After having some last minute flight cancellations, we found ourselves needing a night's accommodation in Cairns. Our flight arrived late in the evening, so we wanted something reasonable just to get a good night's sleep.

The price was fantastic and the room was more than adequate for our stay.
The hotel clearly communicated the after-hours check-in procedures and we found our key and made it to our room very quickly and easily. The bed was comfortable and the room was quite large with self-contained amenities for those seeking a longer stay.

We enjoyed a chat with staff at reception in the morning, they were so very friendly and only too happy to help.

My only feedback would be to please clean the fans in the room, there was quite a lot of built up dust on them. Not a deal breaker for us (we are in the tropics) but something worth mentioning. The aircon worked great. Thanks for a nice stay :)

I'll start off by saying that the customer service was amazing and the location of the hotel was very convenient, with shopping centres and the Esplanade very close by.

However, walking in to our room was disappointing as there was this bad smell, like deodorant that wasn't doing its job properly. The room was pretty and the pool looked very clean, however the single bed wasn't steadied and would move around with you when you fidgeted in the bed (it was on wheels). Leaning on the wall would cause the bed to roll. The main bed was comfy, however the aircon barely worked and so did the wifi. When they cleaned the bathroom, they took away our personal towel. The bed and towels also had stains even though they were "clean". Disappointing, as the hotel had so much potential.

Great location and really lovely + extremely helpful staff! Our room wasn’t 100% clean (needed a better wipe down and dishes properly cleaned), otherwise I would give this 5 stars. The pool, laundry and water pressure however were excellent. If you don’t mind a lack of cleanliness, Reef Palms has everything you need on a bit of a budget!

We arrived and just missed the front desk.Used the emailed instruction for after hours. One of the front staff opened the door and let us in saying they just closed which was nice.We followed her through finally located our room, not well signed.
On the ground floor near back entrance, good spot we thought. The room is a good size.Lounge, table 2 chairs and kitchenette.Lack of detail,no plug for kitchen and detergent for washing up,just a couple of things to chase down. Not a lot of crockery choice either.TV remote no back and not tuned in so can’t use.
Bathroom very old and tired, with mould, leaking tap and unclean tray on vanity.Shower over a triangle bath.
Quite noisey from a park next door, people dragging chairs above and I guess if you dont have a ‘stay in day’ you’ll be ok.
We were given linen on the 4th evening to change as it was doubtful someone would be in to do it.There appears to be no room service for cleaning as we have been asking for more toilet paper and towels as we go along.
The hot water failed on our 2nd day, luckily it got fixed quickly ish so I reminded the manger about our leaking tap, also got fixed.
Free Wifi, only if you stand at the front door and marginal at best.
There is an outdoor court yard which would be nice to sit out in but the table is disgusting with lots of cigarette, smoking marks and dirt.
I guess it has been great at sometime but could be so much better.

Managers and staff at reef palms are lovely and do whatever they can to help you ! The hotel itself is run down ( needs a Reno) but cleanish and value for the price you pay. Gardens , pool area and rooms all need a makeover . Not too far from town and close to the esplanade. If you are on a budget hotel is great , otherwise I would look elsewhere . Stayed here two weeks and all good for the price we paid. Room cleaning is only every 7 days but towels are changed every four. We used
Our own cleaning wipes to keep room and bathroom clean .
. Overall 6 out of 10 . I think the owners could improve this hotel with little money and lots of elbow grease .

This was not the best experience for me. When I booked direct I was asked to provide my credit card details to secure the booking, and on arrival, I was informed my card had been debited the full amount for my 2-night stay!

The next problem was the partying going on until 2 am the next morning in a unit just above mine making sleep near impossible, and then the music started up again at 7 am, and when I returned to the room at 3 pm it was still blasting away.

When I told the manager that afternoon I was checking out early because of this problem, he assured me if I had called him he would have put a stop to this. Now, this isn't a big complex, you would need to be more than half deaf not to have noticed the party. I was called after I had checked out to be offered another room, or a larger room, everything but a refund for the second night I wasn't staying there.

In town on business, will not even consider staying here again.

I booked in for five nights.
Being a woman we get the time of the month, and well mine decided a visit was needed. So I've asked for clean sheets (you know what it is) they said they can't do it and had to sleep with no sheets for the duration of my stay and then get told I had to purchase sheets.
On the website it's says cleaning daily???
Well gotta pay for it even though you already do when you book the room.

Have a nice stay.

Comfortable nights stay at the Reef Palms. Check in was simple as were the arrangements for early morning check out, dropping key into a box. Reef provides self contained rooms with everything needed for a nights stay. The Reef is close to the Esplanade for walking into the city. Taxi to and from the airport approx 10mins.

Stayed here for two nights in May 2024

Pros:
1) The place is a short taxi ride away from the airport and the harbour.
2) The rooms are big and clean
3) The bathroom was spacious as well with all modern ameneties
4) The front desk staff was courteous and helpful
5) There is laundry facility inside the premises.
6) The place is quiet at night and the sleep quality was good.
7) The wifi was free with good speed and connectivity.
8) The hotel has a (paid) shuttle service to the airport.
9) The tariff is cheap.

Cons:
1) The front desk is not staffed 24/7
2) The staff is limited and the rooms get cleaned only every 4 days.
3) The place is far from the main tourist area and restaurants. But there are good bus services.
4) There aren't many eating/shopping options next to the hotel.

We book two rooms I had called a few days prior asking if a two bed room was available he said no and that another room would have to be booked then on arrival we got booked into a room that had two beds in it the manager was pretty rude and stagnant it took about 30 minutes to actually check in as about 2 minutes into him asking what room we were in he turn around mid checking us in and started talking to the cleaners who had come in about there next shift without excusing himself. He handed us the paper work and ask which one we were which was a total breach of privacy to the other people staying there then had to ask again cause he couldn’t remember which one he had crossed out. We didn’t get shown where our rooms were he just rudely pointed and said room there and there, parking wasn’t explain nothing was explained. One room you couldn’t open the door properly and there was pubes in the shower and hair in the sink the walls were dirty, in the other room there was hair throughout the bathroom and grit on the bed side tables and mould on the ceiling. It states that you have to wash up dishes and that everything was supplied or you would receive a $200 cleaning bill. There was no cleaning equipment and when I went to tell the manager he asked if I would take it back up as I was checking out( I am heavily pregnant) there was only a think blanket to use and no spares in the room. Very disappointed and will definitely not be going back or recommend this place at all to anyone. The curtains also wouldn’t close properly so the sun came right in first thing in the morning. One room the aircon didn’t work properly.

Do I book the airport shuttle or is it hourly and we wait at airport?
Answer from Lyndall G

Hi Andrea - this is a small motel not a large resort so the shuttle runs to a limited timetable.Wr always catch a taxi from the airport TO Reef Palms but book (at least the day before) the free shuttle TO the airport. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Breakfast included is not a cooked breakfast, If breakfast is included in your room rate , you can add a cooked breakfast for an extra $8.00

You can easily call a cab or have it prearranged. The shuttles don't run that early.
