Their website advertises Reception open daily 8-30am to 2-30pm, management available by phone, email & live on site. They also advertise an on-site manager & an on-site tour desk to assist guests with enquiries - what a joke. We arrived at 8-30am to find a sign in the window to ring a phone no. as desk unattended so we rang where we were told "she would ring the manager & he MIGHT come, when my husband asked how would we know if he was coming we were told to ring back in 15mins and she would let us know!!!!! We rang back and were told yes he would come so we waited. What a shock when he did turn up, no apology, no "Hi I'm the manager" instead he was very sullen, wouldn't look at us, just leaned on the wall staring at his paper work saying "I didn't know you would be this early" When my husband said it was stated in the paper work he they had sent us, he just repeated that he didn't know we would be here this early. Eventually, my husband said we just wanted to store our cases until check in but if our room was ready and we could check in that would be great as we had come in on the "Red eye" from Perth. He mumbled something and walked away, when he came back he had an eftpos machine & told us how much we owed. My husband asked where our room was to which he indicated with a flick of his head, gave us a key and walked away. I also asked about storing our bags when we check out as we have a night flight home, the answer was very vague something about leaving them in our room, the cleaners would figure it out and put them in storage nothing about retrieving them or how late we could leave them. We have been here 7 days and the unattended sign has been in the reception window the whole time. The bed was comfy and the apartment was cleanish, no wine glasses at all, a couple of dirty coffee cups but in need of some serious TLC but I guess the state of the apartment was reflected in the price and it was well situated but I would not recommend it to anyone or stay here again.

What a disgusting filthy place. Pre booked 10 months in advance for a two month stay in Feb/March 2021. The apartment was a disgrace. Pillows were yellow and stained and stamped for change in 2013! Photos attached 😡 The mattress and blankets were dirty and smelly. Cockroaches the size of Texas were living happily with us. One bed had no mattress protector ( I had to go and buy one). The walls were scuffed, marked and dirty and needed a good clean and paint .. the skirting boards were obviously never cleaned with thick crusted dirt, and ground in layer upon layer of dust. The aircon filters looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in years! Pics below also. In the end, I couldn’t stay there .. I had to find alternative accommodation. Because I booked through Airbnb, I wasn’t able to get a refund . I don’t know what the other apartments were like, but this apartment (number 6) Was not only dirty and grubby, it needed a good deep clean and update. The lamps were wonky and only one was working out of the 4. The ceiling fans were also filthy. 2 of the seats at the dining table were broken and unable to be used .. I could go on and on. I couldn’t get out of there quick enough. Only sorry, that I paid 2 months up front. Waste of money. I guess you live and learn 😳

Response from wayne musson, General Manager at City Plaza Apartments Cairns
Responded 9 June 2021
We are very sorry this has happened to you, but as you may or may not know, the last week of your stay the hotel had changed to new management. We totally agree with you on every comment you had made, the rooms were disgusting and run down by the previous managers for the last 7 years as were the gardens. It has taken us so far 3 months of solid cleaning and still going to get the rooms up to the standard you would expect them to be. We have spent 2-3 FULL days cleaning each room as people checkout they were that dirty and filthy. Dust over skirting boards, on top of door ways, fans, top of curtain rails, top of pictures, top of kitchen cupboards had it soo thick it took 2 hours to get all that off as it was all oily dust as well. Yes we have fixed the broken chairs in unit 6 plus a few other units that had them the same way and have fixed all the broken appliances in rooms and lights and in the common areas. Lots of lights were not working there. pest control not done for around 7 years either we believe, the pest controllers came in April and they reported not good conditions, they had to come back a month later to give a second treatment the place was that bad. after they had come there were dead cockroaches and spiders all over the place so they have done their job well and we haven't seen any lives ones now for well over a month. I bet if you come again the place will be totally different to what you experienced.

I did a site inspection and booked a 10 night stay planned for my family visiting in April as the apartments were beautifully appointed and spacious for 3 adults and just a hop from my home (unit so no room for extended visitors with us). Sadly Covid-19 hampered out plans but Myra was more than generous in accommodating our request to cancel. Look forward to being able to rebook when travel is allowed again as i don't think you can beat the value for money and cbd fringe convience City Plaza Apartments offers .

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment and found it excellent value for money. Having 3 kids and finding even a hotel room without a huge price tag is hard. Older style but clean and had what we needed. Off street parking with height to allow our 4wd with roof rack (another problem we face with city apartments. We walked to dinner at bali restaurant Bay Leaf.

probably the most unprofessional, terrible place we have ever visited....zero response to the phone number on the check-in window, where a booking was made months ago....for almost 24hrs,- we lost our first day just trying to check in !! so we had to find other accomm, for at least the first night -and for a family in school holidays - that was fun....but once contact was made the next day , the reasons were ''unacceptable''...we had 5 other groups booked there at same time.....every unit had cleaning ''problems'' , washing left in dryers from previous tenants, airconditioner filters needing cleaning as weren't working, bins at pool not emptied all week, deck floors in units really dirty, and the list goes on....very disappointing experience and a dampener on our holiday...would not stay there again ever

I stayed here for two weeks, whilst working nearby. Apartment was very clean and well equipped. They painted the entire building during my stay. Foxtel and wifi are available. Clean swimming pool which unfortunately I didn’t get to use. Next time! Washing machine and clothes dryer Fans and aircon One of the beds had an underlay on it, which was super comfy. It reminded me of a 5 star hotel I once stayed in, where I wanted to stay in bed for the rest of my life😜 Location wise it is about two streets back from the Esplanade and at the quiet northern end of town. I could walk a round trip into the centre of town quite easily, despite being more senior! I walked to work each night after 9 pm and I felt safe. I did nightshift and slept during the day , without a problem. Inside the apartment, I couldn’t hear the other apartments. The lady running the place was very friendly, helpful and available. She went the extra mile. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone. If you are elderly and want to avoid the stairs, there are plenty of good ground floor apartments. Unit one on the ground floor had the great bed!

Apartment was dirty and in desperate need of a few coats of paint. We were too afraid to sit on the couch in the lounge as it was so dirty and old. Felt completely ripped off at $250 per night. No management or cleaners around all weekend to try and remedy the situation. Outside patio had not been cleaned from previous guests. Bathroom had mould on walls and ceiling and shower door too narrow, so bathroom floor under water in no time.Windows and glass sliding doors had clearly not been cleaned for a while. Dead cockroaches on floor. Neighbors were loud and kept us up at night. Not enough car parks so had to park on the street. Just a such a rip off. Really disappointed, won’t be going there again or recommending to anyone else.

nice appartment for our family. enough room for everybody. Appartment on ground floor + terrace. One bedroom has a door-window bringing to the terrace. Fully equiped kitchen washing machine, dryer and liquid. Just 1 soap for 4 people and dirty towels left in washing machine. Quiet place. A bit far away from the center - shops and restaurants (30minutes walk).
