I was gutted that I couldn't stay here longer. Castaways Backpackers really felt like a home away from home, which is such a nice feeling after going from hostel to hostel all the time. Every wednesday Wayne takes everyone from the hostel on a night out. The atmosphere was so nice. He even recommended a homestay place in Denpasar, Bali where I'm staying now. I would come back in a heartbeat. This hostel is a place with heart and soul and that's unfortunately not very common anymore. Let's cherish it and let's all go there! Thanks Wayne for running such a wonderful place.

Stayed over 7 months in this hostel and it was awesome. Clean, no bunkbeds, fridge in the room, nice people! Made many friends here and it felt like home instead of a hostel. Perfect if you want to stay longer. It´s got everything you need and more. Solid cinema room with free netflix, swimmingpool, 2 kitchens, 5 bathrooms, airco, and most importantly free full size pool table! Definitely highly recommended, thanks for everything Wayne!

My stay at Castaways was very comfortable. We were very impressed by how clean the facilities are, and the staff was also very friendly and helpful. We really appreciated the quietness of the hostel, so that we were able to get a good rest each night. Also appreciated that the we had our own beds, for such a good price!

The stay with Castaways backpackers has been great. Would stay again for sure! The owner/manager was really friendly and has the cutest dog to! All the facilities are nice and clean and the swimming pool was nice if not a little cool, great in hot weather! Great TV rooms and outside chill out area as well! Would recommend this place to anyone coming out this way! 👌🏼

This hostel is perfect for backpackers who are traveling, partying or working. For the price you pay for a room with 10 or more beds at other hostel you get a 3 bed room at castaway's. Rooms include A.C, private fridge and really good bed. If you're working you'd like to have privacy and being able to sleep whenever you can. Not possible if you share room with 10 more people, perfect to do at castaway's. You can make friends with cool people from all over the world. It has fast wifi, Cinema room with Netflix and HDMI, swimming pool, pool table, free bikes, lots of different areas with couches, tables for dinner, fans all over the place, TV's all over the place, Nintendo Wii, two kitchens, laundry room and many bathrooms with great shower. Stayed here for around a month with my boyfriend, they have plenty of private double rooms and no bunk beds at all!! Common areas cleaned regularly so never had any issues. The hostel has two kitchens, one inside and one outside so plenty of space to do some cooking. The walk into the CBD is around 20/25 minutes but you can organise a free shuttle to take you there. Staff really friendly and helpful:) Only downside was feeding the air con with $1 coins but I suppose its to save people leaving it on all day. All in all we really enjoyed our stay here.

We stayed there 6 nights. The room was very clean, there's a bus shuttle to CBD and for a cheap price also to the airport. The boss, Wayne, and his team are very nice, give you tips for tours (e. g. Barrier Reef) and do all that you've got a nice stay.

Me and my girlfriend stayed at Castaways in two different ways: (1) with our campervan and after we returned it we stayed (2) in a double room. This is why we can review both, and can say: this hostel is perfect! The hostel is quiet but still full of warm people to have a chat with, it’s huge but still tidy and clean, it’s inviting and very safe. My girlfriend and I had very much fun with the free Wii-Console with Mario Kart (I always won). Afterwards we always watched Netflix on their given Accounts in the Cinema Room, with a big projector. There was always something to do, even just to sit down, drink a free slush made by the owner Wayne and have a lovely chat with him. We can highly recommend this hostel and would stay longer if we would stay in Cairns! Cheers, Rami…

My partner and I stayed in this hostel for a few days and we enjoyed it so much! We stayed in both, van and double bed room, and both were totally fine. The hostel is very clean and has a lot of entertainment opportunities: cinema room with Netflix, Pool, Billard, Wii, multiple games and so on. We never got bored. There’s a shuttle bus for everybody who doesn’t want to walk 20 mins to the heart of Cairns. The stuff is always friendly and very helpful with booking tours and stuff. We had a great stay!
