My husband and I recently had the opportunity to stay at Niramaya villas for 2 weeks and it was amazing. The gardens are beautiful and the front desk staff were very helpful with booking tours, suggesting restaurants and helping with some printing we needed. Initially we were concerned with the resort being 5 kms from town and not close to the beach. The end of 5 mile beach is a short walk straight out of the resort and to get around you have access to multiple local shuttle services ($4-5 per person per trip). We used the shuttle daily and the longest wait we experienced was 10 minutes. Within walking distance you have an IGA grocery store, bottle shop and fish shop.

Our Balinese style villa was beautifully designed, the gardens were perfectly maintained and our heated private plunge pool was a bonus. We had our sliding doors opened most of the day and didn’t see many insects. We only went to the resort pool a few times. It’s a quiet place with walking trails and the sounds of nature. Once we went to happy hour at the resort bar but we didn’t get to the restaurant. The villas have substantial kitchens with plenty of crockery, pots and pans and cutlery. We had an easy to use outdoor teppanyaki style BBQ. There was no shortage of fluffy towels and the L’Occitan bath products were a nice treat. Our WiFi was excellent, no problems doing my Zoom meetings. The large screen TV was connected to surround sound speakers that I’ve already checked into purchasing for our home. The price may seem high for this resort compared to some others in Port Douglas but the experience is well worth the price. It’s a holiday I will remember for a long time and I’m already working on my husband to go back.

Room Tip: Each villa has garage parking. The plunge pool in the villa had a childproof fence and gate.

Niramaya Villas is beautiful. Lush tropical gardens surrounding our Balinese inspired villa. We had villa 62 which has the private plunge pool overlooking the resort lake - very nice outlook. The only negative I can say is Chapter One restaurant was fairly disappointing. Our package included breakfast daily - we struggled to find anything nice to say about any meal. If it wasn’t for the fact that we weren’t paying for the food each morning we wouldn’t have gone back. A much better option is to grab a shuttle bus into town and there’s plenty of better choices. Overall we loved our stay - very relaxing week. We would go back. If the restaurant improved it would be perfect.

We stayed at Niramaya for 7 nights and had enough opportunity to try out everything. I give it 4 stars based on the steep price point, otherwise it’s a 5.

Overall the resort and villa is beautiful and has a tropical feel like Bali. However it does not have the “luxury”or “expensive” feel I expected for the price point, in comparison to similar luxury resorts I have stayed in Hawaii. So don’t expect welcome cocktails or cold towels or 24 hour service or a human concierge.

Other opportunities for improvement:

We planned a BBQ night at our villa and shopped for groceries and all that, only to find out that it didn’t work. There’s no service after 4-5pm (emergency only) so they didn’t fix it until the next day at which point it was too late. They should check all appliances regularly after every guest. I understand labor costs are higher in Australia but a luxury resort should figure something out.

The bedroom AC is too weak. It starts cooling the room only after the sun goes down at full power and also with the ceiling fan spinning at top speed and the bathroom door closed. Room temperature is OK after midnight only. Not acceptable at a luxury hotel. (northern Queensland is HOT)

Freezer runs out of ice after about 20 ice cubes even with the express freeze option. They did a mid week cleaning but didn’t clean the dishes.

The $50 daily credit is nice but off peak season restaurant closes by 3pm and there’s no dinner so every day you have to decide what you want by 3pm, for last order. The pool menu food is good but limited - mostly pizzas (yummy though) and a grazing board that does NOT have cheese. Go figure.

