Clean and tidy, very welcoming and lots of services and stuff available to do! It a bit far out of the town but they do offer free lifts so not too bad! Air con took coins but it was cheap so I would stay here again!

We stayed 4 nights in a double room. The bathrooms are really clean and quite modern! Probably the cleanest bathrooms we ever saw in a hostel. Cute kitchen with modern devices! The WIFI is extremely fast, free and unlimited (best WIFi we had so far in a hostel). We also liked the free billiard table. The staff is extremely friendly!! They picked us up from the bus station, although our bus ran late (21 pm). Staff even remembers your name, they make you feel like home. The room has a fridge, but our smelled really bad. Unfortunately, the mattress wasn't comfy at all. Air con costs money. That's why we give only 4 stars. We would stay again and recommend this hostel!

I stayed here for 2 nights - one of them I got in late and the second was after a long day out in the Great Barrier Reef so I didn't really have a chance to meet/talk to anyone. There isn't really anywhere to sit and meet people other than the pool and snooker table which are both outside. The kitchen was a mess when I went in there, however this was not the hostel's fault and they do clean it every morning. The hostel itself is pretty outdated, this includes the general decor and the furniture isn't great at all. The pool water is green too.😩You have to pay for the aircon, and if I remember correctly it's a $1/hour. We spent two nights here at the start of our trip down the East coast and it was the worst place we stayed in. To be fair the reception staff were friendly and helpful and the WiFi worked well but the hostel was dirty! Nothing felt very clean, maybe because everything had that old tired feel to it. None of the furniture looked appealing to sit on. We didn't use the cooking facilities and were happy not to as the first thing we saw in the kitchen was a large cockroach. Stayed in a double room located beside the pool table. Not ideal because it meant we had people smoking and chatting just outside our room. I think I remember signs about not smoking and to be quiet after ten but they weren't enforced. The bed itself was super thin and uncomfortable. And to top it all off, got…

Best Hostel i have Ever been to. The Room was really really clean with a Fan and an air condition. Also there is a Swimming Pool, a Pool table, a TV Room with netflix. The personnel was very Friendly and Niceee. Shout out to Kenny ^^ I was there 2 Weeks and now it s like a Familie. Best Hostel in Australia !!!

Castaways is awesome! All the staff are super helpful (shoutout to Kenny) and go above and beyond to make sure you're all set. Clean rooms, laundry, tv room, free pool, etc etc I will definitely stay at Castaways again if I come back to Cairns!

When me and my friend got to Cairns, we looked online and saw this cute little hostel. We booked a room for one night but we actually stay for almost 2 weeks. If we didn't book a flight to Bali we definitely would have stayed longer. It's just amazing. The owner (Wayne), his son (Kieran) and the receptionist (Kenny) are the nicest and friendliest people I have ever meet as hostel workers. They are really nice to everyone who is coming to stay at the hostel. They are caring so much about the wellbeing of their guests. No words could ever describe how awesome these people are. They are helping you in every possible way they could. It doesn't matter if you aren't that good in speaking englisch or being a little bit shy.
