I didnt rate "very good" because of the mastress that wasnt real good. Otherwise this place was quite relax, with a free pool table, a small pool, it made me think of a motel as we see in the movies. People there were simple, relax and nice. Situted 10-15 min walk from the centre. Overall, nice basic place.

Castaways is definitely the best place to stay in cairns ! We planned to stay 3 days but ended up staying for nearly 6 weeks because we fell in love with this place. Castaways offers you a movie room, wii and PlayStation area, a pool, pool table, an awesome BBQ every Sunday and many more activities nearly every day. The beds are comfortable, every room has its own fridge and the kitchen is well-provided with everything. But the best about this place are the people ! Wayne, Kenny, Hannah, Kieran and all the other awesome people are doing everything to make your stay unforgettable! The atmosphere they create makes you feel like home. I would recommend staying in this hostel to everyone !

Castaways is just an amazing place! We came here and only planned to stay there for a short time to move in a shared flat but we loved Castaways so extended our stay to almost 6 weeks. They don't have bunk beds, and provide you with a pool table, a pool, playstation and wii, a netflix room, free CBD shuttle and free slush on sunny days! Once you come to this Hostel it makes leaving as hard as if you would leave home. If you go to Cairns I would definitely recommend staying at Castaways because of is atmosphere. Also the people Wayne, Kenny, Hanna, Keiran [..] make the best of your stay. I will definetly come back to my second home when I have the chance to go back to all those people that became friends!

Originally stayed at Castaway's Backpackers for 5 days but extended to 7 due to the amount of atmosphere this place releases. There is always something to do at this hostel, from playing pool downstairs or video games on the balcony to going on many the activities organised by staff such as bungee jumping, swimming at the creek, incredible BBQ's and many nights out to the much bustling city of Cairns. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and once I have finished my travels south to Melbourne, I will without any hesitation fly back up to Cairns and stay at Castaway's Backpackers!

Castaway's backpackers is a fantastic hostel close to the centre of town. The family owned property is hands down the best hostel in Cairns. The hostel itself boasts a variety of activities within, including, a free pool table, cinema room, games station, swimming pool, very fast WiFi, and best of all, no bunk beds! The staff at the hostel are very welcoming and can help with almost anything you need. Kenny, Wayne, Keiran and Co. are just a few that make up the brilliant staff on board. Everyone, guests included, will make sure that you really enjoy your stay. Also, the hostel is kept very clean and there is a large kitchen with all pots and pans etc. supplied for you. Such a chilled out hostel, they provide a shuttle into town and the staff will all most do anything for you. The bathrooms and showers are always clean the kitchen is fully equipped, a little small but does the job there's long term and short term guest at the hostel but there's always a good atmosphere. They also have a rule that after 10:30 people making noise stay away from the rooms and can sit by the pool area. The pool area has recently had a brand new decking installed and it totally gives you the chance to meet new people chilling after a night out or any time throughout the day. Been traveling around Australia for a while and this was by far the best hostel we have stayed in!! The staff were so friendly and couldn't do more to help, full of knowledge about the area etc. Melody on the tour desk was a legend pretty much booking our trip for us, didn't push the expensive ones like a lot of companies do, rather found tours that suites us best. All of her recommendations were amazing! The hostel itself had a relaxed and fun atmosphere with a lot of effort put in to make sure the guests have fun (pool tournaments, free slushies) and the staff get involved too. Any mess that is made is all down to other guests rather than staff negligence. It is a hostel after all! Really didn't want to leave this place! Thank you so much Castaways team!!!

This was a very nice, family/locally owned hostel. It was very reasonably priced and provided all the basic amenities a hostel should for a good price. It is about a 15 minute walk from downtown, however, they offer shuttle service around to the entire city. Very down to earth staff and guests, and everyone was kind and wanted to help any way possible. Would recommend and next time I'min Cairns I will be staying here again.

Castaways Backpackers has been nothing short of Astounding, Facilities are Great the Kitchen is equipped, activities are often happening and the Staff are Helpful the Owner Wayne has worked a lot on the Hostel and you can tell. Kenny and Morgan Cook a delicious $10 BBQ on Sunday and are always Helpful where they can be, also ask Kenny about the Shuttle Bus he drives. Overall the Hostel Staff have made my accommodation there a Treat. There has been a lot of work on the Hostel since I've been there and the Pool area is an awesome place to Relax. Thanks Castaways, so far it has been Great.

Great hostel in Cairns. Not in the centre but they do offer a shuttle service and it's not too far. Just a 20 min walk. Great variety of stuff to keep you occupied if not going out. Nintendo Wii and Playstation 4, movie room with Netflix, pool table, free slushies, pool. Also shout out to Kenny for being a top guy and giving us loads of advice of trips to do and waiting for us to finish uploading our photos before dropping us in town.
