The Pullman Port Douglas Sea Temple Resort & Spa has received mixed feedback, with many guests admiring the spaciousness and equipment of the rooms, but some describing them as basic and in need of updates. The pristine pool area often earns praise for its cleanliness, though housekeeping services sometimes fall short. While the staff's attentiveness is frequently lauded, the value proposition is questioned by guests who find dining options overpriced and amenities underwhelming. Nonetheless, the special pool area, gardens, and villas are highlights for visitors seeking a tranquil atmosphere.

Belinda E wrote a review Oct 2020

Overall we loved the resort. We stayed for 9 days in Oct 2020 and would have gladly stayed longer.

The pool is superb. That was predominantly why we booked the resort and it didn't disappoint. We had a 2 bedroom swim out room which exceeded our expectations, was very spacious and well appointed. We had a washing machine, dryer, spa bath and full cooking facilities. The kitchen facilities were appreciated as we cooked in the apartment most nights.

We travelled with two kids who loved having their own space and own bathroom. It was REALLY quiet when we stayed due to COVID. I'm not sure if I would have loved the swim out room quite as much during peak season as there are literally people swimming up the steps of your accommodation. That said, if privacy isn't a huge issue for you the swim out room is amazing.

The location is right on Four Mile Beach and we often started our day with a walk on the beach. Please note that the property is about a 10 minute drive to the restaurants, shops etc of Port Douglas though. There is a shuttle that runs but there is a cost of $5 per person each way and that quickly adds up for a family. You can discuss with shuttle operators if you are there for a longer stay to work out a deal but this property is really best suited to people with private transport at their disposal.

The food at the on site restaurant is quite nice but note that it is a tapas menu so the serving sizes are small if you are comparing menu costs.

We have just had a most enjoyable week despite some very heavy rain at this hotel.
The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. Nothing is a problem and they are always on hand to help.
The hotel is situated a bit of a way out of the centre of Port Douglas but a local shuttle bus runs regularly from outside the hotel.
There is a free phone at reception to call a shuttle if you need one.
They have a flat rate of 11dollars each return.
You can call them once you are ready to return or just wait at a drop off point.
The hotel has a fantastic swimming pool. The surrounding area is very well maintained. The pool bar is open from about 1pm most days. You can order food at lunchtime to be brought to tables at the bar.
Lots of sun beds available around the pool area.
Wet towels can be exchanged next to the bar.
There are fridges in the rooms and tea and coffee.
Some rooms have self catering facilities.
A great hotel for children.
A walk along the beach “Four Mile Beach” into Port Douglas is worth doing but do take a bottle of water and watch the tides.

Writing a review during COVID safe times may not be entirely fair so I’ll stick to the facts. Firstly, The Pullman is not near the main part of town, in fact it’s 6-8 min drive away. Walking anywhere was not an option. Secondly, the resort itself was probably once beautiful and well maintained but this was sadly a thing of the past. It may be due to limited staff, and the gardens were still very pretty, but full of weeds and unfinished maintenance in areas. The bottom of the pool has large rust marks and the tiki torches (love these) either weren’t working properly or not at all. The rooftop spas are quite old and half the jets weren’t working. The room smelled very musty and the furniture and floor tiles stained. The spiral staircase felt like it would collapse with every step and was inadequately lit. There was no mini bar or room service due to COVID and they wouldn’t even offer to help with bags or bring ice to the room. Meaning guests are expected to all dine together in the only restaurant. (Not sure how COVID safe that is). We bought food from the grocery store in town but most of this had to be thrown away after ants got into the pantry items and the fridge didn’t work properly. The oven temperature was also totally wrong. Breakfast at the restaurant was included with a very small menu to select from. I was disappointed to be charged for coffee separately as coffee apparently is not included in breakfast. The Spa Vie was exceptional and the therapists were amazing!! Overall, we had a nice, very quiet holiday. Until the second last day, when a family with 4 young kids (under 8yrs) were put in the room below us. The resort was nowhere near full and we thought this was an extremely inconsiderate move, and almost ruined our trip.
I would definitely consider The Pullman to be above average at 3 1/2 stars but unfortunately it missed out on being ‘very good’.

This is advertised as “luxury accommodation “, this is not luxury, maybe some of the other apartments are, ours was not. The room is missing some basic requirements to be called luxury, for a start there is no sink or microwave. The vertical blinds are very dirty and the outdoor furniture needs replacing, the cushions look daggy. I didn’t like the set out of the room as I was expecting “one bedroom” but there is no bedroom it is all in one. The quilt was also not pristine, and I’m glad we had our own pillows. There is no guest laundry so you need to go to the local laundromat which cost $10 per load. There were dirty laundry bags hanging around outside other rooms for several days I hate to think of the state of that linen which is getting recycled. While the pool is lovely everything is starting to look like it needs a bit of maintenance. Lucky we had our own car as it is a hike into town which I understand costs $12 return on a shuttle. I would not stay here again, in fact we left 2days early as I had had enough.

The property is lush, tropical and well maintained, if you are wanting a tropical relaxed holiday then this is a nice location.

Service – On check in the reception team were rushed, didn’t explain much about the property except where the villa was. We found the reception service hit and miss. Having had a couple issues with the villa, Front gate broken, and consistent Internet connection issues, sometimes the requests were handled immediately and on a certain day it took 7 calls to reception to get the internet looked at (over a 5-hour period). Generally, wouldn’t be an issue, except though phone reception was already bad and intermittent. Restaurant staff were awesome and the service top notch.

Cleanliness – Overall the property is amazing. Though on arrival to our Villa, we had to wash all the crockery and glass wear as it was put away dirty from previous guests. The Villas are well appointed.

