We recently stayed at The Mandalay Luxury Apartments in unit 31. This unit is a 3-bedroom Ground Floor Executive Apartment which we requested as we were traveling with our elderly parents. The apartment was large and beautifully decorated with everything we needed for a great stay it also had 3 bathrooms which we weren't expecting so that was a great surprise for us as this meant we all had our own bathroom. We had a private courtyard with our own gate to access the beach across the road.
Unfortunately, late in our stay we had trouble with our fridge. Anna and Bernie were very helpful, but unfortunately, we had to move apartments which was a bit disappointing at the time, but Bernie and Anna made the move easy and quick and once we were all moved into Unit 12 on the first floor, we enjoyed the views of the pool area and were all very happy with this apartment. The only difference with this apartment was it had 2 bathrooms not 3 but that wasn't a problem. A big shout out to Bernie who helped us through our stay, nothing was a problem for him, and he was always happy to help. Having two pools in the complex was great and we had the smaller pool all too ourselves each time we went there. If you want a specific apartment, contact them directly and request what you are looking for as they are only too happy to help and make your stay a happy one. We will definitely stay there when we go back to Port Douglas in the future. Highly recommend The Mandalay Beachfront Apartments especially the Executive Apartments.

We had a lovely stay at Mandalay Apartments, in apartment 3 which was a 2 bedroom / 2 bathroom ground floor apartment (front of the pool). It is maintained and plenty of kitchen utilities, crockery, towels, hairdryers, clothes dryer, fridge with built in ice maker and cold water filter. The pod coffee machine (not Nespresso brand) was a bit disappointing, as it doesn’t have a milk frothier, so we heated milk in the microwave. The staff were very accommodating and helpful to our needs. Mandalay is about a 10min walk to top end of Macrossan St, which was an easy walk. It is a 2min walk to beach access to the four mile beach which was great for morning walks and there was morning yoga classes on the beach. The surf club is also a 3 min walk and does a good meal and there is a cafe near by that does a good coffee. I would stay and Mandalay again.

We stayed in a beautifully appointed spacious 2 bed, 2 bath, ground floor apartment with direct access to the pool and the lush tropical gardens. Our apartment was a home away from home, spotlessly clean, well equipped full size kitchen including a french door fridge & dishwasher, full laundry, ducted air conditioning and ceiling fans throughout made for a very comfortable stay. Breakfast on our patio each morning followed by a snooze on the day-bed was just one of the highlights of our stay! Mandalay has underground parking, a tennis court and is directly adjacent to Four Mile beach and only a short flat stroll to bustling Macrossan Street. The Mandalay team were all so lovely, very helpful and very organised. I’d have no hesitation recommending a stay here, I know I’ll definitely return.

The Mandalay is in a great location, right across from Four Mile Beach and a 5 minute walk to the shops and restaurants of Macrossan Street. We booked the Mandalay because we didn't want to hire a car; on past visits we have had a car and rented a house or apartment around Mitre Street. Our standard apartment was on the side overlooking the park and tennis court, great outlook but the noise from Davidson Road (the main road in) was constant and from early in the morning. The apartment itself was spacious, comfortable but the kitchen and bathrooms are dated. There was a table and wooden chairs on the balcony which were not comfortable and combined with the road noise made sitting out there an unpleasant experience. An outdoor lounge setting would be a much better idea but as with most holiday apartments, they are independently owned and furnished to the owners taste, so you don't always know what you're getting from looking at the pictures. The pool was lovely, heated but quickly became a noisy children soup for most of the day and impossible to swim in. The second luxurious pool (a description from the website) is anything but, not heated and dated. Overall we were disappointed, it was constantly noisy from the traffic, from screaming kids in the pool or in the hallways and stairwells (3 floors and no lifts!) which are all tiled and echo. We'll go back to the quieter end of Port Douglas next time.

Dear Julie, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I am glad to hear that you were pleased with the location of Mandalay, and the outlook from your apartment. I am surprised to hear that the noise from Davidson Street was an inconvenience, as most of our guests find this to be a peaceful location. It is lovely to read that you found the apartment to be spacious and comfortable. I am sorry that you experienced other issues with the unit. We have taken your feedback on the apartment itself onboard and had discussions with the owner of the unit. We hope to renovate this apartment early next year. Whilst Mandalay is generally a very peaceful resort, it is also family friendly, so the pool can be busy especially during school holidays. However, our guests generally find that if the main pool is very busy then the second pool remains peaceful, giving guests both options. Having just one pool heated during the winter also provides two options in an aim to please as many guests as possible. We stayed 7 nights in a 3 bedroomed apartment on the 2nd (top) floor. We received a very warm welcome, and thanks to the chap who carried all our luggage upstairs whilst we were parking in the underground car park.The apartment was very spacious, immaculately clean and extremely well appointed and comfortable. It contained everything we needed for our stay. The hotel seemed to have its own beach front access right next to the lifeguard area. It was also a 10 minute walk or 2 minute drive right into the main tourist streets of Port Douglas. This made this hotel's location much better than some of the better known hotels you see upon entering Port Douglas.All in all a perfect location that we were all very sad to say goodbye to. Only grumble - get dampers put on all the slam shut doors..they were so loud, fortunately we heard nothing at night.

We let reception know of our requests ahead of time and they moved heaven and earth to accomodate us in a wonderful 3 bedroom deluxe apartment number 16 with newly renovated bathrooms on the first floor away from the pool. It was the ideal apartment for us. This was our fourth stay here and we love the location, so close to the beach and easy walk to Main Street and restaurants. We played tennis each day on the court here (you need to book) and used the sparkling clean bbq facilities one evening. Kids love the pool area which is largely in shade. You cross the road out the back of the resort and you’re on the boardwalk to four mile beach. Magic!

