On our second holiday in Port Douglas we wanted to stay in town rather than outside the town, we didn’t want or need a car so staying in town really suited us. We were 3 couples holidaying together for 10 nights. Macrossan House is right in the centre of town, with the apartments back off the street so there is no street noise. The location is perfect, a couple of minutes walk to Coles and the bottle shop and no more than 10 minutes walk to any other part of town for restaurants, coffee shops and other retailers.
The apartments were lovely, good kitchen with fridge, microwave and hotplate and all the cutlery/crockery/glassware and utensils that we needed. There is a lounge/dining area with a large TV (very comfortable) and all our rooms had a balcony (I believe all rooms have balconies). The bedroom was large (we had a kingsize bed) and the bathroom was large also with a great vanity unit with a huge amount of storage. There was plenty of closet space so that we could unpack once and be very comfortable. The bedroom has air conditioning with a ceiling fan but the lounge/dining only has a fan. However, the air conditioning unit in the bedroom was big enough to keep the entire apartment cool.
The pool area was lovely and very quiet and the spa at the end of the pool was great. There is also a fully equipped BBQ in the pool area but we didn’t use the BBQ.
The apartment and the entire complex is spotlessly clean. We didn’t have a car but there is parking available downstairs. The free wifi worked very well.
Our hosts, Jo & Gary were amazing and really made a huge difference to our stay. They were so helpful as they know the area very well. They helped us to book a couple of tours and recommended places to eat. We really appreciated their help and we look forward to our next trip to Port Douglas and Macrossan House.

My husband and I are doing a trip around northern Queensland. We were due to spend a couple of nights in Cairns and a couple of nights in port Douglas. On the advice of friends we decided to come straight to PD and booked 3 days. We loved PD so much that we stayed for 6 and were very sad to leave. My new favourite place in Australia!
We stayed at Macrossan House Apartments and what a brilliant decision that was. No and Gary, the owners, were so welcoming and accommodating. They couldn’t do enough for us to ensure that we had the best stay.
The apartment was large, very nicely decorated/furnished, well equipped, spotlessly clean, quiet and the very large bed was soooo comfortable.
The pool area was really nice with a bbq and there was also a laundry room.
I will be staying here on our next visit to PD. I would suggest that anyone who wants to stay at Macrossan House should contact jo and gary direct for best rate which is what we did

We are almost locals (live in Cairns) and enjoy a couple of getaway nights in Port Douglas each year. This was our first stay at Macrossan House and we will definitely be back. Jo and Gary were delightful hosts and were very accommodating and hospitable. We appreciated the early check-in and the offer of a late checkout. Our unit was modern, spacious, very clean, and had everything we needed. The icing on the cake was the central location - literally right in the middle of the Main Street and yet set back and totally quiet and peaceful! While there are many places that can claim to be within walking distance to everything in Port, this place takes this to a new level! My wife and I loved our stay.

When planning a getaway and the following requirements are on your list, then Macrossan House Boutique Apartments is a must: quiet, heated pool, great location, central and convenient with easy access to everything, spacious rooms that are spotlessly clean, with fully equipped kitchen ( these are serviced apartments) modern, have a balcony, ceiling fans, air conditioning or both, aesthetically appealing, affordable and very comfortable, laundry, parking, then look no further Macrossan House is the ONE!
On site managers, since 2019, Jo & Gary and Tilly ( new resident dog) are very professional, accomodating, hospitable, as well as very personable, delightful hosts and persons who are up for a chat, always smiling and happy to help with anything and everything big or small. Nothing is difficult for Jo & Gary and both are very knowledgeable and informative with recommendations for tours and activities and accordingly book tours as requested( on site tour desk)
The first time I visited Port Douglas was in 2011 and stayed at Macrossan House, since then it has become an annual occurrence. Aside from one year whereby due to late decision / short notice, I had to seek alternative accomodation which ended up being a highly rated location also situated on Macrossan Street. It never came remotely close to the quality and standard of Macrossan House which is best summed up as a hidden gem. Do yourself a favour and check it out, you won’t be disappointed.

My wife and I stayed here for one week and found a real little gem, all Apartments and one bedroom with a lounge which is ideal for couples who want a getaway.
It is located right in the Macrossan St which makes it easy to move around but is off the the street enough for you to have peace and quiet from the happening street area.
The on-site Managers , Gary and Jo where very accommodating, we also spoke to another 3 couples whilst around the pool area who said they had been staying on Macrossan St over 5 years in different Apartments and found Macrossan House to be the best kept one.

This place was the perfect end to our trip to FNQ. Jo and Gary were so accommodating when we turned up early. They got us into an apartment in record time. The apartment was clean and tastefully decorated. The bed was particularly comfy and the aircon was quiet and efficient.
The location is superb just off the main street of Port Douglas but you never hear a sound.
We will definitely stay again.

Fantastic Accommodation! Step out and you are in the centre of Port Douglas amongst all the restaurants, cafes and shops. The owners were more than helpful, easy going and assisted us with bookings for activities. The unit was spacious, bright, only a few footsteps from the pool and had a lovely view onto the pool of the neighbouring facility. It was clean and furnished with modern furniture. The kitchenette was very practical and had everything we needed. As the block is set back from the hustle and bustle of Macrossan Street it’s very quiet. We absolutely loved our stay & felt extremely comfortable. We can highly recommend this hidden gem 😊!

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and throughly enjoyed our stay! The rooms were all you could ask for clean, spacious, fully equipped and modern. The location is also great with the apartments being in the centre of Port Douglas meaning everything was only a few minutes walk away. Furthermore, the owners were lovely! They welcomed us to the hotel and provided us with advise on places to visit which was really helpful! When I come back to Port Douglas I won’t hesitate to rebook a stay here again :). Thank you for making our first visit to Port Douglas so enjoyable!

Our first visit to Port Douglas to stay and we lucked it in booking into Macrossan House Apartments. Gary and Jo are the best hosts who did all our bookings for various trips including transfers from and to Cairns. Their recommendations on the Mossman Gorge tour were spot on. The apartments are clean and quiet and yet only metres from the restaurants, shops and pubs. We will definitely be back and can only highly recommend this place.

Modern & stylish, yet functional design. One of the best bathroom rooms. Large vanity with full width drawer which fitted 3 toiletry bags with easy access & use. Great usable kitchen and good size balcony.

We can arrange your airport transfers 24/7 at Au$41.00 each way per person. You may also like to run your tours past us as well. We feel so bad for guests whom book tours from over seas and get ripped of and are put on tours with companies that are completely unsuitable for guests but that is where the agent gets the best commissions.
