As far as backpackers go, this place is great. Loads of nightly events, free food, cheap drinks, great atmosphere. Private rooms with ensuites are great for low costs getaways, stayed for 4 nights here and loved it,

This is a standard good quality YHA: clean, well equipped, helpful staff. The beds didn't have individual reading lights but were otherwise good. Lots of seating in the common areas, which is great. YHA never really encourages a party atmosphere but I found it easy to meet people here, mainly because of the big central seating area. I would stay...

No sleep in the dorms, we had to pay extra for a private room, which wasnt actually much quieter due to people partying every night in the 'communal area' which is in front of every rooms door! They tell people to be quiet at 10.30 but it doesnt happen, i suggest they tell people they cant drink at the hostel...

Dear Sammy, Many thanks for choosing to stay at Cairns Central YHA. Of course, I was disappointed to read of your dissatisfaction. While we like our guests to have a great time, we definitely recognise the need for a good night’s sleep and do endeavour to ensure that our guests receive this during their stay with us. I have passed...

We stayed at the central YHA for 3 nights. As we had stayed at YHA's in NZ and had really good experiences we expected a lot better than what we got in Cairns. The site is quite open therefore as our room was directly over the pool area we were kept awake quite late due to other guests noise and...

My friend and I stayed here for 4 nights, we had a female x4 room with and en-suite which was pleasant. The pool/eating area/kitchen was extremely sociable and a great place to meet new people and socialise. We went during quiet season in January but there were still plenty of people about. The kitchen area was very organised and always...

We have stayed in YHA Cairns Central for two nights in a 10 share female dorm. The room was not too big, but everyone had enough space for storage and movement. Rooms have A/C without temperature regulator, so be prepared to die in heat or freeze. The kitchen was spacious and clean. Many cupboard goods on the community shelf (no...

Stayed here for 2 weeks while travelling/moving up the east coast for 4 months and it has everything you need! We had a double room. Clean to basic standard but what more do you need?? Internet around, phones which all accept yha calling cards. Small pool area with pool table and decking area to get mingling! Help desk great! Close...

I moved to the YHA after staying at a more popular, noisy, party hostel a few blocks away, definitely the best move there! The YHA is a lovely hostel, although a little bit further away from the lagoon but the rooms were clean, with lockers and air con. Perfect! The courtyard is really pretty with a swimming pool and tables...

Stayed here for a few nights while we did the Cairns essentials. Rooms were clean and surprisingly spacious (we stayed in a 4 person dorm), kitchen area had working hobs which can't be said for a lot of hostels, and the outside eating area is nice to sit out. Having a pool is great for when you want a lazy...
