Nice & quiet place outside the city but still close to city. It has free parking .I didnt really use the kitchen & common areas but they looked good.It could have couple of more toilets but nevertheless wasnt a big issue as such.!! The owners are very friendly & welcoming !!

I stayed here my first week in Cairns. It is a really cosy and friendly hostel where you feel at home really quickly. The only negative were the beds. Some spirals were sticking out. The owner however told me that they are still working on the hostel and that they are planning on renewing things. Castaway backpackers hostel is of real good value (I think cheapest in town) and only 15 min walk to Cairns Central. I would reccomend!!

This family run hostel in fantastic - genuine, kind owners who are more than willing to help with anything. The facilities are great - two kitchens, a movie room and multiple showers/toilets. We travelled as a couple from the U.K in a camper and would rate these guys as one of the best places we stayed! To top it off, its well priced as well. The location is situated slightly out of town, less than 1 mile to town! There is also a well priced shuttle to Cairns airport as well as a convinience store, bottle shops, puts and fast food places all within a two minute walk! highly recommended!

Arrived in Cairns after travelling the East coast from Sydney in a motorhome & found Castaways. Fantastic Backpackers run by Helen & Wayne, all facilities superb, 10mins walk from seafront, night markets & Lagoon, excellent free WiFi, parking for 4/5 campers unpowered, brilliant hosts & a nice price. SUPERB.

There is swimming pool, billard, hot nice and clean shower/toilet, kitchen inside and outside, places to chill out. We went there for 1 night and stayed 3 nights. There is no power for campervan otherwise we would love to stay more. This is the best place we stayed during our 1 month road trip. I would like to point out how the owner, his son and his dog are really friendly and helpful! They are accessible and you can feel that they are not here only for the money. They really like what they do and try all the time to do their best. Really, we appreciated that because it’s not given to everybody to be like that. They can book for you an activity if you feel not comfortable with your English, you can borrow a bike for free which is really good because the city center is not too…

Best backpackers I've stayed at. Was in the 6 guys dorm. All single beds. Curfew at 10.30 so got to sleep before a big day of adventuring. Wayne was the owner and every new guest gets a super useful intro to the town, highlights and tours they recommend (usually referred from their guests or personal experience). Cheap but excellent service, the way it should be!

This is the first hostel we have ever stayed at after travelling around Australia for almost a year and we will definitely use hostels more from now on after having such an amazing experiene here. Castaway's is a lovely family run hostel which is very nice and clean and all of the staff are so friendly and will help with anything. There is a pool table, swimming pool and movie room- what more could you want? After two weeks me and my partner both ended up working at the hostel as housekeepers and night managerers and our one week stay turned into a two monthh stay. As it is a relatively small hostel there is definitely a family feel to the place and we enjoyed every second we spent here and have made friends for life. Ended up staying here for an extended period working and living May 2018-August 2018. I first stayed here with my partner in a double room and we loved it. My partner left and I then stayed in a dorm, and stayed for 3 months. I could not reccommend this place more. Everyone ends up becoming family and the owners will go out of their way do anything and everything for you. Great wifi, chill atmosphere, and everyones up for adventure. Very accepting of everyone, and there's even Honey the hostel hound, the cutest warm welcome you could want. Whenever in Cairns, I will be returning here.

Our initial two nights here quickly developed into an entire weeks stay, due to lovely charm and helpful staff. They helped us choose the best tours, and even gave us a lift to the docks to get on the reef boat. Because of the quiet atmosphere I slept like a baby, and I would higly recommend choosing Castaway if you feel like just relaxing instead of partying while in Cairns.

Stayed for a few nights here and it was great. Nice spot in the city. Staff are amazing. Wayne was brilliant and happy to go the extra mile. Would highly recommend for backpackers. They do regular shuttle runs around the city which is helpful. Great facilities too.
