Mantra PortSea Port Douglas enjoys accolades for its excellent location close to the town and beach, as well as its vibrant atmosphere that suits both couples and families, especially around the Lagoon Bar. However, the hotel's rooms often disappoint due to cleanliness and maintenance issues.
While the variety of pools is a highlight, limited towels and reduced pool bar hours have been noted. Opinions on value and service are split, with some guests questioning the value for money and experiencing inconsistent service, despite the overall resort cleanliness being satisfactory for many.

Our family of 5, including three teenagers stayed for 5 night at this hotel:
What we liked:
Location: although on the main road to lovely Port Douglas, it has a short back pathway to the superb 4-miles beach. 15' walk to most restaurants, shops, marina, cafes. This said we drove around
Family room was spacious enough for five. There was also a kitchenette and kitchen ware.
Well working air conditioning and ceiling fans
Nice curvy pool beautifully embedded into the hotel courtyard. Plus a jacuzzi our kids loved. Not really a pool for swimming but very relaxing and very appreciated by children around i noticed. Funnily enough, in spite of how exposed it was to the pool area and the other rooms around, our room was quiet.
Available and free parking in the garage
Things that need improvement:
On arrival in the evening we were given a room on the basement that did not correspond to our booking months before for a room with a nice pool view. The reception was not able to solve the issue that evening. We complained to the manager and she organised the change of rooms the following morning. Thank you Karisa!
To our surprise, the room was not serviced during our 5-day stay. When we asked on day 2 we were told that it was at an extra cost. I do not remember having read about that on the Accor web site when booking. A change of towels is only offered for stays of + 4 nights.
Given the cost of the stay and that we eat out and therefore we do not use the kitchen, not having the family room cleaned is suboptimal.
The safe box needs an extra key from the reception to be operational. Not sure if that is for free or a paid service.
Bathrooms and amenities are adequate. We cannot comment on breakfast as we did not try it. There is a tennis court and a small fitness room too, but we did not use those either.

Dear Lovingtravellingin, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience through the Trip Advisor community. We really appreciate this so thank you. We are glad to read that on the whole your stay with us ticked most of the boxes and that it was a positive experience and that you enjoyed our beautiful piece of paradise that is Port Douglas. We are a little biased in saying it is a special part of Far North Queensland. We have noted your comments and shall review your feedback further so that we may be able to better serve our valued guests. Regarding servicing of Rooms, we provide housekeeping services for stays of 8 days or more and limited towel changes for stays above 3 days. For shorter stays of 3 days or less unfortunately room servicing is not provided. We try to be as open and transparent regarding this and we apologise that this impacted your overall stay experience. As units are individually owned, safety deposit box keys are kept at Reception. Rest assured the use of the Safety Deposit box in the guest room is completely free of charge. We do however place a small token deposit charge on the room account for the key given out and then once the key is returned then the charge is removed. Thank you again for your review and we certainly look forward to serving you again next time you return to Port Douglas. Best Wishes, Paul Cahill General Manager

On the 5 th of November myself and my family headed to the mantra Portsea for a week !! Our room was ready ahead of the scheduled 3:15 in the afternoon so that was great , the kids tried and loved the pool. The depth of the pool is great if you have young kids and it is not overwhelmingly big so you can watch your children quite easily. The water in the pool doesn’t seem to be over chlorinated, it may even be salt water but at least it doesn’t burn your eyes out . The breakfast was better than I expected, there are cold ham, salami , muffins , croissants, jams, pancakes, fruit, juices etc. just missing eggs and bacon . The pool bar was great the kids loved the chips while my with tried all the cocktails, one big downer was it was not open on a Sunday or Monday which in my eyes is a little crap, I think when people are on holidays a pool bar should really be a seven days a week thing !! No room service is the other thing , it didn’t bother me two much as sometimes they come when you really don’t want them there .all in all it was a nice resort close to macro son st beach access and a lovely pool !! I would stay there again !! Fix the pool bar please I’m sure the South American girls would love an extra days work !!

