Detailed Reviews
Coming back from the Cape we decided to overnight at this camp even though we are not campers. We had a warm welcome from Wendy and Mike who provided us with a comfortable two bedded tent with shared bathroom and kitchen nearby. Both were fully provisioned. They have well marked trails with fun sights nearby. Highly recommended

We were luck as we stayed in a restricted area only for the Outback Spirit travelers. the food was just fabulous. It was fun to have pre drinks and eats by the fire. The walks around the area were interesting especially seeing just how far the water came over the crossing close by.

Stayed here on Cape York trip.
Lovely green grass covered campsites. Surrounded by gorgeous bush land.
Cute cafe with good evening meals
Lovely walking tracks around the property. The famous Barra Hole (we looked but did not fish).
Toilet and shower facilities for campers scarce - 2 showers and 2.5 toilets for woman. A little cramped and only privacy in the shower is the shower curtain. Maybe I missed seeing another block.
All in all a very relaxing and restful nights stay.

Moreton telegraph station was the pick of places to stay up the cape. Power was very handy. Only downside was the rude owner who made an issue when asked where the drinking water tap was. I was rudely told that I had already been told. It was a small tap and not very well marked.

We are heading well north of Cairns and stayed at the Moreton Telegraph Station as part of a group tour. Very clean rooms set up on the edge of a camping area. My only complaint was that when you were inside the cabin the place was confining as there were not big doors to open out onto balcony but the rooms were nicely decorated and the air conditioning really worked well. Great meals on the communal dining room. A lovely spot

Stayed 2 nights on bus trip from Cape York - motel like units - comfortable - airconditioned - bathroom a bit small (for some people) - meals in main building - buy drinks in adjoining shop - meals nice and normal expectation - wallabies around - quite ok - nearby lake with crocs which are sometimes fed for the tourists.

We camped for one night and had a nice shady grassed spot. The showers and toilets are only small with 2 each but very clean. The owners are friendly and welcoming and it was $10 each for a powered site. The power however is run by a large generator that turns off at 8.30 and all other generators must also be off by that time which makes for a nice quiet night apart from the wandering cattle munching on grass outside. Lots of room and a book swap and brief history info is also available. Situated next to the Wenlock River.

Travelled with Oz Tours and were put up in the permanent tents with beds. Clean and comfortable but no power and a short walk to the donger amenities. The food supplied for the tour groups was excellent = restaurant standard. Good wildlife viewing options in the very early morning or on dusk as long as you keep 5m+ back from the Wenlock River.

+1
What a lovely place to stop. The green grassy campsites were such a welcome sight after a week of red dust! We so enjoyed our stop here - caught 4 fish in the famous Barra Hole, enjoyed all the bird life, the cows and bull grazing in the evening around the campsite (that made me feel better about the water usage for the grass! And the very friendly and lovely staff who put up with all my questions! Would highly recommend this as a stop - wishes we’d stopped there on the way up the Cape as well!

On our way to the Tip we already visited Moreton and had a great plunger coffee. As coffeelovers they already ‘had us’ by that time. Add the nice atmosphere, huge campingspots on grass, the friendly Polish girl working there, our first meeting with Barb(a)ra and the many birds we saw and we already were ‘sold’ on this place.
On our way back we visited again and decided to stay a night since we liked it so much and we had to book a camping spot for Iron Range NP and we had to get back to Bramwell Jnct for petrol for the trip to into Iron Range and back to the PDR.
We didnt need a better excuse. We had a great spot for ourselves on the side, it was called ‘Bustard’. Grassy with trees around it.
Barbra booked a spot in Iron Range for us and we we’re allowed to leave our fridge at the reception since something was wrong with loading of the battery.
The campsite is quiet, which was’nt the case in other places. The amenities were spotless, the whole place just feels like home. Loved all the wildlife, the Wenlock river and the Barra Hole. The little museum at reception is impressive with all the history of this place and all the merchandise is tempting. Well we did buy 2 fab green mugs from MTS, we walked around, made a campfire and just felt so happy there!
Thanks Barbra for all the nice talks, all the help and the hospitality..we love Moreton!
