Me and my friends came for 5 days and ended up staying 2 weeks in the Jack’s backpackers Hostel. Would totally recommend it:
1. It’s very clean and the staff is lovely (thank you Harriet!)
2. The price is very cheap for the quality
3. It’s very relaxed and quiet. Definitely go if you want to rest and still be able to meet nice people!
4. Location is perfect, in the center of Cairns, next to Rustys market and many bars and clubs
Just go and see for yourself!

One of the cleanest hostels we have stayed in, the housekeeping and staff were super friendly and cleaned the room everyday, the showers and bathrooms were also of a very high standard and always clean. Super chilled vibe in the hostel, lounge area with Netflix and a big outdoor balcony with seating area. We will be back!

What can we say about the Jack? My friend and I have stayed here on many occasions and we can’t express how wonderful the staff have been to us every time. The manager Harriet has been so accommodating to us she is an absolute star! The reason why we keep coming back is mainly due to the wonderful service we’ve received. The facilities are clean and the kitchen is cleaned daily. Being new to backpacking I was a bit skeptical about sharing my space with others however coming here has been a wonders experience.

The sports bar below is also very accommodating for their guest - an extra bonus you get discount on food and drinks when you show them your key! If your up for a boogey and a sing along on the weekends this is the place to be. Sometimes it may get a little loud in the evenings if you’re in for an early night but it’s worth it - you can hear great live music from your balcony before you head off to bed.

Overall our stay here has been amazing and my friend and I keep extending our stay. We highly recommend!

Worst hostel ever stayed at - Bathrooms putrid, lounges torn and room smelt. Even pub food was not up to any aussie pubs standards. Only good thing was location close to esplanade Did One night stay and we couldn't wait to leave. Much bettter hostels for same price in Cairns, would not return or recommend staying there.

Poor service towards poorer people in the town, cheap rent for room, good at discrimination at people who don't have credit cards etc yet can still pay without any problems, even through the covid when lack of non locals around, C'mon you got to have a passport to access accommodation in own country. I don't think covid has had any affect on backpackers much, jacks should've been closed down during the covid left to suffer the financial strain. Shame on you management.

Overall our experience was Crap!!!! Stay away from the steak burgers, the meat is like leather and will break a tooth. The owner is deluded and couldn't care less!!! As locals we frequent many bars throughout Cairns, this won't be one of em anymore!!!

Terrible food. My friend ordered a pizza and I ordered the vegan schnitzel. The pizza was just slop, way too much sauce and all the toppings just slid off. The amount of bbq sauce on top was sickening.
I’m almost 100% certain I was given the chicken schnitzel instead of the vegan one. I’ve never eaten meat before but I’m familiar with vegan meats and the texture and taste weren’t anything like the vegan schnitzels you can buy. My chips were cold and the salad was dry without any dressing. I left most of what was on my plate. Absolute rip-off in price for what we got and as locals, we certainly won’t be eating here again. There are so many better food options in the city with much higher quality for a similar price, if not cheaper.

Chose Jacks to eat dinner with friends. I ordered the pepperoni 🍕 pizza and this pizza was the worst I have ever had in my life. Too much sauce that soaked into the base making the base too moist therefore the base became sloppy making each slice difficult to pick up to place into my mouth. Each time I picked up a slice it flopped down and the cheese began sliding off every slice. The other disappointment was the fact the each slice only had one piece of pepperoni on it. Very poor amount of topping. Unfortunately I was only able to consume a quarter of this pizza 🍕 ☹️. I can’t recall ever leaving 3/4 of any meal I’ve ordered at a restaurant uneaten. I left Jacks hungry. Additionally 3 out of 6 of my friends complained to me about their meal. All their salads came with no dressing and they couldn’t eat the coating on their fish. There is so much competition in Cairns - therefore Jacks needs to review their food ASAP to ensure they keep their restaurant part of this backpacker business running successfully to receive repeat customers for meals. Too many mistakes with 4 of the meals out of 7 served that night. I will not return to Jacks and neither will my friends.

I loved this place but had some small issues

It's clean and has a good atmosphere, the bar/downstairs area is really cool with great drink prices and promos that a backpacker can really afford (this is the only place we actually bought a few drinks in aus as its so expensive to drink there!!) live entertainment which was cool, large spacious communal balcony area, decent kitchen area which was never crowded

issues: our bed was crooked due to some broken slats or something underneath, we slept sort of rolling downhill for a few nights which was annoying/uncomfortable but we were only there a few nights so didn't bother to complain

No seperate male/female showers or toilets.. next door to your bf pooing! 👎

Free meal except on holidays like Easter, which is cool but there's never a vegetarian option!!!!!! No free meal for me during my stay

The noise is loud but doesn't continue too late, however if noise extremely bothers you and you need a quiet room don't stay here