Dear Sunseekerr, Thank you for sharing your feedback about your recent stay at Mantra Portsea Port Douglas. We really appreciate you taking a moment of your time to share your experience and we are glad that overall, your stay was a positive one and you enjoyed the facilities and beautiful Port Douglas. Regarding your comments about the Lagoon Pool Bar, as we have now entered the Low Season in Port Douglas we are operating on reduced times, and this information is displayed on our website. Unfortunately, it is not financially viable for us to operate normally during the Low Season when the property is tracking at such low occupancy. As an alternative though, guests have access to beverages through the Reception Lobby Shop so our valued guests can still enjoy a cold beverage when relaxing at the pool. With servicing of Rooms, we provide housekeeping services for stays of 8 days or more and limited towel changes for stays above 3 days. For shorter stays of 3 days or less unfortunately room servicing is not provided. We try to be as open and transparent regarding this and we apologise that this impacted your overall stay experience. Your feedback is greatly appreciated as it is only through such feedback that we can address any concerns or feedback that may have otherwise been overlooked. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Kind Regards, Paul Cahill General Manager

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
While I was aware of service limitations, I found the general level of (un)cleanliness, lack of key linen (tea towel for kitchen and beach towel) frustrating. Two trips to ask for these items and I got a stained threadbare beach towel, but no tea towel (attributed to local laundry service supplier). A day later, instead of a tea towel as promised I was given a change of bath towels and bathmat, which were unnecessary. The really uncomfortable metal bar stools and high table instead of standard chair and table made working difficult. Other little things like the rusty metal pedal bin that didn't have a pedal, a rusty clothes horse and rough weather worn balcony furniture spoke of a hotel/resort in need of some TLC and maintenance. WiFi arrangements changed after one day of my stay, requiring yet another walk to reception to ask for assistance. The room layout was functional but very tight, and there was no elevator for taking bags between the underground car park and first floor room. I would not recommend this hotel for anyone with limited mobility or fitness - stairs are the only option for moving about. There was space for baggage, but no baggage rack - essential if you travel with a suitcase or two. I was surprised that the rooms did not have insect screens! The louvres are solid and not transparent, limiting natural light if you don't want to risk insect bites.

Dear KW909, Thank you for sharing your feedback about your recent stay at Mantra Portsea Port Douglas. Please accept our sincere and heartfelt apologies for the obvious inconvenience caused during your stay. Clearly, we have fallen short to meet your stay experience and certainly is not our usual high standard we aim to deliver to our valued guests like yourself. I am not sure if you made mention of any of your cleanliness concerns to our Reception team during your stay however our Housekeeping Team are committed to providing a high level of cleanliness to all our guests. Sure, things may not go quite to plan sometimes however when our valued guests, like you, do encounter an issue during their stay we are committed to trying to resolve any issue that may arise however it is challenging for us to fix anything or set things right if we are not made aware. I am quite sure we would have been able to change things for you in this instance, whether it be re-clean your unit again or move you to another apartment if available. In addition, the Cairns and Port Douglas regions has experienced ongoing supply issues with our linen supplier over the past few months and as a direct result has impacted a number of properties and supply shortages of hotel linen. Whilst it is not an excuse for service lapses you have mentioned, we do want to highlight that the supply of linen from our provider is not always in our control. As the property was constructed in the late 90's without any thought of lift access, a common practice for construction projects in our region at that time as many resorts in Port Douglas are actually without lifts. Installing a lift now is regrettably not a financially feasible option, and given the resort's Strata Title ownership, such an undertaking is unlikely to be approved by individual unit owners due to the significant costs involved. We try to be as open and transparent regarding this by having this information displayed on our website however, we apologise that this impacted your overall stay experience with us. We hope that one day, you may allow us an opportunity to change your view of us and make amends for the disappointing experience you encountered as our aim is to deliver a great experience for our guests. We have no doubt that should you decide return one day, we would be delighted to welcome you again and be able to properly showcase our beautiful piece of paradise to you again. Your feedback, although critical, is nonetheless greatly appreciated as it is only through such feedback that we can address any concerns or feedback that may have otherwise been overlooked. Should you allow us an opportunity to make amends in the future, rest assured we will do all we can to look after you and restore your faith in us. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future where I have no doubt your next experience will be greatly improved. Kind Regards, Paul Cahill General Manager

