Our family had a absolute ball staying aloft Port Douglas. Whilst the apartment is somewhat dated, like 1990’s style - don’t let that sway your stay. The apartment was clean, well appointed and enjoys cracking views out over the Daintree, mountains and ocean. The complex also includes a large inground pool and tennis court. Finally, the short bit steep walk down to the Main Street of town is a bonus - being close to bars, restaurants and supermarkets. Great spot

After much debate, we chose to spend our week in Port Douglas instead of Cairns. We thought it might have been much simpler to just stay in Cairns, but it was so worth the effort! It is an hour from Cairns, so we had to hire a transport. The drive itself was an amazing coastal drive. We spent 3 weeks in Australia and visited 4 places. While each place was uniqe and enjoyable, we LOVED our time in Port. It is a layed back port village in the rainforest. It was also very convenient for tours as most leave from Port Douglas. We went on a Great Barrier Reef diving tour and a Daintree Rainforest and river cruise. Both tours are something not to be missed.
There are so many places to stay in Port that it was a really difficult decision. There aren't many 'chain' hotels, which is part of the charm. Many had kitchens and laundry facilities. Don't bother with an oceanfront - they just don't exist. There is a row of trees along the beach, so unless you are up on a 3rd floor, you won't be able to see the beach. I don't care if I'm on the beach, but a view is an absolte must for me. We found the perfect place for us. It was The Point Apartments at 3 Murphy St. It's 1 block north of Macrossan (the main street that has shops and restaurants), 1-2 blocks from the marina, and about 3 blocks from 4-mile beach. Because the apartments are set up on a hill, some apartments have a spectacular view of the water, mountains, and rainforest. We stayed in #9 and it had 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room with big screen television, furnished kitchen, and large deck with view. It was clean and modern and very convenient to restaurants, shopping, beach, etc.., but be warned, walking the 1 block up the hill with groceries is challenging.
The town itself is charming - no McDonalds or Starbucks here. But it is packed with quaint local restaurants, bakeries, and coffee shops. There are some T-shirt and souvenier shops, but most of the shops are artists shops or upscale merchandise. On Sunday afternoons, there is a huge outdoor market where you can get about anything: produce, jewelry, clothing, pictures, etc. Everything sold at market must be grown, made, or created by the people selling it. A fun evening activity is the Cane Toad Race at the Iron Bar. It is hard to describe, just don't miss it. It is a hilariously fun time and something you will never EVER see anywhere else. Take the kids, too. They love it! The beach is absolutely spectacular and not crowded. While you are walking on the beach, you can't see much of the hotels through the trees so you feel like you are in a very remote area.
I can't say enough about this place, but it is a tropical paradise that the only thing you will be sorry about it having to leave!

A quality small complex in the heart of Port. Close to shops and a nice stroll to the beach along Murphy Street. Modern, smallish kitchen, large bedrooms, two bathrooms and great deck with a view of the sunset. Unfortunately no cable tv for the kids, but hey, they're on hols and watch too much tv anyway!

You need to be fit to rent here. it's uphill and there are many steps to the apartment and to the pool area. It was clean but missing essentials like a Nespresso coffee maker. Towel rails fell off and the taps didn't quite reach the basin. The kitchen is well out of date and definitely not equipped for cooks. A barbecue outside was handy. Terribly basic for the price.

We booked through Ray White Port Douglas, and stayed in apartment number 7.
Positives: - Very close to town and within walking distance to marina and beach. - nice views out of all windows. - Spacious apartment with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. - Surrounded by well kept tropical gardens. - Great pool, especially for kids. Some pool toys available. - Airconditioning - Full kitchen - Washing machine and dryer
Negatives: - A very noisy generator located 15 (or so) metres from the balcony. Apparently this is just a temporary arrangement to power nearby ‘Club Tropical Resort’. The generator ran 24/7 and made sitting on the deck un-enjoyable. We found it irritating and couldn’t relax outside, or enjoy listening to birds etc. If you’re thinking about staying here make sure you ask the agent if the generator is still there, we were not told before booking, which was disappointing. Families staying in other apartments had the same complaint, one of which was relocated as it was so annoying. - Mould on/in the airconditioning units. - Lots of cockroaches running around, during our week long stay we found 8 large cockroaches. - Missing wheels under the bed base in main bedroom. This made the bed uneven and we got sore backs from it. - No BBQ - No blind across the back windows/sliding door. The lounge room was full of blaring hot sun in the afternoons. - No Foxtel - No wifi
Not necessarily a negative for us, but there’s loads of steep hills and stairs to walk up and down to access the property. Could be an issue for elderly, prams etc.

Lovely group of apartments on the hill above the main shopping and restaurant area, Macrossan Street. About 30 years old and was a little surprised the railings down to the pool were rotten. They were quickly attended to by the accommodation manager and temporarily repaired - but the body corporate should have been more diligent in repairing this. Garaging for each apartment and the apartment spacious, lovely views and made for a lovely stay. There are lots of outside stairs down to some apartments, pool and tennis court. It is a hill property. Gardens are beautifully maintained.

We stayed in number 8 and had organised this through Ulysses rentals. Although we paid plenty for the apartment we were thrilled with how well equipped it was and the stunning view. The little extras were appreciated too. These included cleaning products, tennis rackets, beach toys and a bottle of bubbly along with fresh flowers. nice touches! The terrace was the perfect place to eat all of our meals during our 11 night stay. The pool was cool and clean and refreshing. It is in town so there is some music noise but you are on holiday and this adds to the atmosphere. Would recommend.

We stayed at number 6. Good value for money. Had everything we needed. Great location and is a short yet quite steep walk up from Main Street so something to be aware of if travelling with less mobile friends/family. Apartment had everything including tennis rackets and balls. The pool was great. It could do with some more deckchairs but we always got one. Can hear music from main st at night but once we closed windows this didn't affect us. Would stay again.

We stayed n appt no 11. A lovely stand alone apartment. 2 bedrooms with two bathrooms, ensuite to main bedroom. Shower over full bath in main. Beautiful view if the marina, hills and 'ocean'. Very comfortable, however air conditioning not up to the September 'heat'. You wouldn't want to stay here over summer, ceiling fans wouldn't cope. Comfortable stroll to the Main Street for cafés, restaurants, shopping and groceries etc. great BBQ, full kitchen and decking to entertain. Beautifully maintained tropical garden surrounding tennis court and swimming pool. Would stay again, but would try a different appt. If you are looking for location you can't go past 3 Murphy street.

This apartment is actually more spacious than in the photos. We were met by the very helpful Matt from Port Douglas Getaways on our arrival. This apartment (#4) has everything: beach chairs, tennis racquets (2 adults, 2 junior), plenty of towels (pool & bath), plus a few oils, vinegars, sauce etc, great magazines, fabulous BBQ, and a great orientation with different outdoor spots to catch the sun from sunrise to sunset! We highly recommend apartment 4!
