The Peninsula Boutique Hotel garners appreciation for its prime location with easy beach access and its inclusive breakfast, with the pool area also receiving positive remarks. While guests enjoy the ocean views and the hotel's relaxed atmosphere, opinions on the rooms vary due to outdated decor and some maintenance concerns.
Although the service is generally commended for its friendliness, there are occasional issues with responsiveness. The value proposition is seen as mixed, with guests divided on whether the cost is justified by the facilities and services offered.

We absolutely love this boutique hotel. Our first experience was during the early days of COVID, when we were finally allowed out of our tiny town post lockdown in QLD, and we’re allowed to travel inside our own state again!
Heather & Norm are the most fantastic managers of this very special “Adults Only” boutique hotel. They are always happy to see you and greet all of their guests with a warm reception.
A full restaurant style daily Breakfast is included in your stay, and there are complimentary push bikes and beach chairs for guest to use throughout your stay.
The Rooms are now serviced daily (if you require), otherwise leave your “do not disturb” sign on the door and sit out on the front balcony (if you have an ocean view room) to take in the spectacular beachside view Four Mile beach, Low Island and it’s surrounding reef, which are all directly across the coconut palm lined esplanade.
The hotel has an in-house restaurant called Hi Tide, which boasts some seriously good cuisine, along with happy hour cocktails made by the best staff ever! Tara & Al make the most amazing pina coladas & mango daiquiris, and you can sip them all day by the pool if you choose to. They make great barista coffee also, which is a must on the morning before heading out for a day on the reef!
The best part about this boutique hotel is.....Adults Only! As mature travellers, we really appreciate staying at locations which offer adults only amenities nowadays. Our days of entertaining children are loooong gone and value quality relaxing down time with no distractions.

Upon arrival we were greeted with a very friendly desk clerk who escorted us to our room personally and showed us all the amenities. Our third room floor overlooked the multi-tiered pool and hot tub. We had a beautiful screened porch to sit on as well. The walk to the beautiful beach took about three minutes from our room. We ate in the restaurant and enjoyed our entrees. Our breakfast was a very nice, made to order breakfast that was included in the room, or a continental breakfast at your choosing. While I did see a cockroach, I can totally understand that in that climate they would be hanging around almost everywhere. Our room temp and bed were very very comfortable. The room came complete with a very large shower and jacuzzi tub. The staff we interacted with couldn't have been nicer at every stage of our stay for three nights. I was very happy to find a washer and dryer at not charge on the premise as we were coming off a nine day cruise and needed to refresh our wardrobe. We wished we had more time actually at the hotel to take the bicycles for a spin as this hotel is very close to downtown shopping and restaurants. I would highly recommend this place for a relaxing vacation spot.

Thanks so much for taking the time to write your review. We are thrilled you enjoyed your time in Port Douglas and enjoyed your stay with us. Unfortunately because it is our wet season & we live in the tropics, we do get insects due to the rain & hot weather. We hope you enjoy the rest of your Australian Holiday! You are most welcome to come back anytime. Kind regards, The PBH Team

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
My husband and I recently spent 5 nights at the Peninsula for our babymoon and it was the peaceful, relaxing stay we were after. The staff at check in (and every day) were lovely and friendly. We had a lovely room, tastefully decorated and nice and cool in the FNQ heatwave! Beautiful bathroom amenities too!
The only thing I might be mindful of would be asking for a room a little further from the restaurant as it has a smaller balcony and you can hear the general restaurant noise floating up.
Complimentary laundry facilities were greatly appreciated, it allowed us to get our holiday washing done all in one day before returning to fickle old VIC.
The breakfasts were amazing, lots of choice, we could have something different everyday.
The pool area is quiet and relaxing with the waterfall, lots of banana lounges to choose from, mostly we had the pool to ourselves! Spa is probably a little too warm and therefore not useable in the QLD heat.
My only real let down was the limited hours of the bar/restaurant due to ?COVID + staffing. Both were closed the first two days of our stay (Sun/Mon), we utilised our happy hour drinks Tuesday night (which were great!) but there is no bar or lunch service during the day at all. The hotel is in such a great location, its easy enough to walk in to town but when you want to just spend the day chilling out by the pool it would have been more convenient to order drinks and food to the poolside to avoid stepping out.
This trip was the 4th for my husband and I and we have always stayed in hotels not within walking distance to town so being directly opposite the beach was also super convenient, the complimentary beach chairs and umbrellas were great and saved us hiring at the beach.
We would definitely return to stay at the Peninsula Boutique Hotel when we can leave baby at home with a babysitter!