Starting with the room - it was on ground floor opposite the pool. Anyone at the pool could see straight in so we either had to always have the blinds down or risk being stared at by randoms. No privacy at all.
The room itself was basic and our double bed was just two singles pushed together with a big ridge down the middle. The room had bugs and mosquitos in it and did not have sufficient blinds to block out the light. Every morning we woke up before 6am to bright sunshine and light coming into the room.
The Housekeeping - rooms aren't made up each day...or any day at all which I had already expected, however we were told during our 5 night stay we could get new towels once. We therefore planned it for our 3rd day. When we gave in our card we were then told there is a shortage and we may not get towels after all. We had already put our towels on the floor by then as we had no warning of this shortage so we had to go a day without towels. We were told that if we couldn't be provided with fresh towels we could always wash them ourselves in the laundry.....ordinarily I am happy to do washing but not on a holiday where we are meant to be staying at a nice resort. We had to ask 4 times for new towels and finally were given some a day later. Other reviews have mentioned this and the General Manager has cited logistical issues with the laundry and linen companies, but this has been the case for over 6 months it appears... you'd think they would have sorted it out by now.
Facilities - Tennis was offered for a fee but stopped every day at 6pm even though it didn't get dark until around 8pm and between 6-8pm would have been optimal times to play when the heat of the day wore off a bit. Similarly the pool bar was open 4 out of 7 days and closed at 5pm on the days it was open. After it did close, you could still enjoy the pool, but the edge of the pool, the lounges and tables would have empty cans and dirty glasses everywhere left by bar staff before they departed.
The whole place felt like an average airbnb (no housekeeping offered) but without the amenities a normal airbnb offers (like cooking appliances) and not a resort. The awkward in-between nature of the accomodation left us feeling let down given our expectation of a "4 star" resort.
Considering we chose to stay at a resort, a complimentary shuttle into town would have been good but instead we either had to pay $10pp every trip into town (took around 3-5mins driving) and back or walk 15 minutes in the heat.
The only good thing was the staff who were all lovely. I felt bad for a few of them as alot of the issues were not their fault and they did their best to make up for shortcomings, however the hotel really should be delivering better facilities for a 4 star resort experience.

