After traveling Australia for just over a month, and just recently getting my PADI certification on the Great Barrier Reef, I knew I needed a break from hostels. I couldn't have planned this small R&R part of my adventure any better as By The Sea Port Douglas was the perfect place to unwind. This hotel offers great amenities and thoughtful touches throughout the rooms/hotel itself. The kitchen in my small 'rainforest room' was very well equipped, everything was perfectly clean and the beach equipment/swimming pool were all icing on the cake. Modestly priced accommodation, great customer service and perfect location next to 4 Mile Beach all make By The Sea a place I'd stay at again without hesitation. If you're coming to Port Douglas then make sure you look into this hotel!

What an amazing find, the staff, the service, the rooms, and so many additional bonuses. It’s just a wonderful playground for the adults and kids. Exceptional on so many levels. The location is about 10 metres to the beach, the rooms have everything you need and are spotless. I could even hire bikes- free, NutriBullet-free, dvds, books, weights, yoga mats, games and so much more. The staff were also wonderful and nothing was too much trouble. Brilliant

As many others have said, this location is simply unbeatable. You are right on Macrossan Street and right across the road from 4 mile beach, it doesn't get any better location wise.
My advice is to book directly through By the Sea as they had a much better rate than any other site I went on, Booking or Trivago, for example.
My 3 friends and I had a 3 bedroom villa (Jelly Baby) for a week and it ended up costing us less than $100 per person per night. The quality of the villa was outstanding, also. It had a pool adjacent, three spacious bedrooms, an outdoor eating area with bbq and shower, balconies with a fantastic view and a big kitchen; absolutely everything you could need. You really can't go wrong.
If you don't have something you need, all you need to do is visit reception and there is a plethora of items you can hire out at no extra charge. Towels, pool toys, DVDs, eskies, beach chairs, you name it and they'll find it for you.
At reception you will also find any and all information you could possibly need on tours or trips, I highly recommend booking these through By the Sea as well as they will take care of everything for you and make sure you get picked up and dropped off home. A friend and I went out to the reef and had an all organised through reception, all we had to do was show up.
The staff there are absolutely amazing and were nothing but supportive and helpful throughout the entire booking process. anything we needed while on the trip, we just asked and they are more than happy enough to help us out.
I have stayed in Port Douglas a fair few times now and I can safely say that this is the best place to stay if you want to be central to everything and have everything in walking distance.
A 30-second walk across the road and you're on four mile beach, a 10-minute walk down the road and you're at the end of Macrossan Street.
I highly recommend going for a villa if you have a few people going with you, it was a fantastic trip and I can't thank Myra and the Girls at By the Sea enough.
We will be back.

By the Sea is simply the best! The rooms are spotless and comfortable but more than that, the ladies who run the place will do their absolute best to be sure you’re made right at home. These ladies will handle all your bookings and steer you toward the best choices whether for reef diving or dinner. They will set you up with whatever you might need for a day at the beach with complimentary coolers, umbrellas, beach chairs and floating toys. Of course, if you want to stay right here, they have an infinite assortment of games and movies and a snug little pool you can tuck into. When you stay here, you feel like you’re staying with your best friend. It’s no wonder they are so frequently booked up! Call or email them directly and plan to have a smashing good time.

Second time here and first as a family of three with our 3 year old son. It had been just on 4 years since our last visit & everything was just as we remembered. A welcome pat from Ryan 🐶 at reception and a warm welcome from the girls is nice after a long trip.
We stayed in Sadies Den for 2 weeks & it suited our little family just fine, The kitchen is perfect with full amenities including full sized fridge, oven & dishwasher. There is also a bbq out on the veranda. There is 2 split system air conditioners which is mandatory Jan / Feb. There is a good sized bathroom & also washing machine & dryer. 2 weeks flew by like 2 days 😞 playing in the pool & walking along 4 mile beach.
If you’re looking for a comfortable & friendly place to stay do not hesitate to check out By The Sea, All the Staff are so friendly & welcoming, one big happy family. They are a credit to the place & Wendy the owner.
Already planning our next trip.

By The Sea was a wonderful holiday surprise package. Located 50 meters from the beach this perfectly maintained Resort must have the best staff in Port Douglas. Always helpful, happy and smiling - nothing was too much trouble. Our room on the 2nd floor had palm and sea views, a wonderful setting for morning coffee or evening drinks. The added advantage to the room location was a lovely sea breeze to offset the heat and humidity. I would love to stay again - it was a treat!

The location in our opinion is the best in Port Douglas. We had a view of the ocean and being in the quiet end of the Main Street it was very close to all the shops and restaurants and cafes. Four mile beach was practically at the door. The room had everything we needed, was clean and modern and the items available for loan from reception included everything you could ever need. Perfect for families. The ladies were very friendly and helpful. The bikes available were perfect for exploring the area and beach. There were little quirky touches that added the fun element. Would highly recommend.

We could not have been happier with our choice of accomodation for a 5 night stay at PD. From the time of booking (directly with them) the experience was faultless.
We chose a Cute Cosy room which was particularly clean, comfortable and suitable for our needs. Hubby was impressed with the size of the TV!
Adjacent to the foyer there is a huge area filled with everything we could possibly need. We regularly used the beach towels, very light folding beach chairs and always available ice for our drinks to take out. Disappointed we didn't have enough time to take out pushbikes, games etc etc etc
The beach is stunning and only a stones throw away. There are shady places all day so stay as long as you like! So many things to do and places to go outside of PD but we were reluctant to leave where we were. I only wish we could have stayed longer. We are already planning our return.
Thanks girls! See you next time!

I will start by saying how helpful and understanding the girls at By the Sea are. My flight back in July was cancelled at the airport just as we were due to board the plane, however, feeling very stressed, I called the girls at the accomodation to say what had happened. I was very fearful that we would lose our money but they were great! They allowed us to keep it as credit and to rebook when we had dates sorted. Check in was smooth and painless. We showed to our freshly sanitised room and presented with a certificate to show that the room was sanitised to a very hight standard. The room had everything we needed and well equip. There was a balcony where we spent the early mornings and evenings. We were within a stones throw of 4 mile beach which is breath taking. We had many evening walks here...... The accommodation is close to everything we needed and did not have to use the hire car during our stay. There is also a marina within walking distance with a brewery to visit looking onto the water. We will definitely be returning. If there is one thing I would say that was a down side, it would be the slamming screen doors. The neighbours would leave their apartment at 6.45am everyday to load their car for the day I think... the door would bang closed every time they left and returned which was around 6 times in 10 mins. Maybe a slow closer on the doors may help or even a friendly reminder to assist the door in closing.

The girls are great! They are helping out travelers with nowhere to go during the quarantine and we are so grateful for them. With most things in town shut down there is still plenty to do here with all the fun stuff they provide. They have been very helpful with providing information about restrictions and are kind and patient enough to sanitize everything after each use to keep guests safe. Even in uncertain times they have gone above and beyond for their guests and we can't thank them enough!

Hi
Thank you for your enquiry.
The pool is located at the front of the villa complex so you are not able to see the pool from Jelly Bean.
There are some chairs and sun lounges around the pool for your comfort.
From All The Girls
More the former than the latter...Pool is very small, with only seven loungers by our count. There were kids playing during our stay but for the most part the size of the area made for a tranquil feel.
Very quiet
No - not at all. It's way down the street from all the main shops and restaurants.
How do I know what I'm getting when I place a reservation?
