Oaks Port Douglas Resort offers a vibrant atmosphere with its lively poolside tunes and enchanting tropical gardens, complemented by clean and well-kept rooms. However, some travelers have voiced concerns about the rooms being outdated and not living up to expectations.
While the location offers a tranquil retreat conveniently accessible by car, guests often feel the resort does not offer good value, pointing to overpriced amenities and lackluster dining options. The service receives mixed feedback, with commendations for the staff's friendliness overshadowed by critiques of management and efficiency.

Booked a 5night stay through luxury escapes.....definitely not luxury. Resort needs a little overhaul, some love & attention.
Reception staff were not very welcoming or helpful and almost made us feel unwelcome. Staff were hardly around the resort and hard to locate.
Pool needs a refill & clean. Grounds need to be maintained after guests use the facilities. Our room wasn’t very clean when we first arrived, and was not serviced for 5days as we booked through luxury escapes. No fresh towels, toiletries, coffee/tea. As a resort I would naturally assume the basics would be provided as a bare minimum no matter who you book through.
We were placed far away from the pool & facilities, we asked to move which didn’t go down well & the resort was pretty much empty. Even offered to pay more.....That idea went into the too hard basket as we couldn’t be bothered with the hassle.
Luxury escapes/Oaks should definitely be reconsidering there package deals as both of their brands are being tarnished with the current offering.
The oaks could have many returning quests if they got there act together and provided resort like service & experience.
On a positive the breakfast buffet is great and the staff & chefs are lovely in this area! Only people at the resort with personality & conversation skills! The bed was super comfy & the apartment is a decent size. Good location to town and a car park.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
We recently purchased a 5 night package through Luxury Escapes that includes 5 nights in a one bedroom apartment, buffet breakfast each day, $50 food/ drink credit, a welcome drink each and a late check out. We paid $799 which we felt was good value.
Our first impressions were excellent and the pool and restaurants are really attractive, modern and well kept.
We were allowed to check in a few hours early which was excellent. The room was quite sparsely furnished and was quite dated looking. There were some repairs/updates needed but it was comfortable and clean. There was no fly screen on the doors and there were a lot of mosquitos, so we couldn’t leave the doors open to get a breeze in the room so we used the aircon and fans most of the time. Also there was no shower cap provided which was odd.
We were advised breakfast could only be ordered off a small menu and we would need to pay for extras such as bacon, hash browns, juice etc. while we completely understood the reason there could not be a buffet we get ripped off like this. We spoke to the front desk manager about this and a few hours later we were advised we could order whatever we liked without paying extra which was awesome and we were happy with this solution.
The resort is quite far from town so you will want a car if you plan on leaving the resort.
The only reason we are rating 4 stars instead of 5 is the attitude we received from the breakfast waiter on the last day of our stay. He was just awful and definitely in the wrong job.

The property was a pig sty. On checking in, the outside of our room was a rubbish dumping ground which remained there for a further 3 days before being removed. Only to be started again the next day. On our second last day we had to move a bag of rubbish to exit our doorway, none of the refuse was from our apartment as we had no room service for 7nights.
The pool area was constantly left in an embarrassing state so much so I felt as though I needed to collect the empty cans and plastic cups, however, the bin was overflowing with nowhere to put anything. The pool staff who were delivering food made no attempt to collect any empty cans boxes or cups on their way back to the kitchen/bar - such poor training.
Tried to contact the front desk to ask a question, after trying for 1/2 hour I physically went down and there was a sign back in five minutes, I waited and when the staff member returned he said please wait and answered the ringing phone leaving me standing there for another 3 minutes.
We asked to use the bbq and were told no there’s some at the beach.
The cooking utensils were disgusting hence the need for the bbq. A saucepan so burnt unwashed and grease covered it was a health hazard not surprising the room also had cockroaches.
This is such a shame as the property, with good management and training, could easily be beautiful. I don’t even believe there was a manager present for the entire time we were there!

