Nestled near a serene beach, the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort in Port Douglas captivates some travelers with its tranquil gardens and impressive pool. However, opinions are divided as reviewers commend the spacious rooms but criticize their outdated appearance and soundproofing.
The resort's ambiance and amenities receive mixed feedback due to occasional noisy events and extra charges. While the location earns high marks, guests frequently question the value, pointing out overpriced services and inconsistent cleanliness and service, which can mar the overall experience.

We enjoyed a lovely 4 day break at the Sheraton The beautiful pools and gardens stand out as a memorable feature. Location directly on the stunning 4 Mile beach meant we enjoyed walking the beach including the 20 mins into town for dinner... perfect for sunset. The room was nicely renovated and larger than I expected. Breakfast overlooking the pool was very enjoyable and whilst there’s no buffet we really enjoyed the watermelon starter, choices on the al a carte menu and having the table service.
The pool bar is a popular afternoon spot and we enjoyed the acoustic guitar and singer on Saturday afternoon. Pool bar staff could be a bit more aware of those sitting at the pool bar wanting to order.
COVID-19 has definitely impacted occupancy but I felt there was still enough people for some atmosphere but not too many that you were fighting for a poolside deck chair. Staff are doing a great job overall and we appreciated that they were face masks and there was plenty of hand sanitizer around. The inside Daintree bar and lobby cafe are closed but that’s understandable and didn’t impact our stay.
Overall a lovely relaxing break and we’re glad we chose the Sheraton Grand Mirage.

We had the most fabulous stay, we enjoy 8 nights, the room was very clean and surprisingly spacious. We had the breakfast package, so if you like a good breakfast this is well worth the additional cost. The staff were fantastic, Heebrok really stood out, he served us coffee every morning with the biggest smile and just exudes warmth he made you feel good, a great way to start each day.
There are water station everywhere around the resort that provide cold and sparkling water on tap to fill up your bottles, just fantastic we used this service all the time.
We could not have picked a better location, the resorts lagoon pools were unbelievable and being right on the beach front was amazing for long walks and a swimming area close by.
We will defiantly be returning.

We stayed here for a week from the 13th Dec and found the place really good.
The place looked very impressive as you enter the hall towards receptions where we were greeted by a friendly staff member and checked us in.
Started with waiting a long time for our luggage to arrive at our room and then an issue with the luggage however the manager on duty (Graham) was very apologetic and eventually got it sorted so that was much appreciated.
The rooms including bathroom was tidy and clean. I really like how they give you an incentive of $10 if you opt out of house-keeping for the day so we did that every second day. It's optional.
The many pools were fantastic and so clean. We were in one of those rooms where you could swim into the pool and it was really good to have that especially at night if you wanted to go for a quick dip and then rinse off in your own shower.
We also used one of those Cabanas and they were pretty cool! Sometimes it was hard to order drinks as staff didn't come over very frequently but once they did, drinks were delivered on time and straight to our hands.
Breakfast was good with lots of selection (hot/cold). Go early as towards 10am it gets a little busy but you'll still get a table.
We also went down to an area towards the beach. They had Mexican Night where they served tacos, coronas and margaritas which was so fun! I can see this becoming quite popular so more space/chairs would be good.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay because we were on holidays! Definitely come back!

The grounds are amazing, the pools are well kept and there is loads of space in the pools. Unfortunately that is the only good thing about this resort.
The service here is poor which isn’t fitting with the price paid to stay here. The bar staff ignore customers, drinks take a long time to arrive around 20-30 minutes on average! Ordered chips at the pool bar and canceled the order after over an hour of waiting would have been faster to go into town to buy them. Calling reception is frustrating as your often left on hold or even hung up on, there only appeared to be two people working at reception which meant long waits for check in and check out. No one cleaned the room the first two nights we stayed, we called to ask for toiletries they never came and end up just asking a cleaner in the hallway. I don’t feel the price was fair for the quality of service the staff seemed really unhappy.
The baggage and shuttle people were so friendly and helpful they really carried the team.

