Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We arrived after reception had closed direct from the airport but instructions to get the room key and access to the car park was emailed. Car park is gated which is excellent. Room was well equipped, clean and perfectly adequate, air con was good and the in room safe was free to use. Swimming pool was lovely. Also very useful was the laundry facilities. Our only negative was a small balcony with only one chair but that is the only thing. Hotel is in a great location near to the esplanade and local shops. Very helpful staff and all in all a great place to stay can highly recommend.

We stayed in the two bedroom apartment. Was spacious and had everything we needed including two bathrooms. Close proximity to the cairns esplanade and could walk to everything. Beautiful pool that we swam daily in. Would definitely stay again.

Nice clean room, basic but had everything we needed incl smart tv! Had a ground floor studio appt (which was requested when booked) with a small outdoor space that opened onto the pool/bbq area. Great location. No toiletries supplied except one bar of soap (which we knew about beforehand so took our own), bathroom a little dated but did the job! Cld have done with a towel tail or hooks on back of door to hang our towels but we just used clothes airer instead. Would def stay here again, cant fault value for money!

They shouldn't offer the old disgusting apartments to anyone. I wish I had gone through the 163 photos showing this accommodation. So all the people who have posted positive reviews must have been the lucky one to get an reburb apartment. The kitchen was very old and falling apart. Taps dripped. And really, plastic wine glasses. Ceiling fans had a mind of their own, 2 speeds and sometimes wouldn't turn off. Remote control for air conditioning in both rooms didn't work and needed to be turned off at the wall. Wall light in the bedroom didn't even have a cover, just globe. Lounge needed a clean so I put a towel on it to sit on. Floors needed a vacuum. Balcony (if that's what you call was dirty), and the wardrobe I didn't even put clothes in it. Everything was worn, tidy and old. And we have never stayed any where there is no shampoo/conditioner or body soap, not even enough for one day until you can get to the shops.

Response from , Owner at Cascade Gardens
Responded 16 Mar 2023
Hi Tony, I don't normally respond to reviews as I like guests experiences to tell a story but for you I will make an exception. Firstly I don't make any excuses for a room that has not been cleaned properly. I do however find it a little comical and are a embarrassed on your behalf that you are so petty you get on your hands and knees to take a close up photo of a TV socket and curtain rail with some dust. I spoke with your lovely young wife the day after you checked in and advised that I would be able to move your room once one become available. She was happy with this and nothing more was said until the agreed upon move date. One of the main parts of my job is to ensure guests are happy so I left it at that. Now I realize silly me for listening to her because as you said, 'she doesn't know she's from the Philippines'. I myself have lovely friends from the Philippines and have a great respect and love for the country and their people but anyway maybe I'm the silly one? You where offered a room move, $100 discount and to check out early without penalty (which I suspect suited your needs). Your review is pure mudslinging and I would encourage anyone reading to look at our over 90% positive reviews rather than the odd negative one. I like to think I provide a clean, comfortable and affordable place to stay in Cairns and our reviews prove that we do. I wish you all the best Tony. Sam

To say this place was misrepresented is an understatement. Reading the description, we expected a attractive, clean, well maintained place in a great location. It was clean and in a good location. However, that was it. It was old, like from the 70’s/80’s, only partially updated and poorly maintained. We were in a “superior” studio apartment. Not! Some of the ends of the floor boards didn’t interlock. There was up to 1/2 “ space between them. The rug was old and worn. There were no plugs near the bed. The bathroom was really old, with the only light being a dim fluorescent tube over the mirror. The toilet seat cover kept falling off. The one hook that was supposed to be on the door was under the sink, leaving a hole in the door. The ceiling fan worked, but the numbers on the dial didn’t match the actual speeds. We had a hard time knowing how to set it for what we needed. They DID NOT supply: salt/pepper, cooking oil, Kleenex, paper towels/napkins, hand towels or wash cloths, shampoo, conditioner or lotion. The coffee supplied was individual packets of instant, so the coffee maker was useless. There was one small kitchen towel. Lots of shopping for the very basics was necessary. There was no elevator in the building or land line in the room, even to contact the front desk. Extra bath towels cost extra $ and are not supplied daily. If we needed these or just had a quick question, we walked down (from the third floor in our case) during the limited hours the front desk is open. Add that to the condition that if you don’t take out your own trash or wash/put away all dishes, you may be charged $55. All in all, a major misrepresentation and way too much money for all the hassles and what little you get. Needless to say, we strongly recommend not staying here!

We were very happy for the four nights we were here. We had a studio which was spacious and very clean. Close to everything and about 15 mins walk from the reef tour boats. Must single out Cara on reception for her friendly and helpful manner.

Second stay at Cascade Motel, this time the residents at the rear of the property were a little noisy, but this is only a small negative as our 1 bedroom apartment was very clean and well kept. Kitchenette well stocked, even with plastic and foil wrap, full sized fridge/freezer that actually managed to freeze the water in the ice cube trays and our eskies icepacks. 2 good sized tv's , undercover parking, ac and fans, good water pressure in showers. Well loved, nice and clean and maintained, we would certainly stay again and have no hesitation in recommending to others.

we stayed as a group of 8 adults for a birthday getaway. sam was very friendly and helpful on arrival and also let one couple stay in the room later without any extra charge due to a late flight home. this was much appreciated so as not to be wandering around homeless for several hours - raining too. the pool and barbecue area is nice and it is a comfortable walk down to the cbd for shopping, restaurants etc. the units are quite old and could do with a spruce up especially the bathrooms but overall good value for what you pay - thanks sam!

We booked a unit in early February for a 7 night stay in mid-August through AirBnb (that's the subject of a separate review) asking for a ground floor unit but we were allocated a unit on the first floor. Makes you wonder how early you have to book to get a ground floor unit. We booked knowing there was no dishwasher but there was a washer and dryer in the unit. What you see in the advertising photos and what you get in reality are quite different. We arrived just after reception hours had closed but had no trouble getting our room key from the safe. Thanks to a couple of fine gentlemen we managed to get our luggage up two flights of stairs to our room and that's when the disappointment started. The establishment is old, 40 to 50 years old and it shows in the units. Ours had a kitchen refurbishment but in doing that there was suddenly two lights in the kitchen and none in the living area. The units are smaller than they look in the photos and the laundry not only has a washer and dryer but they managed to squeezed in a fridge as well. The age of our unit was sadly shown in the bathroom where it stepped out of the 80's with it's shower, wash basin and toilet with a single plunger. The balcony in reality has room for a chair and one person. With two air conditioning units there is no room to move. Hardly a balcony. As can happen on any holiday some things stop working. In our case we found that the dryer was broken and didn't dry, a power point would not switch on and that our 80's toilet would, at times, stick open and not fill. We reported these to reception and that's where the mattered ended. At no time did we get an update on how the repairs were going and as it turned out nothing was done because all the reported faults were still broken on the day we left. This place is in a good location within easy walking distance to the Esplanade and the CBD but I'm sorry to say that's the only positive in a world of negatives. With signs up everywhere threatening fines for non-compliance, this was for us not a place of welcome and somewhere we would not want to stay at again.