Dear susieb974, Thank you for sharing your feedback about your recent stay at Mantra Portsea Port Douglas. Please accept our sincere and heartfelt apologies for the obvious inconvenience caused during your stay. Clearly, we have fallen short to meet your stay experience and certainly is not our usual high standard we aim to deliver to our valued guests like yourself. Regarding your comments about the unit you occupied, as we live in a tropical and wet tropics environment, bugs penetrating the rooms is unfortunate occurrence from time to time and something that we do our best to mitigate however unavoidable. Many are attracted to the corridor lighting which is necessary for safety reasons. Rest assured we have regular pest contractor inspections at the property and the associated treatments. As for the blinds we acknowledge that some light bleed may possibly penetrate the room and for that we sincerely sorry if this affected your stay experience. Regarding your comments around Housekeeping, we do try to be as open and transparent regarding the servicing of rooms. We acknowledge that when you asked for replacement towels, you should have received as requested and for that I sincerely apologise. Whilst not an excuse, the linen company that supplies our region, being Cairns, Palm Cove and Port Douglas has consistently failed to deliver a regular supply of linen to our properties in Far North Queensland. This has been a constant battle for all our properties and the reason being is that they are the only supplier in region and hold the monopoly. We hope that a new supplier may come into our region one day soon but for the time being we have no choice but to endure the limited supply we receive. Sadly, it is not as simple as just switching to another supplier like in a big city. We totally get the frustration and annoyance from our some of our valued guests in not being able to receive linen when requested occasionally, and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused. With our Tennis Court the hours of operation are from 10am until 6pm. As the court does not offer artificial lighting unfortunately it is not possible to extend beyond 6pm. This is for safety reasons. With the Lagoon Pool Bar, as we have now entered the Low Season in Port Douglas we are operating on reduced times, and this information is displayed on our website. Unfortunately, it is not financially viable for us to operate normally during the Low Season. As an alternative though, guests have access to beverages through the Reception Lobby Shop so our valued guests can still enjoy a cold beverage when relaxing at the pool. Guests that wish to redeem their welcome drink can do so through Reception directly. I have also addressed your comments with our housekeeping team to ensure that our Public Area’s are looking as good as possible. Referencing us to an AirBNB is somewhat inaccurate however totally appreciate that this is your viewpoint. Port Douglas has a range of shuttle bus operators that will quickly and easily take you into town. Most resorts generally do not offer any form of free shuttle bus transport for guests due to the prohibitive costs involved of operating a vehicle privately. Our location is a short 10-minute walk into the start of Macrossan Street. As we are in the wet season, we are in the hottest part of the year so the heat is something that any visitor to the region will no doubt experience. We do appreciate your kind words regarding our team members, and they do a great job day in day out, so we appreciate you recognising the hard work they do for our valued guests. We are sincerely sorry however that your visit was not as it should have been. Should you allow us an opportunity to make amends in the future, rest assured we will do all we can to look after you and restore your faith in us. Should you decide to change your mind and return one day we look forward to welcoming you back where I have no doubt your next experience will be greatly improved from the last. Kind Regards, Paul Cahill General Manager

Fab stay at Portsea Mantra Port Douglas Walking distance to town or take a local shuttle bus service (we used Excellence which offer 7 day unlimited pass for $78 pp). Stayed in 1 bedroom apartment, balcony overlooking pool (apartment number 39) no stairs on reception level. Spotless apartment, hot plate and microwave cooking facilities, spa bath/shower, king bed, pull out couch for extra person or kiddies. Apartment was fully air conditioned with 2 x ceiling fans which made for a really comfortable stay. Accor member therefore sparkling wine left in fridge as a welcome drink. A walk to Peppers resort 2 hotels down on left hand side we could use our Accor membership which gave 50% off dining for breakfast/dinner. Full buffet breakfast only 17.50 pp. Portsea has beautiful swim up pool bar and happy hr is 4pm - 5pm. Drinks at reasonable prices and cocktails of the day. Bar managed by polite and friendly staff Lucia and Matice who always went above and beyond to assist. Cannot wait to return again to Portsea Mantra. Thanks for a great stay !!!

We had an amazing family holiday staying at Mantra Portsea with our teenage / adult children. The pools were amazing with some being refreshingly cool while others were warm which was perfect at night. The swim up bar was a hit. The Continental breakfast had loads of variety with the pancake maker being a favourite. We loved our dual access apartment with its pool access from our private patio. The pools, buildings and surrounds were always spotless and the resort has a private track at the back leading straight to the beach. The staff were always friendly and eager to please and we certainly had no issues with the Wifi. I highly recommend Mantra Portsea Port Douglas.