We stayed for 3 nights short holiday within Australia. First getaway after borders opened during covid. The property is immaculate and the scenery very nice however there was definitely some major problems. First i think it's really weird that the properties don't get any house keeping during the stay. I usually stay at 5 Star resorts round the world and when your at a property of this calibre you would expect it to be cleaned daily. The villas are all self contained so there is a washing machine and mop etc but when I'm on holiday I don't want to be washing my towels everyday. Due to covid we had to order all meals through an app even for breakfast and the in room dining finished at 6pm which o thought was odd because pretty much you can't order dinner. Luckily we are the type of ppl who like to dine out so we caught the shuttle every night to town which was great. the shuttle is $5.00 a head and ran until 1am which was great.
The property itself is very nice and the villas are huge the bed is not very comfortable and also there is lots of noise in the morning from the birds and ducks and the curtains are not proper in the room so light comes in the morning.
Our pool was also not heated on arrival like many previous reviewers mentioned we called a few days before to remind them and when we got there it was not heated and also broken they sent someone to fix it the next day and then took another 24 hours to heat so pretty much 2/3 days of our stay we could not use the pool.
So I think while it's very nice and pretty and scenic I probably wouldn't stay again as I prefer service and practical things like being able to order a late night meal or having my room cleaned...

Our villa was positioned extremely close to a major roundabout. Trucks, cars and motorbikes. During the day we had the air conditioning on to drown out the noise in the living areas.. However, in the morning the noise woke us up very early. As a result ear plugs were purchased. No exactly what you want when you go to an upmarket resort specialising in peace and relaxation. The breakfasts provided were not all that great. Salt shakers were invariably empty. The hotel did not have our booking in place and on arrival we were told we were not expected. We were required to leave for some time and return later after a room was prepared. What should have been an excellent stay, we were let down. The resort itself is of a high standard and the villa very comfortable (apart from the noise) and very well equipped. Perhaps our villa should not be in the rental pool especially given the high end cost.

The villas themselves are luxurious and private. They come with separate living, dining and cooking areas, as well as your own pool. They are the perfect place to relax in privacy. Located on the outskirts of Port Douglas, you are afforded a quiet location in which to enjoy yourself.

However, these are luxurious villas that are slightly let down by the "little things". They may seem minor, but when you are paying over $1000 a day to stay there, I believe they should be given consideration.
* 4 coffee pods we provided and not replenished. The alternative was instant coffee or tea from an unknown brand that tasted awful. It may sound trivial, but surely the coffee pods could be topped occasionally.
* The breakfast service was always slow. Even if you wanted toast and coffee, it took an hour. Also, quite often, items on the menu were unavailable, which was a little frustrating.
* Housekeeping came only once during the entire week-long stay

However, in contrast, the staff at the front desk and in the restaurant were all very friendly, competent, and pleasant to deal with. I am not sure I would come back here again purely on a value for money proposition. The venue itself is great, but I feel it needs to work on the extras to ensure the luxury service matches the cost of the accommodation.

Hi PaulrY3567WK, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review of your stay and your kind words regarding the villas and our wonderful staff. We would also like to thank you for bringing our attention to the 'little things' as we are aware that it completes the picture or our luxury accommodation. Should our reception team have been made aware that you required more coffee pods we would have been more than happy to provide this to you. Our restaurant team has been working very hard to accommodate the large number of dine in guests and we will take your feedback onboard to help improve our services wherever possible. Our self contained villas are serviced once over a 5 night stay as a complimentary mid stay service. We are able to add daily services to your reservation at an additional cost. Alternatively if extra towels or amenities are required, our reception team would have been more than happy to help. We would like to thank you again for your feedback and we look forward to a time where we may be able to welcome you back to our resort as soon as possible. Kindest regards, The Niramaya Team

We stayed here on new years eve for 3 nighs, very confusing staff on check in re restaurant opening hours, told to book for lunch and dinner if required as very busy, had $50 day voucher to use at restaurant as part of our $3600 for 3 nights stay- thats right, for 2 people. The dining/kitchen was full of ants, the pool was dirty, day lounge near pool full of ants nest and crap everywhere. I did complain, went to have lunch one day and was going to book dinner for that night but girl at restaurant said it wasnt open, upon me sending email complaining about everything they left message stating we could have a meal their for dinner on the house, sadly due to lack of service with phone there I didnt get message until too late but when I told reception that we had lunch and paid for drinks etc she said she would fix it up but it never got fixed. We assumed like most places there that you would get daily towel change etc but no, on reading their book or rules if you wanted that or even an extra pool towel or supplies you had to pay. Not even a power point near any table or lounge, had to sit on floor to plug computer into only power point under TV, all electrical appliances werent even tested and tagged which is a concern. Would never ever stay there again, total rip off

We are staying at Niramaya for the second time, although first time we stayed in a villa owned privately and not managed by the resort. The accommodation is lovely and the setting as beautiful as the photographs suggest. You will not be disappointed when you arrive.

