There is a good vibe throughout the hostel. It is good value for money. The kitchen is semi outdoors and is crawling with flies and ants. The double rooms are a bit small but the the pool and hammocks make up for it

Stayed over 4 months at dougies, all the staff were fantastic and made me feel at home. Especially nikki who was ace! All the rooms were clean and there's long term rooms for workers, made some amazing friends. And it has the cheapest bar in town! A home from home!

The most luxurious of any backpackers it feels like you're stepping into the jungle they go as far as offering fluffy towels with soap at the end of your bed and a little fridge in your room for easy access to midnight snacks. I stayed in a private room which had air conditioning, a TV and a big double bed...

We stumbled on them while we were looking for a place to stay and as they say - some things are meant to be. When they told us the price for a room (bed, fridge, dresser) plus access to a full (like BIG) kitchen, showers, pool (yes a pool too), hanmocks and others we took it for 3 nights at...

Bit out of the city but a 15-20 min walk along the lovely beach front takes you into town. Lovely shops, the chocolate shop is a highlight. Slightly prices area but the hostel is lovely. Well run, nice accommodation and staff were very helpful. Good facilities for a long term stay. Highly recommend.

The staff at this backpackers set the standard for what customer service should be like. The location is good only a 15 minute walk to town Centre, 5 min to beach. Bit of a dirty kitchen but great drink specials, pool table and outdoor pool. Air con worked really well in private room and bathrooms were always kept clean. But...

I've lived and worked in a few different countries, and Dougie's is without a doubt the best backpacker/hostel I've ever been to. As the name suggests, it's a backpacker *resort*. The property is well set up for long term backpackers who are looking to work a season in Port Douglas. The grounds are beautiful, the staff is very friendly and...

I love this place and would recommend it to anyone! It's a great place to meet people and the staff are amazing. The bar is cheap and the kitchen is cleaned regularly. If your looking for a true backpacker homely chilled place dougies is for you!

One of my favourite hostels out of the east and the west coast. Initially i was not looking forward to coming here as i heard port douglas was expensive and not much there. However, i had already booked. When i arrived i was greeted by lovely welsh receptionists who i instantly got on with being welsh myself. The time i...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Dougies is run by a bunch of us who had lots of fun backpacking around places of the world before, so we decided to start a hostel ourselves. We have the pretty relaxed atmosphere, without all of the formal procedures that some hostels have. Our philosophy is 'kick back and relax at Dougies'. We have all of the facilities that a fun loving backpacker could ever need, including a bar, refreshing swimming pool, free bbq facilities, shop (coke, ice-creams, chockies, etc), a huge self-cook kitchen, laundry, internet, satellite TV (really big one), hire bikes, fishing rods, tour desk and of course accommodation (doubles, twins, share rooms, camping, van sites and our own stylish canvas tents). But once you see our tropical gardens and cruisy front lawn you might just want to lay back and relax under a palm tree, kick back in a hammock, by the pool or you may even like to unwind on the grass and soak up some of the Far North's warm tropical sunlight. ... more   less