My best friend and I stayed here at the Sheraton thinking it’s a 5 star resort as we paid 5 star prices.
First day we got here we got told pool with swimup bar was being repaired and out of service. So we were unable to use it. Staff also told us we would have no trouble to find seating by the pools.
Next day, room service did not come clean our room. I called late afternoon asking for the room to be made up, they said they would send someone up straight away. 2 hours later it still hadn’t been made up so I had to call again, and request it be made up. At 630pm our room was made up.
One morning I ordered coffee from the Lagoon bar. It took the barista 3 attempts to make the correct coffee, and was worst coffee. I had coffee a few times throughout the resort and it was never good but this time was by far the worst.
It was difficult to get seating by pool unless you want to pay $80 to sit in a reserved area by the pool.
The last night we ordered room service. 2 hours later it still hadn’t turned up . We had to call guest services and they hadn’t even put the order through and this was close to 10pm so by time dinner arrived to our room it was very late.
One of the pool bars stops serving food at 430pm, leaving only 2 other options, both of which are expensive and had trouble getting into but the food is nice.
When we booked the hotel it said free shuttle into port Douglas. This is not the case, it’s $11 for a return trip each time you want to go in unless you buy unlimited day passes.
The pools by the pool access rooms are wade pools so not worth the extra money for a pool access room.
On a positive the grounds are pretty, the rooms are nice and the bed is comfortable.
The service is not good and I definitely would not recommend paying double the price for a room here to stay here in high season.

We stayed at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Port Douglas for three nights towards the end of the school holidays and had a relaxing, enjoyable time. We found the layout of the hotel to be stunning and so beautifully maintained. It was our first visit to this resort but it was clear that the buildings had been renovated but this has been completed tastefully and thoughtfully. We loved our room in the North Wing on the third level overlooking the lagoon. We found all staff to be welcoming, friendly, professional and helpful. Although there were many children staying at the hotel when we were there and, in fact, we were told that the hotel was at 96% capacity, we never felt overcrowded when walking around as it is so spacious. We did have a couple of issues, however,, which were disappointing given the very expensive nature of this hotel and its outstanding reputation. When we arrived at around 4pm, we tried to book in for breakfast the next day but there was only 6:45 available. We then tried for the next day with only 7:15 and 9:15 available. This was clearly due to the number of guests staying at that time but it was very frustrating for us. It's as if you need to stay several days to be able to book in for breakfast at a time of your choice or else it will totally book out. Also, we had difficulty parking in an area closest to the North Wing. This was frustrating too. With regard to housekeeping, it was completed satisfactorily but we were not given adequate soap nor towels......no bath mat on the 3rd night. Again, for such a highly rated hotel, this was disappointing We had our own hire car so were fine with regard to eating arrangements but, from what we saw on the menu, meals seemed to be at quite inflated prices. The shuttle bus looked to be frequent as we saw it often in the main street (Macrossan Street) when we were dining there but we thought that it was complementary and I only discovered that it wasn't from another review. With the hotel 3km out of the town, it would be absolutely necessary to get this shuttle bus at least once if a guest did not have a car. My personal opinion is that there should be no charge for this given the cost to stay. Despite these small details, we had a most enjoyable time and would definitely return.....probably at a quieter time when staff and facilities were not so stretched.

I’m a Bonvoy gold member who stayed 4 nights in a large lagoon access room from the 14th to the 18th of July. The room is nice and the pools and beach are beautiful.
What really let this hotel down was the service. Whilst COVID restrictions made things more challenging it was the lack of preparation on their part that resulted in the poor service - all other hotels and restaurants in the area were amazing despite COVID restrictions.
They are woefully prepared in the restaurant. They ask you to book for breakfast but that doesn’t do anything to stop waiting in line for 30 minutes to then have a cold meal, for them to forgot your coffee and not bring you any table water. At lunch I waited over an hour for a burger despite being one of only 8 people eating.
We paid for a poolside bungalow - no one ever came by for drinks or to ask us anything. I’d suggest that people just take the bungalows instead of paying, no one will ever ask you anyway.
Based on the price we paid I wouldn’t recommend the hotel. At maybe $250 a night it would be worth it. Definitely do not pay for breakfast or eat at the hotel - do yourself a favour and drive into town. The Mexican and Thai restaurants are fabulous.

