Stayed here for 4 nights on a business trip. My room was on ground level, had a huge crack through the wall, flaking paint and musty smelling. The bed was hard and pillows too thin. My towels never got changed, bin in the bathroom never got emptied. The person in the room above was thumping around at 5am every morning. Glad I wasn't on holiday and paying to stay here.

We booked the family room. It was well priced for what we got. Shame the doors don’t line up properly but everyone near us had the same issue. Easy fix maintenance issue but. Beds doubled as a lounge but it meant you can watch tv in bed which a lot of hotels don’t offer TVs in the bed rooms. I presume that’s the difference between a hotel and motel as we don’t normally stay in motels. Nice to cuddle up and watch a movie when the kids go to bed. Didn’t like that the centre door auto locked and only 1 key. Made it hard if the kids wanted to come in during the night. There was a second privacy door but it does not close properly. The second bed in each room came in handy for the younger one. The check in staff were great and knowledgeable. They were down to earth and not “snobbish”. We didn’t feel like we were annoying them asking questions about activities. Loved having the back entrance since the front is so narrow and the same car was parked there during our visit so no way out. It is right on the river and localised so we walked to most things. Shops, breakfast, dinner etc. we only drove to the activities, zoo, museum etc. Take bug spray, we got eaten alive but that’s no fault of the venue, it’s just the location. They were fully booked but we still felt like the only ones there and always had exclusive use of the pool and outdoor area. May be different when it warms up but the kids loved it. If we return to rocky for another short stay we would return to motel 98. The only think I do not recommend is eating at skyring (their restaurant) unless you want to starve. 20kg 9yr old girl ate the $53 steak meal and was still hungry but I’ll leave the full review for their page. Only reason for a 4 not a 5 was the food and no local “what around” booklets like most places have had. Free wifi slow (can’t watch movies on it) but allowed us to google more local attractions. Thanks for a great stay guys.

Room Tip: Parking at rear, use this not main entrance as it is very narrow. Take bug spray, even to dinner.

We stayed one night whilst travelling through.

It was clean and king size bed was comfortable. The room was quiet from traffic noise. The bathroom was quite small and water splashed easily out of the sink.

The Foxtel didn’t work and the owner couldn’t make it so after trying also. No discount or apology given.

We were after dinner and breakfast but prices were exorbitant. $31.50 for basic fish and chips and $7 for cornflakes are just two examples. I could buy a box for that. I definitely feel it was very expensive. We chose to eat elsewhere.

Regarding your comment on the Foxtel problem, we find this upsetting, we responded as soon as we knew of the problem, deeply apologized and because we could not fix the tv that night offered to move you to a different room which you declined saying that it was only overnight and it will be OK. Restaurant 98 prices as higher than the basic fish and chip shop but our fish is a high quality red emperor with a large gourmet salad and beer battered fries served with home made tartare sauce. It is a shame you did not try our meals but assumed that they were basic.

Friendly welcome but the restaurant is a total dissapointment, unless you are willing to scan your phone to order your meal you need to line up like a bistro style and await your meal, I ordered the coconut curry which tasted like a reheated microwave meal with no tofu as advertised.
Lots of floor staff but all about the tapas and cocktails,,,, no dining experience and lack of attentive staff.
will not be back

Thanks Hotel 98 for a pleasant stay.

I stayed for 3 nights in Room 8 which was lower level. The room is clean, tidy and absolutely pleasant. The car Park was packed and tight parking but not a deal breaker. Staff was friendly and polite.

Location is good and close to some shops etc and not that far to other shops if the immediate vicinity isn’t appealing.

The restaurant at Hotel 98 was pleasant but expensive. I’m not sure if it’s the norm but Rockhampton but limited menu and cheapest dish was $31 up to $53 for steak with seafood topping.

Would I stay again, yes, but I would look at other options first before staying here again but really pleasant stay and well run establishment.

Thank you

Thank you for your review. If you had tried our restaurant you would see why the prices are a bit higher than you are used to. Our steak is the best in town. We have had people say our Reef and Beef was to die for, for $53.00 you get a 300g porterhouse steak, a wonderful seafood sweet chilli sauce (with real seafood poached in it) plus 1/2 a morton bay bug and a scollop in the shell. Plus steamed vegetables and chat potato including a dollop of sour cream.

We booked here for a one night stop over in Rockhampton. The room was a reasonable size and clean. Your car can be conveniently parked near your room and is secure at night. We had dinner in the restaurant and the steak was fabulous. Overall, good value for money and suited our needs perfectly.

Good motel located on river foreshore - foreshore landscaped - add boardwalks, facilities, etc - so very pleasurable for a stroll in the afternoon and even after dinner. Motel had good food and wine selection with other good pub venues nearby for food and drinks. If you have your fishing tackle you can even catch
some fish.

Check in very efficient and friendly. Rooms are spacious and clean. Bedding comfortable. King beds. Which you don’t get often in smaller motels. Good location on the river. Microwave in room along with tea coffee making facilities and bowls which was great as we had a toddler with us and needed to heat food . Walking distance to shops and restaurants. They also have their own restaurant. Continental breakfast included, which was great. Can’t fault it.Reasonably priced as well. Will definitely be back.

Used restaurant great meal. Nice room very clean and well serviced. Stayed 4 nights. Close to river and city. Access from river drive or the rear lane. Drinks available at reception and even though I locked myself out on Sunday night staff were very obliging. Seemed to be no problem.

Doesn’t look much from the outside however it is a very quiet and quaint place to stay. Added advantage of restaurant in house means you don’t have to go out to eat.
Comfy bed and spacious room with a beautiful tropical outlook from your private balcony.
Recommended for travellers that don’t want be on the highway for rest and sleep.
