(Unlike on the internet there is No tea and coffee facilities!) After a long day of delayed flights you are looking forward to that motel room coffee! Biggest disappointment. Reasonably tidy wouldn’t say clean. Definitely a budget room.

Very pleased with this hostel accommodation in Cairns.
We booked a twin room with private facilites.
It was more like an apartment you expect to get when you go self catering. It had a living area with a tv, fridge, two sofas, kettle and a microwave.
Bedrooms were adequate and the bathroom was very nice and clean.
Didn't really see much of the staff but when we did they were helpful.
The air conditioning was a blessing too !

I stayed in Koala Beach Resort for a period of 12 nights in a one-bedroom apartment. Work had booked the accommodation. The resort itself is located centrally, conveniently close to Cairns mall and the restaurants and Esplanade, 10 mins from reef ferry terminal. Koala Beach Resort is divided into two sections, the left one is the backpackers and the right side is the resort. However the place isn't a resort, more of a budget motel.

I stayed on second floor in room 208. The room is fairly spacious with dates furniture. It was winter time, but rooms were rather warm. A kitchenette was provided with a sink and microwave and fridge and basic utensils. A very small TV (32"?) was in the lounge.

Bathroom had a spacious shower, which had a few mould residue. Bath towels were provided but there are stains and holes in the towels provided.

There is a double bed and single bed available, however only the double bed had a sheet set available. There is a air conditioner in the bedroom which makes the room nice and cool, but it is quite noisy.

The apartment has small bugs. There are limited parking inside the resort (only 6) so you need to park early. There are parking available after 5pm outside the place, but if you are planning to go out to the reef, make sure you get a park in the resort as parking outside is pay parking and max 3 hours. Also, the gates to the parking at the resort closes at 7pm and only opens after 8am. There is complimentary wifi, but I could never connect to it. The reception lady was lovely and gave me another possible wifi code but still couldn't detect on both my phone and laptop, which makes it inconvenient for my work.

There are washing machines, dryers and pools available. Lots of kids went into the pool.

Checking out was fairly straight forward. As I was checking out outside of office hours (at 5am), there is a key drop that allows you slip the key into a box.

Overall, the accommodation is budget, a few bugs, night time can be dodgy.

Worst place i have ever been!! So dirty and filthy! The rooms never got cleaned while i were there and the the reception closes at 7pm.. Very old and the absolute worst kitchen i have ever seen..

The rooms were all missing curtons and half of the plugs in my room didn't work. Try to be 10 backpackers and 2 plugs..

And the wifi only worked in the reception! Not even in the kitchen

Hard to begin the description of this hostel. First room we got was a four bed dorm. It was disgusting and filthy so we changed. We got a dorm with six beds. No air conditioning in the humid climate so it was hot. The kitchen was filthy and cockroaches were running around. Don't stay here.

We were travelling around Australia for a month, so obviously stayed in many motels, hotels etc. with a range of prices! This accomadation was the worse that we stayed in, nothing what soever to do with the reception staff, whom I found most accomadating but their hands were tied. We booked in for 3 nights ourselves and another couple, it was quite late in the afternoon so we were pleased to have somewhere to stay. The card payment machine was not working, that should have been a warning if we had had foresight! So we paid cash for 3 nights, not realising until after that there was not refund available!! By the time that we had unpacked and it was after 7pm and the office was closed! Our pillows were absolutely disgusting, they were stained brown from whatever, the bed cover was filthy, well I wouldnt like to say what had been on that, The television was only available on a closed circuit all other stations did not work, the air conditioning was virtually nil, and although there was fans in the living area and the bedroom it did nothing to take the temperature down!! The temperature was over 40deg C! The towels in the bathroom were undesirable and I wouildnt have used them on my dog!! There were families there with young children who were allowed to run round in the closed compound until after 10.30pm screaming. The following morning I went into the office to complain,( as I said we had travelled around Australia for a month and previously a month around New Zealand and this was the first and only time that I had to complain!) I took the pillows and the towels back also the toaster that didnt work and spoke to Emma C. the receptionist who I must say apologised prefusely, she said that they normally didnt let that room but that was the only one left, she knew how disgusting the pillows were and had asked the owner for new stock on more that one occassion but this had not been forthcoming, apparently she had spoken to her that morning, so I asked her if she could ring her I would speak to her and tell her how I felt but that was impossible!! I also asked for a reduction and a refund so we could find somewhere else, but no refund was allowed. I complained about the children runniing around the complex late at night and in the early hours of the morning but she said that the manager had left and no new manager had been taken on, and I can understand that a young girl in her 20's would be no match for families with unruly chilren!!!!! Luckily for us she had had a cancellation and she moved us to a much nicer room where the pillows were spotless, the towels were clean and she supplied us with a working toaster and we had a working air conditioning and TV Yippee!!!! The bed cover was not great but a whole lot better than the previous room. The place is called Koala Beach Resort, no way would I call it a resort and it was no way near the beach!!! The owners need to be brought to task, to expect a youg girl receptionist, who bent over backwards to help the guests, to be able to sort out all the complaints she must have received and kept polite, never lost her patience, but would, no way be able to control the rowdy families that were staying there!

Stayed here at the beginning of our backpackingjourney through Australia, which was a huge misstake! The rooms are crawling with ants and bugs of all sorts and cockroaches are everywhere in the kitchenarea. We are not talking the small kind... After a few days we got red spots on our arms and legs, turns out it was bedbugs....Hideous bathrooms which left you feel dirtier going out of it than going in. Don't even want to talk about the filthiest kitchen I've seen.... We got recommended to stay here by kilroy, a travellingagency in Sweden, whom obviously have not been to this rathole. Please do not stay here, stay at Gilligans instead and save both money and your health!

Known locally in Cairns as Koala Back-packers this establishment claiming to be a Resort is anything but.
They should not be allowed to advertise as they are currently, More 1 Star Quality than 3.
Dirty bathroom, Dirty interior and exterior facilities, free wi-fi (If you like the walk to the local McDonalds for it), Kitchenette should be advertised as 'Microwave Supplied'....
You have been warned!

What a hovel. Even though the staff were very willing to help us the so-called two-bedroom unit was filthy so we asked for a cleaner room. Not much better, dirty, torn, faded upholstery on the cane couch and chairs, two dirty coffee cups, 3 mis-matched glasses, mis-matched plates, dirty toaster, dirty beds which we had to ask for clean sheets, dirty undies found under the bed. This for four people. Shower had to be cleaned as best it could, flushed toilet and it sounded like a fire alarm. No tea, coffee or washing up liquid. Hard to believe really isn't it, but it's all true. Sheets were stained and grey as were the towels.Pillows were stained, dirty and smelly. No internet which was advertised. We walked out after contacting the booking agent who sent someone round to check it out, and whooppee we got a full refund. Stay well away.

When I arrived, I was checked in by the night manager for two nights. I asked him NOT to charge my credit card and told him I would be paying by cash so not to incur an overseas transaction charge. When I went to check out, I had been charged by credit card and for three nights. The lady at reception refused to refund me any of the money. Not to mention my room was disgusting and the staff were outrageously rude.