Unfortunately, the multiple comments on here concerning the service at the restaurant are correct. We are staying here at the moment and went over for breakfast at 8am, as we had commitments at 9am. With one other table seated in the restaurant, they said that there would be a 1 hour wait before we could be seated. When I pointed out that the restaurant was almost empty, he said that they go by bookings and cannot physically book anyone else at this time to 'avoid the restaurant becoming overwhelmed'. I asked whether we could sit at one of the tables just outside the restaurant, and he said that would be fine but they would not serve us food there, only coffee. I asked whether we could have food delivered to the villa. He said yes, but only at lunch. When I said that would mean we would miss breakfast this morning, he recommended that we book for future sittings.

I did not get the impression that the staff member was trying to be rude - it just seems they have a very rigid system, that they apply regardless of the circumstances. The restaurant could be empty (as it nearly was in this case), and they would still not sit you.

The restaurant is also not opened for dinner, and they stop serving drinks at the bar at about 4pm.

It is a beautiful location and has the potential to be a great resort. But having a single restaurant on site that is operated in this way will keep us away in the future. There are many other beautiful resorts in North Queensland that do not have these problems.

Decided to support another local restaurant and went there for breakfast. When we arrived we were the only customers and shown to our table. After 5 minutes I had to go to the counter and ask for menus. The waiter brought them and we ordered immediately ( tea, coffee, mains) After 20 minutes our beverages arrived and I asked the waitress if they had to send out for them and she replied that she was on her own and there were so many orders and that she was sorry for the delay and I was welcome to make a complaint at the front desk (I think she has said this before).
More customers were being seated and after another 20 minutes a table that had come in behind us were served their breakfasts before us. When asked how this could happen, I was informed that they had ordered from their room!
Another 20 minutes passed before we finally got our breakfasts together with another apology for being slow as the kitchen was swamped ( I counted 4 tables)
To add insult to injury, my partners poached eggs were stone cold!
Don't bother.

We stayed at Niramaya Villas for a family holiday, in 3 separate villas. All the villas were well appointed in the Balinese style and provided comfort and privacy. Each of our villas had 3 double bedrooms each with a bathroom, and a 4th separate toilet. Each villa had an enclosed garage, well-equipped kitchen and laundry and an outside eating area with a barbecue. There is a 25m resort pool, which was fine for lap swimming; it had few sun lounges and umbrellas, but we preferred the privacy of the day bed, sun lounges and plunge pool at our villa. Staff shortages meant our villa was serviced only mid-week for each week of our stay. The restaurant was not open for dinner, but there are sufficient good dining options in Port Douglas for this not to be a problem.. The breakfast menu was small, but had everything we wanted and also offered breakfast ingredients delivered to our villa for the next morning. All the food and drinks were good and the coffee was excellent. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The Spa was also very good - the massages were excellent. Highly recommended.

Our property here at Niramaya Villas and Spa is mostly on ground level with the majority of our villas being single story. Our Grand Master villas have an elevated upstairs master bedroom and do not have elevators.

Each villa has a washing machine and dryer for personal use, but not sure about dry cleaning services. Perhaps email the hotel? Port Douglas is pretty casual, so you won’t need too many dry clean only fabrics (unless you hate ironing linen like me 🤣)

I stayed 5 nights and didn’t receive housekeeping at any stage during my stay (this could be COVID related as I stayed elsewhere during my trip and had the same experience).