Had a nice stay at Mantra Port Sea. Great location and facilities.
Pros
location, facilities, amenities, pool bar, 3 pools, short walk to the beach, refurbished room, friendly staff, laundry, gym
Cons
Pool bar only open 6 days a week and for 3 hours only, a lot of the bar snacks also not available and even though advertised there was no room service available, hallways and room smelt mouldy.
We decided to have our long awaited holiday at Mantra Portsea on recommendation of a friend who stayed there recently. The main reason we chose here as well as their recommendation was because of the location and the swim up bar. We were very disappointed (as were most of the orher guests we spoke to) that the pool bar hours had been cut short because of it being “their quiet time”. They were very strict with regards to staying open too despite much persusion from the guests to stay open. They would of made so much money and more by staying open longer 😞 Our room was well equipped, comfy bed, aircon, fans and the towel exchange was no problem but there was no luggage storage in the room. The shuttle service was great and reliable. It is a 10 min or so walk into town but not enjoyable in February heat so we bought a weekly shuttle pass and was worth every cent. It is a 5 min walk along the beach access road to four mile beach. There are three pools and a spa but most guests congregated in the main pool and bar area especially when it was open. Overall a great stay just wish the pool bar was open the longer hours.
Special mention to Jarryd amd Jake in the pool bar who made great cocktails and bar service.

We checked into our room for a birthday weekend and it was a severe letdown. The room hadn’t been maintained well, stains on couch and bed and damage to the walls, doors and bed frame. Room hadn’t even been cleaned properly, there a pad wrapper from the person before us. Food crumbs and sand on the couch when we arrived. Clothes horse was rusty. We requested a room change and that came at an extra cost. The bar fridge was filled with ice and leaking out onto the tiles. Room claimed kitchenette but there wasn’t even any cutlery or crockery for us to have breakfast. Bar closed on Sundays. We had a free breakfast voucher sent from All Accor to use at any of their locations. Staff said we could use the voucher but we were charged for breakfast upon checkout. Staff said they couldn’t deduct the voucher off our bill. Extremely disappointing considering the price we paid. No point being an All Accor member if one “free” nights accomodation in a rundown hotel is all you get. Won’t be going back

Wonderfully relaxing place to stay. We had a down stairs room which meant only one flight of stairs. There is no lift. Staff did offer to help with luggage. Staff were absolutely genuinely engaging warm and helpful. There is a shuttle bus into town which is only a 10 minute walk on the shaded side of the street if you want the exercise. The linen in the rooms is beautifully fresh and white, towels are only changed on request after 3 days. Pool towels are provided. All bathroom amenities are provided. All rooms individually air conditioned. Very private individual courtyard dining area. Kitchenette with full fridge and microwave oven, all crockery provided. They do not stock red wine but do have all other types and spirits and beer and also a swim up pool. The pool is not deep there are a couple of them though. Breakfast was continental and plenty of variety available. Our stay was only 4 days but really enjoyed it , highly recommend Nautilus restaurant nearby.

We had a fantastic stay, our room had small balcony with direct access to pool. The room was spotless, the shower, the bed and the aircon were lovely, so were the range of toiletries available. Room service really wasn't needed at all. Reception staff always helpful with bookings for trips. Breakfast more than adequate, its not a full service hot buffet and its stated as a continental breakfast. Everything from a toasted sandwich with 5 different types of bread, avos and 3 different fresh fruits, yoghurts, pancakes made before your eyes (the kids adored this!) what more did you want? However the place got rather crowded, so we tended to go first thing in the morning when it opened. There was easy access to the sea, but 'stinger season' meant swimming was only safe between the nets further up the beach, not the whole of the beautiful 4 mile stunning beach. The only drawback was that snacks (from the swim up bar - thats was lovely too.) were only available up to 6pm, so dinner out meant a trip by taxi (only $5) or a walk up to town. A restaurant on site would have been a nice option after full day tours left you tired, think that the space used for the tennis courts alongside the breakfast room could be better utilised as a restaurant.

Don’t waste your money. Most discussing place I have stayed. So dirty filthy dirty. Dirty pool. And very poor breakfast. And ridiculously over priced. Nothing and I mean nothing is included in the price. You have to beg for extra towels. So many other nice places to stay in the area. Look elsewhere
Hi there Darren!
We can confirm that the Pool Bar will be open over April. Our Breakfast Room is still closed, but we are hoping to have it open very soon! Please keep an eye on our website as it will be updated as soon as it has re-opened.
