Our villa is lovely. All we need and very clean and fresh. An oven would be amazing instead of a complicated air fryer/microwave thing with no instructions but it’s fine. Comfortable beds and sofa. Modern furnishings. More than we expected. The pool is fabulous and plenty of pool lounges. The disappointing part is the hours the restaurant and bar run. It’s actually ridiculous and no BYO allowed at the pool so when shut you go dry. They have QR codes everywhere to order but they don’t work. Always says closed even when the kitchen is open. The staff are wonderful but management need to extend opening hours. Even closed on a Friday night for dinner and drinks!! Some days the bar shuts at 3pm. Our kids were really disappointed the Xbox room was “unavailable” after receiving a welcome note with information on it. Not hard to reprint one and exclude things that aren’t available to avoid disappointment.

We had a great 10 day stay at the Reef Villas in Port Douglas.
Our apartment was really comfortable and clean. From my understanding, a lot of them are decorated differently as they are privately owned but we were very happy with our apartment and could not fault it!
Beds were comfy, air con worked well and it was set up with everything we needed.
The pool is fantastic! We’ve stayed in Port Douglas a few times at different places and it’s definitely one of the better pools in town. The water is the perfect temp, it has shallow bits for kids but also deeper areas for swimming too.
The gardens around the pool are beautiful and tropical which also gives the shade needed on those warm days.
There aren’t heaps of deck chairs, but when we were there it was never full so it didn’t seem to be an issue.
The resort is out of town, we hired a car which made travelling in and out nice and easy, however there are plenty of shuttle buses that come through if you need.
The restaurant is good as well, although it wasn’t always clear from the pool area on the opening hours (there is a sign on the front door though). You can order through the app from the pool area and they will bring your drinks and food straight to you.
We had a great time here and would definitely stay again!

We stayed as a family over the Christmas/ new year break. As per previous reviews, the resort did seem quite. There were a lot of permanent residents which sometimes made you feel like you were intruding in their privacy.

Having said that, I would most likely return. We were given a recently refurbished villa. It was clean enough (with a few exceptions, the container that housed the cutlery was off putting - i just washed the cutlery and kept it out). It was ideal accomodation for a young family. We had a washing machine, dryer, two toilets & showers. But you do need to supply your own washing powder and toilet paper (once you run out). Kids loved the pools. There were shallow and deep areas, suitable for all ages. Large enough pools. Bbq area was clean, with tables so you can eat outside and a small playground suited to younger kids.

This villa is an ideal option if you want the option to self cater and like the added extras of having a laundry. You will need to take your own beach towels or you can hire them for $2 each for your stay. Apparently there was a shuttle bus, which we never used, but the main street is not within walking distance. I assume a hire car is probably one of the better options.

There is a cafe behind the resort St. Crispin, stunning views, great food, beautiful staff - though it seems a tad expensive to me. But you will not struggle to find beautiful and delicious restaurants in Port Douglas. Try and book if you can. We struggled to eat at some places because we did not book.

This was a very disappointing experience for my family. Yes the room was outdated in areas but this should not be advertised as a resort as no bar or restaurant open and no BYO in pool area allowed. Also advertised xbox room but this was locked up and not is use. Pool was advertised heated but water was cold and pool and grounds was extremely run down. The gym door was broken and hanging off hinges. A lot of units are permanent residents and a few older residents came out and told other families in the pool during the day off for screaming and playing loud. An airbnb would of been better. This was a very disappointing part of our holiday. We ended up going to another resort that allowed guests and used the pool and purchased food and drinks.

Response from Reef Resort, Owner at Reef Resort Villas Port Douglas
Responded 6 Aug 2023
Dear Melindaa874 Thank you for providing your feedback. With regard to the bar we are open 7 days a week. For the restaurant during peak times we have been open for dinner 5 nights a week and lunch was available 6 days a week. The pool area is licensed hence no BYO. The xBox room is open daily when the reception building is open. The door is not locked which I am sure the reception staff would have advised you. The pool is in fact temperature controlled and is around 28 - 29 degrees. There is a second pool within the resort that is not heated. Reef Resort Villas.

This was a lovely little place.
Check in was good, staff were friendly and had a ready smile.
The unit was something you could live in full time, clean, all the standards you need.
Beds were comfy, air con worked well.
The private parking spot in our particular unit was a little tricky to get into, but most others looked easy enough.
We didn't really use the pool, restaurant or other amenities on site as we were only staying for one night, so can't comment on them, but the pool area itself looked quite nice on quick inspection.

