Detailed Reviews
From the very beginning of our enquiry right through to checking out, Janine is friendly, helpful and incredibly attentive.
There is a small lobby as the meeting point with Janine otherwise very quick to respond on the mobile. We loved the service and local knowledge provided.
The rooms are clean and modern with the ensuite amenities required. There is an iPad with Internet access and a large flat screen for all your tv viewing. The beds are incredible comfortable and the pillows are like clouds, I woke up every morning without any neck pain. There are fans and an air conditioner in the room meaning we were always in a cool room. You have a bar fridge, kettle and iron.
The plus about being centrally located on the Main Street is that you are within walking distance of the marina, four mile beach and all the stores and restaurants. While we had a car rental, we did not use it for exploring port Douglas. Situated just above the ANZ branch meant we always had access to an ATM which was convenient.
The only downside was something that cannot be controlled which are the noisy fruit bats that come out at night which can be loud.
We loved the hospitality and the promptness of the service so thank you to Janine!
As a bonus they donate 10% of your accommodation rate to charity which you can nominate from the four. Love it.

I love this little boutique hotel. I have read the previous complaints about how odd it is not having a reception, but I totally disagree. Exactly as told the day before I arrived, I received a text with a code to get access to a lock box with my room key. The room is excellently appointed, king bed, mini fridge, Nespresso coffee machine, iPad, and Apple TV. The bath was small but more than sufficient. If ever I needed anything or had a question I would text the owner (?)/manager Amanda and she would promptly reply. You also have the option to call. The location in town is excellent and there is one of the town shuttle bus stops right next door. It just a quick 5-10 min walk to the beach - beautiful by the way. I totally recommend this place and would stay here again. It is an excellent value.

Great location if you don't mind a bit of noise which emanates from the pub, Rattle and Hum, right next door. For the money we paid it was excellent value, situated in the middle of the main street. An unexpected little bonus of having Apple TV, so could download and play movies from iTunes on the big screen TV. It has a self-service check-in arrangement.

This is a low key motel, overpriced and oversold, misleading marketing and if you think you are saving, think again.
The rooms are undersized, BYO shampoo because the cheap refill samples won't last more than one day and there is no service unless you stay over a week.
The aircon is old , ants in the bathroom, and overall a suffocating cell experience. You will have to stay out of the room all day on activities as they don't have a pool or a boq area .
For $10 bucks more you get a decent resort up the road.
I suspect the raving reviews are from family and friends of the owners. I regret booking this place and wouldn't even recommend it to backpackers .