Loyalty – From a Loyalty recognition perspective, definitely the worst experience I have had in 2019 at any Accor hotel as a platinum member, there is no recognition from this hotel or thank you for the loyalty to the brand, definitely not the experience I have had from the Pullman brand when staying. I had to even ask if I was entitled to my platinum benefits one morning at breakfast as was going to be charged, thankfully the restaurant staff had the foresight to go to reception and get it acknowledged on my account for the stay.

Recognition of loyalty goes a long way, even a simple “Thank you for your loyalty” on check in (which seems standard at all Accor hotels, except here), goes a long way.

Incredible experience both leading up to, and during our recent stay at the Sea Temple Resort. We were upgraded to a spacious 2 bedroom each with ensuite and direct access to the lagoon from private backyard with sofa lounge chairs and private deck chairs. We were greeted by Gina at check in and she was so lovely and attentive which sets an impressive impression of the resort from the start and the resort landscaping and facilities are simply stunning.

Parking has never been a problem. There were many visitor car spots available including private individual under cover car park allocated for each unit.

Our room (180) was huge and beautiful however it smelled mouldy, musty throughout. As we were only staying for a night, we didn’t make a fuss about the issue.

Every staff at the restaurant were super friendly and the morning a-lar-carte breakfast was limited but adequate. Thanks to my Accor Plus status all meals at the resort are discounted 50% however given the quality and quantity I would not pay full price for the meal.

If I have to be critical about the resort, besides the musty smell of our room, the music they played at Aluco restaurant are appalling! We spoke to the staff and even they agreed how they couldn’t stand the choice of music from the 80’s which were played throughout our stay from our evening drinks, breakfast and lunch at the resort. Could I suggest the management should take feedback not only from the guests, but their own staff as to the selection of music which forms a critical role to the overall dining experience. We had to eat in a hurry and couldn’t wait to get out of the place and this was how bad the situation.

If you were to book a room I shall suggest a room with direct access to the lagoon as it was certainly one of many highlights

My partner and I spent 5 nights in a 1 Bedroom Penthouse Apartment and it was amazing. It had a lovely balcony with a spiral staircase that lead up to the rooftop where there was a BBQ area and spa...awesome yeah!
A fully equipped kitchen (not that we cooked haha) with a dining table and lounge area which was nice to relax of an evening.
The king bed was super comfy, air con and ceiling fans in both the bedroom and living area.
There was even a washing machine and dryer.
Unfortunately due to covid there was no buffet breakfast but we had a la carte which was nice and the staff were excellent.
The pool, I'm gonna put it out there.. was the best I've seen in all my travels. It's huge, no swim up bar but a pool bar and plenty of lounges around. Plenty of secluded little spots to get away from everyone and its open till 10pm which is great.
I loved this property and certainly recommend it for families, couples and friends.
The only thing ppl should know is that it is about a 5-10 min drive to the main street however I believe the pullman has a shuttle available for a small fee.

With our travel we have stayed in a number of Pullman Hotels and their rooms have always been of a high standard, Port Douglas is no exception. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a 2 bedroom apartment with the outdoor spa. We were very pleased with this. It would be great if both bathrooms were opened to us as the en-suite was very small especially for a person with broad shoulders.
The restaurant had a limited menu and there were issues one morning with serving breakfast where the food took nearly 2 hours to receive. We appreciate that there may have been a problem somewhere but please be open with your patrons about wait time so we can make a decision about what we’d like to do.
The pool side bar is stated to open at 11am on the website but it would open somewhere between 12.15 and 12.45pm and service was slow due to 1 person working behind the bar. This was a little frustrating. The only other problem was the day spa was closed for the dates we were there.
Again the rooms were beautiful and we did enjoy our visit, just some tweaks to the services and this place would definitely be 4 star.

Dear TrudyN650, Thank you for taking the time to provide me with your feedback - it is valued and appreciated. Our operational hours at the selected outlets have been updated as a result. We have been impacted by the effects of Covid-19 where their is a national shortage of hospitality workers currently given our region is heavily reliant on the backpacker workforce. Gorgeous, very large pool, with direct room access, great for families with kids. Room had Fischer-Paykiel washer and dryer. Bosch dishwasher and cooktop, overlooked pool.
Had to use dining room table to unpack our two suitcases.
Disappointed: Food dry, tasteless, overcooked at buffet one evening. Sliders had some mystery meat, terrible. Told only ice cream available for dessert. Asked for chocolate scoop for my wife, mint for myself. Both were dumped into same paper cup. Only wooden spoons available!
Also ate at their only restaurant- Aluco. Food was limited, tasteless, very expensive.
Fitness center consisted of two separate rooms Fit and Cardio, each the size of a walk in closet. With only 3 people in each, they would be crowded. MInimal, insufficient equipment, and 20 lb. dumbbells only. This is a joke, an after thought not expected from a first class resort.
Wi Fi - Poor,slow speed,kept getting dropped even at 3 a.m.
Does this sound like a place one would like to stay at?

We chose the rooftop Jacuzzi apartment, and this was an excellent choice. It gave us the option to use the Lagoon pool, whilst also being able to retreat to our own private haven and use the Jacuzzi in the evening (which was good on a cold or wet day / or in the evening).

Whilst the hotel is still adjusting to the new service with Covid, we did notice on one occasion that a poor girl was working breakfast on her own, and maybe just something to note, that as numbers do increase, it would be good to have the staff match.

We have to say a very big thank you to Rejina who was the epitome of exceptional customer service, not only whilst we stayed but also prior to us booking, helping us pick the right room and giving us tips for our stay. She really did make our stay even better.

one more thing to note, the apartments are not fully equipped with kitchen utensils / cooking devices, so something to be aware of if you plan to cook. We opted to go out.

Also, use excellence Shuttles, it is essentially a taxi service for a very small price - you can get a day pass with unlimited pick ups and drop offs.