This is a return visit to this special hotel. We are over in Australia on our honeymoon. The hotel is in a gorgeous location at the end of the Main Street and overlooking Four Mile beach. You can walk into town in a few minutes but hear no noise at all.
The staff are a delight and also knowledgeable about the area; nothing is too much trouble for them.
This is an adult only hotel so no children noises. The pool area is gorgeous to while away hours and it is never busy. Sunscreen is provided during the day in addition to a supply of fresh drinking water.
A fabulously laid back hotel. Perfect location.

We spent 3 nights after Xmas at at this hotel. We were aware we were choosing to visit at a peak tourist time, during unfavourable weather conditions (extreme humidity, high likelihood of rain). However after taking these things into consideration and with a room rate as high as we've ever paid anywhere in the world (>$400 pn) it's fair to say our expectations prior to arrival were high.
The positives:
1. This hotel has the best position in town. An easy walk to and from shops, cafes and restaurants, directly across the road from the beach.
2. The Hi Tide restaurant is lovely, capturing beach views and afternoon breezes. The food is good, the service super friendly. Breakfasts provided as part of the package were delicious and generous, the only issue having to pay extra for 'proper' coffee.
3. The room was generously proportioned with a fabulously comfortable bed.
The downsides:
1. We booked an ocean view room and were allocated room 2, on the ground floor right next to the restaurant and reception. Everyone staying at the hotel passes this room on the way to anywhere. It's on the beach side of the building, however, it's impossible to enjoy beach views as right outside are passers by. We had to keep the blinds more or less closed making the room dark and not that pleasant to hang out in.
2. Our room was not serviced until around 3pm, putting paid to any opportunity for an afternoon siesta! Maybe it's just me who enjoys this as part of a 'beach holiday' and, in the scheme of things it's pretty minor, but it was irritating.
3. As mentioned above the hotel is well located, the room comfortable and the breakfasts good and if we'd paid a 'regular' hotel rate (say ~$200-$250), we might have considered it reasonable value. But at almost double that price and having booked 3-4 months in advance, we were disappointed.

This was our second stay the first one being 12 years ago. It did not disappoint! We had a lovely suite on the second floor overlooking four mile beach. The suite itself was furnished well in a modern style with full kitchen facilities. The washing machines and dryers situated on the 2nd and 3rd floors were a huge bonus as travelling Australia we needed to do the laundry! Breakfasts were good and plentiful which could be taken overlooking the pool or in the restaurant overlooking the beach. Staff were friendly and attentive. The Hi Tide restaurant is a good addition to our last visit, we enjoyed a few meals there including Christmas lunch. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel and if we go back to that part of the world the Peninsula would be our choice again.

With many apartment complexes to choose from in PD, to stay in a hotel was a different and happy experience for us. We've holidayed many times in this pretty town and when Qantas Hotels had a deal late last year using QFF points, I grabbed it.
Our room was an ocean view suite which I recommend as looking out to the ocean and assessing the weather is both interesting and informative. Being May, we had almost daily rain showers, overcast skies but with many periods of warm sunshine. Back to the room. Everything you need for a weeks stay is at your finger tips. Clean, daily housekeeping and enough crockery to have a meal in your room makes it more than adequate. Nice touches like the full size bottles of body wash, shampoo and body lotion are appreciated and are oh so nice. Coffee pods are replenished daily with extras given when asked. We were lucky to be given a room with a wide balcony.
Breakfast was good and served by seemingly happy staff. The gluten free toast was really good. The seasonal fruit was a little light on (no melon?) but satisfactory. Filtered coffee was OK.
We would happily stay here again. It's not cheap but worth the extra $ to experience a little luxury in a prime location.