Hi I echo the comments from Lassie1970's "small but clean and tidy" review, and the one after that by Dan H “Absolutely fantastic!!!!” that highly recommends Gratitudes.
I stayed here for eight nights in Sep 2014 with my ten year old son. It is indeed a lovely and clean place to stay that is ideal for cost-conscious guests. [Btw, I don't think their policy is to allow very young children - I think my son was just old enough - please check before booking in with a child].
The owners are kind and welcoming. I asked for a standard room with a King bed and it took up a lot of the space in the room - in hindsight, due to the length of our stay I should have paid extra and got the King Suite (I came down with a cold on two of the days so we did end up being in the room a bit more than I expected; plus that one has seating for two and a microwave). Our room was small and the bathroom was small but I was over that after about two minutes. Everything was really clean and inviting and the layout of the room was optimal for the space. We were in room #2 (no balcony) and it was quiet.
I booked Gratitudes because I expected to be out and about during most of our days and I wanted to be somewhere central where everything was an easy walk / bike ride away [I once holidayed in Port Douglas with a friend and her daughter when our kids were just under three years old and we hired a private villa that was in a 'blah' location - doing almost anything required us to drive somewhere. As this time I was coming in the busy school holiday period, the last thing I wanted was to be cruising up and down Macrossan Street looking for parking every day / every second day (too much like my city life back home!)].
The location of Gratitudes is brilliant and I didn't have a problem finding it (though I can see why some would, especially if it was a very dark night). The off-street parking is great. There are three bikes available for adult guests to use for free (I think it works on a 'first-in-best-dressed' basis, so make sure to ask for this in advance if you want to make use of this) - this is a really thoughtful and practical inclusion. I had to hire a bike for my son as he wasn't tall enough to use one of the Gratitudes bikes - Janine put us on to a great hire place. Janine helped us book a tour for snorkelling on the outer reef with a great local operator (Calypso - her recommendation and a very good one). Janine and Amanda couldn't do enough for us - they are very generous with their time and local knowledge. They put a lot of thought into what they provide at Gratitudes and how they provide it. I am not an apple person at all, but they said they would order anything I wanted on iTunes for me and I could reimburse them (I didn't bother though). The TV is a really good size and the free use of the ipad and free wifi was really great. The Nespresso machine is a life saver - I have a good coffee machine at home, so it was really great to be able to have a decent coffee whenever I wanted. We found pods for hot chocolate at Coles (a three minute walk away) so my son had a lovely hot chocolate every morning!
I don't understand some of the reviews where people want / expect their room to be serviced every day - it is an enormous waste of resources - I bet they don't do anything like that at home! I spent ten years of my life doing a lot of work travel, mainly international, for a company that had most of the world's best hotels on its approved hotel list, and in my opinion, the best hotels didn't change sheets and towels every day like unthinking morons unless you were a complete diva and insisted on it! The best ones said something like "we care for our environment so we service your room completely every 3rd/4th day unless you let us know your room needs more frequent servicing; please let us know your expectations and requirements and we will do our best to meet them". The room at Gratitudes was completely (I mean completely) serviced half way through our stay and I think that was exactly right - everything felt crisper than at home without it being over the top. Janine and Amanda told me if I ever needed anything changed any earlier to just let them know (I think this might've been because I was with my son and they know kids can be messy without meaning to be, but I didn't find it necessary). If you catch them during the day you can get any extra supplies you need, problems solved on the spot, and if you miss them they leave a form for you where you can request extra body wash / toilet paper / whatever and they deliver it to your room the next day. They are a phone call away no matter what.
Having said that and being a fan of Gratitudes... Don't come here if you have mobility problems or a lot of heavy luggage that you don't want to carry up a flight of stairs (it is on the first floor and there is no lift). Don't come here if you think you are going to get a $400 - $500 place at Gratitudes' prices (you're not going to). Don't come here if you want to spend your days sunning yourself by Gratitudes' pool (there isn't one, but... see the comments in the P.S. below). Don't come here if you can't bear hearing a bit of noise now and then (it is right in the heart of Macrossan Street, next to a backpackers hostel and a bar; mind you, I was there at a busy time and up late reading gripping novels and everything was pretty quiet. Still, there are bound to be times when you might hear undesirable (and unfortunately still typical) "main street of Australian town at night, near pub" noises - that is life). I found I hardly ever heard my fellow guests but if there was a noisy person in the hallway you would hear a bit of it - again, that is life.
If in doubt, call / email Janine and Amanda and discuss your requirements / concerns before you book - they are the kind of people who will tell you if Gratitudes will deliver what you are looking for; I very much doubt they would give you any 'spin', as you can tell they really want happy, contented guests. They can't wave a magic wand and make the rooms bigger but all the things they have done, and the prices they charge, are a great choice for many (not all) people.
Thank you again for a great stay Janine and Amanda!
P.S. If you want a day at the pool rather than at the beach, Janine and Amanda recommend going to the Rendezvous Reef Resort - another great piece of advice. It is about ten minutes' drive away back towards the main highway and the pool area is lovely. It has also has a poolside restaurant and bar that were very reasonably priced for the quality when I visited. My son loved going there. We would have ridden our bikes there except the weather was a bit too hot for us for that.

My partner and looked at several options across Port Douglas. We were amazed with our stay. Especially the extras such as cappuccino machines, Apple TV etc etc. The owners are amazing, friendly people. Extremely helpful and make you feel welcome and at home.
The room was ideal for us and what we were looking for. Great location, close to the best restaurants, shops and pubs. They were available 24/7 for any assistance needed. Good value for money and had a great time!!!
Thanks guys

Excellent located in the middle of Port Douglas town. What we didn't expect, that the room is facilitated with an ipad to use, as well as coffee machine (nespresso). That was really a bonus. That means we have free internet on the ipad, and there's stereo connected to it too which we can play, and TV / Movie controlled by the ipad.

Recently stayed for three nights in this venue in Port Douglas. Nice room with a modern clean finish, excellent size room and best of all a coffee machine. Lovely welcome pack of wine and chocolates (we booked a package). Easy stroll to a range of eateries. Was initially worried about location but turned out to be incredibly quiet. Excellent hosts. Will stay again.

What did you like?
We stayed in a very nice, clean king bedroom with a great colour scheme. There is a small en-suite and comfy bed. A map of Port Douglas at reception. Free internet on provided ipad. Great customer service - reception is a phone, I called them twice and we waited 10mins. Lady came and apologised and gave us our keys, then the owner came and knocked on the door and apologised profusely with a bottle. Brilliant location. Would definitely stay again.
What didn't you like?
Didn't like crawling on the floor to find the power point under the cupboard, microwave and tv to turn the fairy lights on or plug the toaster in. (btw, there are other power points on the other side of the room)
There were no instructions to use the coffee machine (we're not familiar with these things).
No towel rails - just a small double hook.
All simple things I'm sure they will fix and shouldn't affect others stay.

2 weeks getaway from 1-15 December 2014. Perfect location in the main street of Port Doublas, central to 4 Mile Beach and surrounding attractions. Push bikes are available to explore. The room was clean, tidy and the decor beautiful with a "French" inspired black and white theme. iPads and iTV available, mini bar, plenty of storage and hanging space. Timber flooring and white curtains such a wonderful combination. I felt really at home in my room and the service provided by the owners Amanda and Janine was great and very friendly. Such a pleasure to deal with them. They are real hospitality experts and treat their guests as if they were inviting you into their home. I would definitely be staying there again and can highly recommend this accommodation.