It is a little bit out of "town", so don't expect to walk out the front and immediately be in the middle of Port Douglas. Would require a car or taxi/uber to get in and out (only 5-10 min drive).

After staying here over New Years in one apartment whilst friends of ours stayed next door to us, I must say we were all very disappointed. (We did not know that rooms were individually owned so some are great and some like ours are shocking. My partner and friend of ours spoke to the manager in charge about all the issues we did have and walked him through one of our rooms as kids were asleep in the apartment next door to us. He himself stated that you could clearly see the bed was broken, there was Mold everywhere including all the fans which was disgusting. We had yellow stains on our doonas and pillow cases which was off putting, furniture falling apart, coffee stains and drink stains right throughout the drawers of the kitchen (god only knows when they were last cleaned, and the list goes on and on. The manager did not offer us a clean after showing him through to say the least, even once taking the pillow cases to exchange them. I have numerous pics for all of this. The manager Had to leave as he was going away and we were later advised from a co worker that we had a $150 credit to use at the resort or bar. In which there’s only 4-5 types of pizza to choose from, one salad and nuggets and chips. (How is this called a restaraunt) After spending over 5k on rooms, with beds we couldn’t even use and rooms that were disgusting surely this was offensive. I emailed the manager, and have called for him numerous times and of course there has been no response or reply. Will never be back. Spend your money elsewhere.

Positive: POOL Pool, Pool. Has to be about the Pool. Kids had a great time. Nice clean two bedroom, two bathroom Villa Unit with celling fans and AC . Nice BBQ area and small gym. Location is ok but not within walking distance to CBD of Port Douglas. Can rent from an owner directly or from the hotel, sometimes owners can undercut the hotel.

Negative: Room needs some small maintenance, light need too be changed and locks on internal doors need to be replaced. Main negative is reception and bar area that closes early during the so called quiet "wet" session. Can't order a drink after 4.00 pm,

Overall the kids loved this place, the Pool did the job and covered up any issues or small problems that where soon forgotten.

I have stayed at this property before but never again.
Check in was after 3pm but by 4pm there was no one at reception. so you have to deal with afterhours & the handyman.

We had 5 nights booked in a 3 bedroom coral villa and checked in & out within 45 minutes of arriving.

Why?

After walking in to the villa it was stinking hot and smelt damp & mouldy, after 30 minutes not 1 of the rooms had cooled down with all air conditioners turned on.

The first thing noticed was the broken tap hanging out of the sink in the kitchen, then the mini ants all over the bench.

There was paint missing off the walls, cracked floor tiles & uncomfortable furniture.

The request of 1 king bed & 2 singles was not honoured, we had a double bed & 4 singles. only 1 bedside table in each room.

After calling the day before to see if our request for a villa near the pool area had been successful we were told yes we will be close, well we were no where near it, however we could sit on our back patio and watch the cars drive down the main road.

To make it worse they refused to allow us a full refund and still kept the payment for 1 night, even though i spoke to someone 15 minutes after arriving and expressed my disgust and advised we will not be staying at this 'resort' which it is not.

Do not be fooled by the lovely photos on the website, this villa needs a full refurbishment.

There are so many other beautiful places to stay at the same price

We stayed in a villa close to the pool and restaurant and one block back from the road (no. 18). Very quiet and peaceful at night. High ceilings and good air con and the rooms were clean and well equipped. The pools and surroundings are really nice and the water temperature is just right. Nice BBQ area near the second pool as well which you need a security code to access. The resort is about a 5 minute drive into town but there are plenty of shuttles buses available

Honestly please do not waste your money at this place. It was outrageously expensive for the quality . The reception lady was rude and snarky . We saved for months as a family to come away and this place was terrible .

People live permanently at this place and as a result there is other peoples belongings lying around outside places . broken toys , old bbqs , kids scooters etc . When we pulled up for the first time 4 little kids ( maybe 7 or 8 ) with no parents anywhere to be seen were outside our door asking for food ?
The room was filthy , doors rusty and dusty .. The upstairs tv didnt work. The carparks barley fit a car in them without denting the doors when you open them...

Absoluetly gutted we wasted our money here.

They are all a bit different Bridget... Im pretty sure they are privately owned, and “rented” to the public through the resort... therefore furniture, utensils etc in each villa differ. In saying that, we were happy with the condition of our villa (we travelled late Jan), everything worked as it should and staff were helpful! Hope this helps...

Hi. Not sure when it changed over to Rydges, but it was good late last year. We didn't have a lot to do with the management team as the homes are self catering unless you go to the restaurant. The grounds, pools and roads were all well maintained and young kids have a great time in the pools. Enjoy...