This was our 4th time in 21 years, and I would say I wouldn’t come back, as a SPG Marriott member for 30years this would have to be the worst experience.i usually don’t comment on much but I had to on this occasion. Firstly when we arrived 1 out of 2 rooms was ready, I was informed as soon as the second was ready I’ll get a call, we’ll we waited till 6pm and no call , when I called guest services told me , sorry we have been busy, come up to reception and collect your room card , when I asked can you drop it to the room , I was told they were short on staff.
The next morning, New Year’s Day we were all given notices slipped under the door about a $10 vouchers for credit as the room cleaning staff were short staff and would not clean our rooms, REALY , 5 star price but 2 star service with a insult.
The next day we came back to our room at 530pm and noticed our room hadn’t been serviced on calling the apologized and said they would have someone over shortly, we’ll I got back at 7 after dinner and the rooms weren’t done, I called again , this time they arrived with towels .i asked what about my room service ? , he said sorry sir did the other person not come.....
Restaurant staff in the Feast main restaurant were understaffed , even one of the main girls at the desk said , A lot of people are complaining, my previous visits when you arrived at the restaurant, you were taken to your seat, you were asked if you want coffee or a drink, the tables had cutlery, this time you had to find seats, clean your own table you found and then stand in line to get a coffee, not happy ,
The pool area is getting quite old, tiles are falling off the borderline , sections are painted different Colour’s to hide the ones that have falling off over the years. Bat service was dreadful, watered down drinks , 1 hour for food if you were lucky, untrained staff.
To be brutally honest, it feels to me that management have taken a lot of short cuts and there is no training to new staff
The place is under staffed.
The problem starts at the top GM down need to be cleaned out.
Please don’t respond back with the same text you do to all the unhappy guests,
I’m sure the reading public are not stupid

We stayed for 8 nights which was a decent amount of time to relax and unwind. Upon arrival the reception looked lovely and we were greeted by the friendly reception lady. However she didn’t really give us any information about the resort eg, we needed to book for breakfast daily. It was not an issue when we did arrive to breakfast as the resort wasn’t that busy but if it was peak time we may not have been seated. The breakfast menu was good but needed to have a few different options, maybe a couple of daily specials. The staff at breakfast were lovely but not very efficient, tables left uncleared and then had to be wiped down and set before seating us, again not peak time so i don’t know how they cope during busy times. Breakfast did come to the table very fast and was delicious each time. The pools were great the only thing i would say is that the main pool needs a bit of work (tiles falling off and paint on the bottom peeling off).
On our second night we were told at 10:30pm that we would have to move rooms as our fire detector was faulty, we were upgraded to a pool view room and given a complimentary cheese plate the next day, that was a lovely touch and I’m relieved to know they check things like the fire detectors functioning. We didn’t eat at the restaurants (other than breakfast as it was included in our stay) as it was a bit pricey for us (2 adults and 2 adultish kids).
Overall we had a lovely time at the resort and in Port Douglas, we would recommend this hotel.

We stayed for 5 nights in a garden view room, beautiful views and I would definately stay again. The pools are amazing and most of the time we had 2 large pool areas all to ourselves, saltwater at perfect temperature. Location is beautiful, not far from town and right in the beach, we were advised not to swim on the beach because of stingers and crocodiles. Room service was great but pricey eg $6 for coffee that wasnt that great. Staff were very friendly and accomodating. Rooms were clean and comfortable. The Ac was loud and took a while to cool the room. Only downside is we didnt have anywhere to dry our bathers which would of been handy.
