Just spent a delightful long weekend at Athelstane with family from Hobart, Perth and Brisbane. Our second stay with Stanley and Marion (previous stay was in 2008) who welcomed us like old friends and were terrific hosts in every way. Outstanding breakfasts featuring just about every fruit in season, and Stanley put us on to a great cafe for the... More

Only stayed one night here but what a treat! Beautiful traditional Queenslander house, impeccably and traditionally furnished. Lounge and swimming pool available. Excellent bed, linen and towels and modern bathroom. Marion and Stan are friendly and helpful and serve a plentiful, delicious breakfast. (Tea and coffee making facility in bedroom.) Location is in a quiet residential road about 5 mins... More

We found Australia B and B's harder to come by than other countries and often not set up like a real B and B. Stan and Marion have got the formula right. Lovely decorated large room with fabulous bathroom. Lots of little extras here and there. Excellent breakfast. Highly recommended as a place to stay in Rockhampton. We were on... More

We were travelling up north from Brisbane and while visiting Rockhampton stayed in this lovely house. Marion and Stanley do an amazing job and although struggling a bit after the cyclone earlier this year, house and garden still look beautiful, also the interior and service are fabulous. If we could have stayed for more than one night we would have... More

This beautiful and elegantly decorated, authentic Queenslander house immediately became the bench mark against which all other accommodation will be measured. Fresh, white, fluffy towels, scrupulously clean rooms and a myriad of small but considerate touches helped to make this a very special experience. Stan has achieved the perfect balance between warmth and unobtrusiveness, while Marion's professional standard of cooking... More

My wife and I were driving from Cairns to Brisbane in November 2014, and only stayed one night as a stopover. What a mistake! We were SO impressed and wished we had planned to stay longer. Everything about Athelstone was perfect - the décor (my wife's colours!) the gardens, the room, the breakfast, and Stan and Marion were perfect hosts... More

After reading the reviews we had an overnight stay at Athelstane House. What a beautiful home built in 1885 with clean and comfortable ensuited bedrooms and an elegant lounge and dining where you can choose to play games or read. When we arrived late afternoon we sat on the verandah in large comfortable wicker chairs and enjoyed the view, the... More

I stayed one night at Athelstane House and I was impressed. My room was spotlessly clean, extra large with polished timber floor and a large, comfortable bed. My bedroom opened on to the front verandah thus I kept the blinds drawn across the glass double doors for privacy but regretted missing out on natural light coming into my room at... More

Everything about Athelstane is quality, the beautiful and tasteful restoration of the house, the serene surroundings, the convenient location, the wonderful hosts, and a fantastic breakfast. We wouldn't stay anywhere else.

Wonderful weekend stay at Athelstane House. So welcoming and friendly and yet very discrete. We felt we were at home. So much better than a hotel and I loved the veranda chairs. Just right for a sundowner glass of wine. Close enough to walk to Allenstown pub for a great steak.