Dear KerriannM, I apologise that we disappointed you. I especially note the points you made about the cleaning had have addressed these with the appropriate teams. The standard you refer to is unacceptable and for this I do again apologise. While we fell short of your expectations on this occasion I do thank you for your feedback - we appreciate that you are helping us by taking the time to share this. Regards Michael

I've stayed at this property many times under former owner QT which had admittedly become tired under their ownership. From what I can see, The Oaks have made no improvements other than a replaced pool deck. The removal of most of the character and charm that made you forgive the noticeable lack of care evident with the previous owner has not helped the state of the property. Less staff and poorly managed. Arrived early expecting to hang by the pool until check in at 2pm, but we were not given access to our room until 3.45pm which was the case for a number of other guests. The only food available is through the ONE staff member in the pool bar with no other restaurant options available until 5pm. This one staff member is responsible for servicing the food and drinks requests of ALL hotel guests making for long delays to eat or drink anything. When we finally accessed our ground floor room it smelled dank and mouldy similar to a guinea pig hutch. The carpet in the master bedroom was even damp clearly the result of a prior flood through the sliding door which had never been rectified. When we complained about the overwhelming smell we were told there were no available rooms to relocate to. No emphasis on tidying up grounds after previous guests from towels and drink ware left around the pool all day to housekeeping trolleys and room service trays littering the hallways during our two night stay. The management style leaves a lot to be desired as this was once a lovely property which seems to be trading on a former hey day from years ago. Management needs to lift their game and put some love into this property as it is being run into the ground currently. We eventually came to an agreement with management of refunding one nights accommodation to compensate for the lack of desire to spend anytime in our room. We checked out on Dec.30, 2019 and despite repeated calls to the hotel with assurances given we still have not received our refund.

I would not recommend the resort. It was nice enough but very tired and in need of refurbishment. If you are a Luxury Escape client then you are treated as a substandard client. No room cleaning for the entire time, no new towels or bed linen and if you run out of toilet paper you are required to ask for more at reception and parade this through the entire resort back to your room. Not on!! Being required to use the same towel in a humid environment when they will not dry naturally is unhygienic and disgusting. The restaurant lacks creativity. I could not believe the pool menu was the same as the dinner menu!!! There appears to be much better available in Port Douglas, spend your money elsewhere.

The rooms need an upgrade. Our aircon was rattling in room 4222, the TV remote didn’t work and the swipe to get in is touchy and doesn’t always work.
If you booked with luxury escapes your room doesn’t get serviced at all which was really disappointing as a week with two kids you definitely need it cleaned!
The breakfast buffet needs an upgrade and there are no healthy food options in the restaurant menu which is not sustainable for a week long trip.
Pool bar is lovely and the pool is a highlight of the resort.
I would also like to highlight the poor welcome from the front of house manager when we arrived. Not much personality and when an excited group turns up so happy to start their holiday a warmer welcome would be a nice way to start the trip. I think this is a vital part of the experience as it sets the tone of the resort.
We wouldn’t rebook again

We arrived to welcoming staff, and were directed to our room, a long walk then a flight of steep stairs, as 2 middle aged women this was a challenge to get our heavy luggage up.
Arrived to a room that, we were immediately questioning if it had even been serviced? Bed looked like it had been slept in and room smelt musty. We quickly realised the smell was wet carpet, the carpet was sodden from leaking aircon. Contacted reception, staff were very helpful and moved us to another room. This room had obviously been serviced, with clean linen, and washed floors.
One room was very warm, the aircon in that room was not cooling at all just circulating the warm air, it took 3 days to get fixed so a few uncomfortable warm nights.
The room was tired, outdated and poorly maintained, dirty curtains, frayed dirty carpet, outdoor furniture was worn out, so stretched you literally had you butt resting on the metal frame. The room was not serviced which is fine, but there was no broom, or vacuum to allow you to clean yourself. One sachet of dishwashing liquid, and one garbage bag supplied for a week. The room slept 4 it had 2 knives, 3 plates, no coffee mugs 🤷♀️.
The pool was nice again aged furniture, we asked for beach towels and were told their was none, we were eventually given another (stained) bath towel for pool use.
The dining options are one restaurant expensive with a very limited menu. The pool bar that does burgers etc closed at 5, and you can order click and collect pizzas, so unless you want dinner before 5, you have option of very limited experience restaurant menu or pizza for a week, not appealing!
The resort is a couple of Km out of town and away from dining strip so if you want to eat out and have a few drinks, you are up for a taxi or shuttle bus each night.
All staff have been pleasant and helpful when approached.
We do understand COVID staffing pressures, low season etc etc, but a lot could be done within these constraints to improve the guest experience.