This is not a luxury resort .
I booked 3 bed flat , we were put on the top floor , room number 39.
It was shocking the standard of everything. The decor was so old and tied . The mattresses lumpy with springs sticking out. The smell of damp in the whole area of the flat was awful.
Holes in walls, the decor in lounge and bedrooms needed updating 10 years ago , the same for the bathrooms .
There is limited supply of everything, one toilet , no toiletries.
There were 5 of us and 4 coffee pods provided.
You had to buy extra pods £1 per pod from reception as local supermarkets don’t sell them !
We have spent 3 weeks touring Australia snd every place we stayed provided an abundance of basics to see you through , not here !
We complained to reception about the poor standard and quality , they offered to try and find a better quality flat but not until the following day with the hope one became available.
They agreed the flat was not up to standard .
Apparently some flats are privately owned and it’s up to owners to update them.
It’s potluck what you are allocated .
We booked through Booking.com and this is not explained on the site that flats are privately owned.

We did not stay here so can’t comment on facilities , we checked out as soon as we found something else .

Dear Paula, We allocated you to a top floor as you requested at the time of booking. When you then requested a ground floor apartment the day prior to arrival it was too late to move rooms around as we were fully booked. As Mandalay is serviced apartments and not a hotel, we provide just a starter supply of amenities to get you through the first day or two. I can assure you that there are a minimum of 2 toilets in all of our apartments, and toiletries including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, and body lotion are provided in each bathroom. When we purchased our coffee machines many years ago, Coles Port Douglas sold the pods that they use. Unfortunately, they stopped stocking this particular brand a few months ago. Rather than replace all 42 coffee machines, we purchase the pods online for guests to buy at reception, and we provide some FOC pods for guests to try. We were sorry to hear that you were unhappy with the apartment, as we want all of our guests to have an enjoyable stay. Unfortunately when you called reception we were fully booked for the night. Although we disagree with your comment that the photos on booking.com of our deluxe apartments do not represent the room that you were allocated to, management offered to upgrade you to an executive apartment the following day when one would definitely be available. As with many accommodations in Port Douglas (and Australia), we are a strata titled property. The apartments are privately owned and therefore they are not all furnished and styled the same, however I feel that it is wrong to say that it is 'pot luck' what you get. If you want a fully renovated apartment then you can book one of our executive apartments. We do take these comments very seriously and we are in discussions with the owner of the unit regarding upgrades for the very near future. When you declined the offer to upgrade the following day and requested a full refund, the manager agreed as we wanted you to go ahead and enjoy your holiday. I am sorry that you were unhappy with your apartment, however I feel that we have done all that we can to resolve the situation, and it is disappointing that you still felt the need to write such a scathing review. We were given an “upgrade” to a three bedroom apartment- a bit over the top for 2 people. It was furthest from the pool. We had booked a two bedroom executive renovated apartment close to the main pool but the one we were allocated was quiet and had fly screens throughout ( be aware that not all apartments have fly screens). This apartment was very well equipped with everything you would need - plenty of cutlery and crockery and glasses.
We would go back out of school holidays as the few kids who were there were very boisterous and “chased” those of us seeking peace and quiet away.
Overall ask for a ground floor renovated apartment with fly screens so you can sleep with the windows open.

I was surprised after all the positive reviews to have a very disappointing stay at the Mandalay. Perhaps it depends what apartment you get. We were in apartment 30. The apartment was grotty, dark and dingy, and smelt strongly of mould. We spent as little time as possible in the apartment. Tired decor, broken bedside lamp. The coffee machine provided makes terrible coffee that you have to pay for individual pods for. Worth noting that the toiletries provided really are low quality and the bare minimum and so would bring your own. Also note there are no lifts and 3 flights of stairs so if you have luggage or any mobility issues ensure you let staff know. Wasn’t a problem for us but a bit tiresome. There is nothing luxury about this property!
However, the pool area is nice (doesn’t get any direct sun for sun bathing etc but is a nice area to cool off) and location is fantastic. So would strongly recommend avoiding this property but staying at one of the many near by properties.

Hi Alex, We are sorry to hear that your stay at Mandalay was not enjoyable. If you had mentioned any of this to us, we would have done our best to assist with your complaints. We don't service the apartments daily by giving you a daily supply of amenities but we do give you enough for the first few days. As our website states, ground floor may be available on request, all other apartments are 1st or 2nd floor with stair access. Your apartment has mountain views with some very lovely northern afternoon sun on the bedroom sides. It is unfortunate that during your stay here, there were quite a few rainy days which certainly does impact on your holiday. I am pleased that you enjoyed the common grounds and the pool area. The Mandalay apartments provided excellent accommodation. We were upgraded on our arrival to a 2 bedroom apartment with private verandah, dining table, cosy seating and sun loungers. Accommodation was clean and tidy and new lounge furniture had just been installed!
Great trips offered, we went to the Great Barrier Reef and did a sunset sail. Plenty of restaurants a short walk away and the well fitted kitchen allowed for home cooking.
The beach is just across the road from the apartment safe swimming zones and a lifeguard who is there all day reporting on the status of swimming.
We were sad to be leaving the Mandalay, staff were great and extended our check out so we had use of the accommodation until we were transferred to the airport!

Hi Paula, we have 3 different types of 3 bedroom apartments: Standard, Deluxe, and Executive. You can see photos of these room types on our website, or you can call us if you would like help deciding which is best for you.
Hi, we do not have a gym, however the Port Douglas Gym is close by and offers daily and weekly passes.

We didn't see any buses but there are coach trips from the town. We hired a car and did our own it was amazing and such a lovely place. Have a great time.
