I've been backpacking around the world for over 2 years now and Castaways is by far the best hostel I've ever stayed at! This is a very clean hostel with very good facilities: pool table, swimming pool, TV room, etc. Wayne, the owner, is very friendly and will make sure you are comfortable. I spent more than 2 months there and it feels like home now. Heads up to Kieran and Kinga who made this place amazing while they were here! I'm very sad I had to leave this place and I highly recommend it!

Highly recommended, great social atmosphere, very friendly staff, nice location. Clean, super cozy and welcoming. It has all the facilities to make your stay comfortable and home like. Despite the number of backpackers that are in the hostel, I found the place quiet and respectful of my needs.

Basic and clean accomodation. Stayed twice; two nights in a double room with private bathroom; once in a double with shared facilities. Wifi is available throughout the property including in bedrooms and coverage is good. Very helpful staff, who assisted us in booking trips. They have a mini bus in which they will drop you wherever you need if you book in advance. The property is walking distance from everything in cairns.

I have been travelling through Australia for 6 weeks now and needless to say, have slept in a ton of hostels. Castaways took the lead by a long shot. We got a private room for cheap and ended up staying there for 4 nights. If your a grandma like my friend and I (we're only 28) this is the best place to sleep. It's actually really quiet after 10:30 PM and the beds were actually quite comfortable, no bunk beds either! The staff was amazing in helping us get to and from the lagoon and the ferry terminal with a van that runs every hour or so and a shuttle to the airport for just 10 dollars. Wayne (I think that's his name) has a really cute dog that runs around also for a little puppy therapy if you enjoy love on a leash to de-stress while travelling like I do. Outdoor kitchen and…

Family group of 20 ( 7 adults , 13 children 5-50) This amazing backpackers had everything - well equipped kitchen - comfortable beds - big rooms some with clean bathrooms - pool table - pool area - help with organising tours ( wonderfully amazing tours) -hammocks - movie room - games room - shuttle service to town - easy walk to town And the most amazing friendly staff you have ever met. All facilities are clean and quiet My children had a ball meeting people from around the world and talking to staff. The waterfall tour is a must. Staff are happy to share local knowledge and information on places to eat and visit.

Normally I'm not a hostel type, but stayed here in my vehicle for a few nights & was really cool. Good staff and kind people around, became like a little family. Facilities good and cheaper than the caravan park tho. Highly recommendable! Shoutout to Kinga in the reception for good guide and planner!! 😄

The hostel was quite empty when I was there. It was really hot and you had to pay for the air con. You have to walk quite a bit to get to the city centre. But there are busses and the hostel offers a free shuttle as well. The service is really good - stuff is extremely helpful. The pool is amazing. The rooms are ok.

1st off I'd like to say "I'm not just a pretty girl!!" (Entire hostel joke) 2ndly yes I said entire hostel joke !!! This honestly I can say is one of the best friendliest places Iv stayed in Australia... the staff are amazing and more than accommodating to all the guests here, long and short term. Stayed here for 6 nights, it was so awesome!!! Really nice staff, friendly people, nice kitchen, nice rooms (but the white neon-light in my room was horrible :( )!! Tv / games room, billiard, clean bathrooms and so much more!!! I will really miss "Honey", the hostel dog. Was allways nice to cuddle with her😊 Airport Shuttle for 10 bucks- You are AWESOME!!!