Dear V6570HFchrisw Thank you for this feedback. Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience during your recent stay. I do regret that due to staff shortage in all departments we were unable to meet our usual standards during your recent stay. I agree there are no excuses for some experiences and we could have done better. Our linen supplier continues to face similar challenges and we still struggle for our supplies. No doubt the property does need a facelift too and as such we are planning touch ups to all our rooms and public area. These were unavoidable circumstances and certainly not a set standard here and hope you give us an opportunity to welcome you back to our resort. Regards, Gurpreet Gulati General Manager

The resort is very dated and run down, it appears to have been neglected over time and as a result everything is showing it’s age.
The buffet breakfast was great but it was the same thing every day which we got sick of quickly. The chairs throughout the restaurants are also pretty stained and desperately need a clean.
Our room was comfortable however there was a large amount of mould growing on one wall which looked like it had water damage. Good hot water but it takes a long time to heat up, however we did have all the basics that we needed.
The resort was clearly understaffed during our stay which had quite an impact on our experience as only one employee was working in each area. It took 45mins for a latte at the breakfast buffet, the pool bar took a long time to make drinks and they weren’t able to leave to go collect dirty glass etc around the pool. Our room was also only serviced twice during our 10 day stay so our bins were overflowing, we ran out of essentials like toilet paper, dishwashing liquid, laundry powder, and never got milk tea or coffee replenished or clean sheets and towels. We would have called reception for help however our phone in the room didn’t work.
We also noted that there was no sheer curtains in the rooms, only heavy blockout blinds. This normally wouldn’t be an issue however we were on the ground floor behind the pool so we couldn’t have our curtains open without everyone at the pool being able to see in.
Despite the staff shortages the employees were always fantastic to deal with though, they always had a smile on their face and were helpful and friendly even when you could see they were feeling the pressure. I also got a facial package at the resort day spa and absolutely loved my experience, it was incredibly clean and beautiful and I would highly recommend the spa services.
Overall we were bitterly disappointed with the resort and facilities and wouldn’t stay here again.

5⭐️ Staff are amazing here and happy to cater to your needs! I’d like to shout out Hannah on reception and Cameron and Abner in the pool bar! The music for the pool was brilliant and the service fast and efficient!! Abner created a great cocktail for me when I was being a bit fussy but hit the nail on the head with it!! Overall staff here are amazing!!
5⭐️ Pool area, pool is spacious and a lot of areas to sit and relax you never feel like you’re overcrowded! Bar is easy to access from pool and poolside with a good range or food and drinks for pool service
3⭐️ Room, our room was spacious and had everything we needed great amenities if you want to stay in and cook, our room had a washing machine and dryer which was great to quickly dry the towel after a swim. Overall the room is very outdated and could use major upgrades, the beds aren’t great could do with either a proper king size bed instead of two singles pushed together and the sofa bed in the main room was broken and difficult to sit on.
1⭐️ Restaurant, we only got to use the restaurant once for breakfast which for the price wasn’t special, you had a choice of bacon, eggs, beans, sausages, mushrooms and drinks plus breads. Other that that the main oven broke which meant we could not have dinner in the resort as all they were serving was pizza which was 2/3 nights we were there.
1⭐️ Room service, there’s no cleaning service for any length of stay unless you pay more and request it, there’s no room service unless you demand reception brings you your items such as spare towels or toiletries, for a resort this is not good enough.
Overall staff are great the pool is brilliant the other services need a lot of work to justify the price and make this a better experience and go from a regular hotel to a resort as it claims.
Definitely don’t feel that I got my value for money the service, and lack of amenities and issues that were specific to the time we were there lead you an underwhelming experience. The staff and pool really are what gives this place the 3⭐️

Hi there. Kitchen had a pot & a pan, hot plates but they were a special type that cooks extremely slow. Safety I assume. Good convection oven/microwave. No toaster but no hotels provide them as if the toast burns setting off the fire alarm & hotel is fined. All cutlery & crockery, microwave casseroles. Initially we were provided with washing up small satchel (1wash), a clothe & a towel. But next day they were gone, next day got a tea towel no soap, next day soap no tea towels! Same with bathroom soaps & towels. Oaks is extremely understaffed
We were there 7 nights bed never made up or sheets changed etc. I spoke to cleaners & got different answers 🤷♀️ We still had a good time
Did you mean from Oaks to town, yes, there is a side walk by the road
Yes indeed we do arrange airport transfers
