We have been coming here for 15 years now and this place still provides the best of everything. Considering there were staff shortages due to covid, it didn’t feel like an obvious problem. Room service (which has improved and was hot and delicious) only took 40minutes and there was no issue getting food and drinks at the Lagoon bar. Everyone was friendly and just working so hard. Only seemed busy on the weekend, otherwise finding shade and a place to distance ourselves from others was fine.

We’ve just had a week here and enjoyed many things, including the extensive and beautifully maintained tropical grounds, countless poolside lounging options (it never felt overcrowded) and proximity to beach. The hotel was faced with unprecedented challenges related to great staff shortages this week, so while we feel the experience was not what it could have been under normal circumstances, we appreciate they did their best. The standout for us this week was a waiter named Heebok (on breakfast and pool- service duty) who was absolutely exemplary in terms of attitude and work-ethic. Our two boys (aged 6 and 9) adored him, as we all did. Due to the significant staff shortages, the hotel had to rely on the few staff remaining to take on the lion’s share of work and attend to customers’ needs. Heebok was incomparably professional, and several people we met during our stay agreed. We’ve rarely seen someone work so hard, under difficult circumstances (not-to-mention high heat) across a huge resort, while constantly maintaining a pleasant and friendly demeanour. Not once did we see him without a smile on his face or a friendly word. He’s a treasure and should serve as an example to 5-star establishments as to what excellent service is. Thank you, Heebok; you made our week and we give you 6 stars! We hope you’re valued and recognised as a hard-working professional with a lovely temperament and attitude towards your work that many could learn from.

Considering they were short of staff due to COVID, the Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas were absolutely fantastic. From Mike the hotel manager, Maddy at reception to Heebok floating around the pool area delivering snacks, the staff were brilliant, extremely accommodating and friendly. This has been our first family holiday to Port Douglas and it certainly wont be a last. The resort itself catered for all our needs, and most importantly entertaining for our children!!!

Avoid during covid My partner and I stayed here as a treat for two nights. We were advised before check-in that room service would not be provided due to covid. Despite this information, we were not too bothered given that we were only staying two nights. The resort itself is average, the rooms are slightly dated but big enough for two. The pool is probably the nicest part of the resort. However here are the issues: - two hour wait for expensive and average food (maybe not an issue if there are decent restaurants in port Douglas but every restaurant is booked out or closed due to covid so you have no choice). - massage service unavailable: I tried to book the massage service provided at the resort but no one picked up my call or called me back until the following day. - no room service - golf course: my partner wanted to play golf and the staff member advised him that there were no golf balls left… All in all, don’t stay here during covid it’s not worth the price.

Dear jaxstix2, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay here at the Resort, and we are pleased to hear that you enjoyed our lovely lagoon pools. However, it sounds like your recent stay fell far below our typical standard, and for that we sincerely apologize. As it sounds like you understand, due to ongoing changes and government redirections surrounding COVID19 a number of unforeseen challenges regarding staffing levels have arisen that we are working hard to face and rectify. We hope that you choose to stay with us again in the future so that we may have the opportunity to turn your impressions around. Sincerely, The Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort Port Douglas Team

Hi we have been here since the 29th December. Due to covid the hotel is extremely understaffed. We currently are not receiving room service as the hotel does not have staff. We are having to ask for towels, and bedding and make the beds ourselves. Which I don’t mind but what I does disappoint me is that we have paid a premium price to stay here over 8k, the hotel is not 5 star at all. Room service takes up to 2 hours to get food. I feel for the staff as they are having to deal with so many unhappy visitors, the hotel should not be taking in any more guests if they can’t service. I would advise not to come here at this time.
