Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Felt like we were in road works. Caution tape blocking off areas. Wood rotting, paint pealing, sandbags holding the lining down in the pool...and that was just the veiw from breakfast... This place has really gone down in the last 3yrs, very disappointing 😞

Providing the highest level of hospitality is our number one priority and I sincerely apologize for failing to meet your expectations, especially with regards to the small section of pool near the feast breakfast room. This area has a small section of lining that has come up and is planned for urgent repairs as soon as we are able to combine both weather and contractors. I do hope that we are able to welcome you back to the hotel sometime in the future once these works have been completed so please reach out directly and I will be more then happy to assist and make sure your stay in most enjoyable. After reading some of the negative comments around this property I thought that I might add in our experience here. We stayed here for 3 nights for our 10 year wedding anniversary. We stayed in a King Garden view room (5212). The room was very big with a king bed, day bed and small coffee table and chairs. The bed was very comfortable with great pillows. All the decor was lovely fresh and clean. The pools surrounding the property are amazing and are lovely to swim in. We ate at the deck one night for dinner and the food and service was fantastic overlooking the main pool. You could literally stay at this property and not leave as there are 4 dining options, magnificent pools and the beach is only 50m away. We caught the bus into town most days and it was $13 return and it was very efficient as you just call them and they come straight away. There are some areas of the property that could do with some paint but certainly nothing to put you off from going there. If you are looking for a nice place in Port Douglas we highly recommend this place and we will be back.

Sadly, the hotel staff aren’t friendly and accomodating at all. As a Bonvoy Gold, received no recognition, no upgrade, no late check out and when special requests were put in for pillows they weren’t fulfilled. The loyalty team here say one thing and do differently to what they say. Sad as the property is a nice property, but first impressions last. I’d probably stay elsewhere next time due to this experience. Had a surprise planned for our wedding anniversary and this also turned up late after having to ask for it again. After stressing our concerns to loyalty team, they just stopped replying. They don’t make you feel valued here at all, just another guest paying a high rate for the privilege of staying at a nice hotel.

Dear robertwilliams9, Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience while staying with us. Your experience of Marriott Bonvoy member benefits and acknowledgement is below our standard. We appreciate your feedback as an opportunity to grow and improve in our service. We have records of your anniversary which was noted with thanks prior to arrival and successfully acknowledged on second day as your arrival followed a very late one. Unfortunately, we can't let amenities sitting for an extended time in the tropics. We apologise for not meeting your expectations during your stay as a valuable Gold Elite member. Unluckily, Marriott Bonvoy policies have changed for members coming part of a conference/group. thus, benefits are not on place when this occurs. Nevertheless, we were happy to continue offering our assistance from the Loyalty Team. Should your travels bring you back to the area, do not hesitate to let us know in advance so we can assist to also enhance all your benefits during your next stay. Sincerely, Sheraton Port Douglas.

I am providing the benefit of the doubt on this property as 4.25 or 4.5 is likely the more appropriate ranking, but I believe that everything that was requested was carried out and therefore can find no fault in the hotel. As other have said, the hotel is more of a resort in that it is a short distance from the town of Port Douglas. This was originally a detractor to me, but as it turned out was an excellent choice. If you do not have a vehicle, it may make more sense to stay closer to the town, but it was an easy 4 minute drive and there was ample free parking in town. We were in town every day, either for dinner, the marina or the markets, so it was lovely to be slightly removed and more isolated in the evenings. The accommodations are certainly not new, but perfectly acceptable and the swim out lagoon room was quite nice. The staff were very helpful and issues (like air conditioning) were responded to very promptly. Again, I think that a mid-4 ranking is more appropriate, but they worked diligently to deal with any issues and were very helpful during our stay. Ultimately this may not be the right choice for everyone, but there are certainly great benefits to staying here and we very much enjoyed our four night stay. As an additional note, I struggled with choosing between Port Douglas and Cairns for our stay and can say that I was thrilled with the choice of Port Douglas.

HI Paul B, Thankyou for taking the time to provide your feedback on a recent stay with us. I am concerned to hear that your experience was not up to your expectations and that you had an issue with your lock. This is not the standard that we strive for and for that I am sorry. I do hope that one day we are able to welcome you back to the resort and you are able to experience what we are best known for.

We got a really good deal with Jetstar Holidays, when we looked at the individual prices of our Sheraton room and flights, the total price we paid was the price of the room only so we basically got the flights free. I’m not sure though if I’d stay again for full price - while the resort was amazing, we did have a problem with our 1st room (leaking aircon, that made some of out stuff wet) and we had to move to another room (& waited a bit for that process to complete!). Other than this minor inconvenience, everything was great - food at all the restaurants were amazing and amenities were good (just very busy with family with kids and that wasn’t even school holiday period). It’s a little bit far to the main town and the part of the beach that’s patrolled so this is a great place if you only want to stay at the resort.

The hotel location and accommodation was excellent only minutes walk from 4 mile beach and mirage country club golf course. All staff were very friendly and approachable but for me Pearce & Ciara who worked at Lagoon House really stood they were extremely helpful and informative about the hotel and all that he had to offer 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Overall a great experience. Feast a great place to eat. Suggestions- nowhere at all to sit in the beautiful gardens!!!!! How about some tables and chairs? Felt trapped on the second and third floors. Cabanas ridiculously priced - $50/day much more sensible and they would be filled, not 1/4 full which looks poor. Many thanks to the great staff on the desk who were very helpful. One staff member from Argentina, Eric, went out of his way to make this a really great holiday due to his willingness to help!

Staff were amazing, from hotel check in to poolside drinks service to restaurant service to the people cleaning the rooms each day. Very efficient all round. When they found out it was our Honeymoon, they arranged for a plate of sweet treats to congratulate us, so nice of them and much appreciated! The lagoon pools are amazing, we loved these. Never felt very cramped, could always find a pool lounge to sit on. Poolside food menu was slightly off and limited but still good.

An impressive property on a large scale, the public areas are enormous and the hotel has a lovely tropical feel to it. The lagoon pools almost surround the whole hotel, there are multiple different areas plenty of sun beds and a very good poolside ordering for drinks and food via the QR code. Our room was spotless, indeed the whole report felt extremely clean and in good order. Slight weakness is the food and beverage side of things. We had a poor meal in Harrison’s (as did the table next to us). We also had dinner one night at Lagoon House which wasn’t great it felt like the staff wanted to shut down even though it was 8pm? There was no concierge service so we had to arrange all our activities and excursions ourselves, this is a shame for a hotel that lists itself as 5 star. Anyway overall we had a fantastic time, access immediately to 4 mile beach which is impressive.