We had booked to stay in Palm Cove down the road, and added a few extra nights to stay at Port Douglas, as we hadn't been there before. We booked a three night package at the Peninsula Boutique Hotel through Luxury Escapes, for an Ocean View room and some extras including breakfast, a bottle of sparkling wine and a fruit and cheese platter.
We received updated just before we headed up to Port Douglas from the hotel, which was helpful. We arrived early in the day, and went for a wander into Port Douglas for lunch. The hotel is in a perfect location, being across the road from the Four Mile Beach, and only a short walk into Port Douglas itself. It only took us 15-20 minutes to walk right across to the marina.
Our room was great, on the top floor with a view of the beach. We used the beach chairs to chill out on the beach and went for a couple of swims. We didn't try out the pool, as it wasn't necessary. Having a decent size fridge in the room, with a kitchenette was good, as sometimes we like to grab a few things to cook our own dinner, with a couple of bottles of wine and just relax out on the balcony.
Breakfast was good, and after the first day we worked out what was included, and what we had to pay extra for - maybe the staff could have explained that a bit better. We had a coffee in the restaurant, but didn't eat there, as there are a lot of good places in Port Douglas itself.
As we were travelling light - hand luggage only, the complimentary guest laundry was greatly appreciated, as we could wash as we went along, and not worry about packing too much.
Overall, it was a great place to stay, and as we're sorting out our travel for next year, we'll definitely book to stay there again.

Thanks for the great review, were glad we were able to extend your booking for you. Sorry about the Breakfast mix up, we are all very short staffed and the girls do their best. Its confusing when there are so many different package's out there with different inclusions. We look forward to welcoming you again on your next Port Douglas holiday.

We have visited PD many times but this was our first stay at the Peninsula and we were not disappointed and will gladly stay here again. Our room was overlooking 4 mile beach but I think even the rooms overlooking the pool area would also be lovely as they are still quite private. The pool area was beautiful and over 2 levels the upper level there were sun lounges and also a heated spa. We were able to take our own drinks into the pool area and the bar staff even kindly placed some ice into our esky for us to keep our drinks cold...and being an adults only hotel the pool area was always a serene place to chill out. Our bed in our ocean view suite was comfy our room also had a large bathroom with a spa bath, a kitchenette and a patio that overlooked the beach. Another plus was secure under cover free parking and also there was a complimentary guest laundry on each level and washing powder was also provided at no additional charge. The staff that we interacted with in the Hotel were all so lovely, Nicole at reception was exceptional to deal with (especially when we kept asking for another night as we didn't want to leave) and also arranging a last minute trip for us to Low Isles with Sailaway, Lucia and Javi in the Restaurant (can't remember all the wait staffs names) but they were all fantastic and a credit to the Hotel and help make places memorable :) We look forward to coming back again soon <3

We visited this seemingly upmarket cafe/ restaurant within the Peninsular Boutique Hotel for breakfast on two occasions and both were as bad as each other. It may be ok on a quiet day but if it’s busy it’s clearly best to go elsewhere.
While the wait staff are running around like headless chooks, you are expected to wait out in the heat of the sun to be seated. A canopy over the ‘wait area’ is a must in this climate.
Once seated, the breakfast service is appalling. We were faced with a surly waitress who treated customers as an intrusion.
I ordered a second cup of coffee ....still waiting half an hour later!
The people on the table opposite waited an hour for their breakfast.
If you need condiments or sauce it’s no good waiting for someone to serve you. Instead you have to get up and wander to the kitchen area to ‘catch’ a waiter.
Dinner on the other hand is a totally different kettle of fish. Excellent table service from Tara who managed a full restaurant admirably and very cheerfully. . Reasonably priced menu and food is terrific.
It’s a great position being opposite the beach and would be so much more enjoyable with the above breakfasting matters addressed. Whoever manages this place needs to get a grip and more wait staff in the mornings would be a good start!
While the wait staff are running around like headless chooks, you are expected to wait out in the heat of the sun to be seated. A canopy over the ‘wait area’ is a must in this climate.

Thanks for your feedback, and we totally acknowledge that some days over the Christmas - New Year period our restaurant was absolutely flat out during breakfast service, especially on the public holidays. We have taken your feedback on board. Kind regards, PBH Team

Hi there,
Yes there are some loungers by the pool, but the pool is near reception and the cafe which does allow children, so something to keep in mind. You might find 10 days a lot and I'd probably recommend staying here for maybe 4 or 5 nights and then somewhere like The Reef House in Palm Cover which has 2 pools, more loungers than guests and is truly child free.
No gym small resort but I did see a gym in the town approximately 10 minute walk
