USA tourist visiting with group. Upon arriving was initially put off by appearance. However, breakfast is very good, pool is great, and rooms while minimal were clean and air conditioned. Decent proximity to city, some restaurants and pubs are a bit of a walk, ask at front for great meal deal vouchers. Staff was friendly and helpful.

The room was large, spacious and clean . Like the pool and area . Could use a bit TLC on the grounds , kitchen and building. Great location to town . No TV room that's a good thing. Only thing is looking ahead seems heavily booked . I differently go back . Thanks for a enjoyable stay.

My girlfriend and I are backpackers living and travelling in the van across Australia, and booked couple tours in Cairns and decided to book our accommodation. We found Caravella Backpackers very cheap and was a reasonable location, which was 15min walk to the Lagoon.
We booked this place also because the advertised as having free parking, but in front was only 3hr free parking, but there was free parking at the back which wasn't as private or secure at all, just in the middle of a 2 way street.
We got to our check-in 30mins late and realized that the check-in time was earlier, so no one was at the reception. The place seemed dead and no one seemed to work here except one cleaner of Bagus Cafe. She told us that we needed to call the number on the sign for after hours, so we did and no answer. We left a message but never got a reply. We were supposed to get an email for our check-in but never got one and they were supposed to give us a code for the safe box for our key. Luckily another guest helped us out and knew the same code and we got our keys.
Room 69 was the suite we got, and it was at the very back corner of the hostel. As we entered it was fairly clean, had a private bathroom, couch, fridge, kettle, and aircon.
After a night when we took a shower the drain in the bathroom started to overflow, the drainage for the shower and the sink wasn't good, but slowly drained, also the toilet had a little leak as well and wasn't pleasant. We tried to call the reception and after hours phone number, but no one ever answered. We decided to wait the morning to catch them at the reception hours like they posted, but still no one seemed to work here.
At the end of our reservation we had to check out and give in the keys, but yet again no one works here so we had to toss the keys inside the reception, and never to return here again.
The have a trip advisor 4 star 2012 sticker on their window. I think it's time to take that down. New management needs to be taken.

Hi Aaron, Extremely disappointed in the way in which the room was left upon check out. Rubbish everywhere and looks like a urine soaked mattress. We had a lot of noise complaints coming from this particular room to the point where I had to move other guests away. I left a note on your door to come and see me and several times and knocked but you no one was there. I will be forwarding this complaint to booking.com to seek compensation as well as circulating to other hostels in Cairns

If You're going to Cairns on tiny budget- just stop there-calm place,with lot of activities to offer.It's easy to find,right at the Cairns promenade.

This place is on the esplanade of Cairns, in front of the sea.
They offer the transport from the airport to the hotel. they also have some vouchers with discount on some restaurants in the city.
The room is very simple but clean. We stayed in a 4-Bed Mixed Dormitory Room with Private bathroom. The only thing that i didn't like much is the lack of electrical plugs, shelfs and hunger in the room.
The space of the hotel is very nice, with a pool and space outside with tables to have your meals or just go to wi-fi.
Has laundry with clothes machines and some rope to hang the clothes.

What a great place to stay. Friendly, safe and loads of space for everyone to hang out and chill. Pool area is great and always easy to get a spot in the sun or in the splash. Proper little tropical haven after a hot day out in cairns. Air cons and fans in all the rooms. What a blessing. Definitely recommend 🙌🏽

None of the hostels in cairns pick you up,so had to walk,took me 10/15 minutes from greyhound bus stop,was very easy to find hostel....got greated by friendly and helpfull staff,they gave me map of cairns and told me where everything was in cairns,and every night they give you a voucher for for one of the pubs and you can get a meal and drink for 7 dollars,I used these most nights as it saved me cooking in hostel and the meals were good...I stayed in a 4bed mixed dorm which had its own fridge, toilet and shower,the room and bathroom was cleaned each day...the hostel had 2fully equipped kitchens,which were cleaned 2/3 times a day,free wifi,free pool table,large swimming pool,washing machine n dryer,and free luggage storage...I met lots of very nice people at this hostel and would recomend it,when I am back in cairns I will be coming back again,it's in my top 3 hostels on the east coast..

I stayed here in a private room for 5 nights. The room was nice & spacious with really good air conditioning. Bathroom wasn't far away & I never had to wait for the toilet or a shower. Some advertising materials & reviews mention free breakfast & evening meal but this is no longer offered. They do give you a voucher each day though for a meal & a drink at a nearby pub for $6.50 - this is a really good deal as the food is delicious. There is always a massive queue though as a lot of hostels have this deal. Location is good - only a 5-10 minute walk down the esplanade to the main area & lagoon. There isn't a big supermarket very close by, it's about a 15 minute walk. There are 2 kitchens which are really big with all the basics you need. Wifi near the kitchen area is good. Pool is nice and clean. The owner is a really nice guy - he even stopped us & asked if we were happy with everything. I would definitely recommend

Good hostel in a good location near the activities. An average hostel with pool and plenty of space and laundry too. Price was good. The service was fine. Not a view but did have balcony and air conditioning and other standard.

I agree with the previous comment there is no parking at the hostel just on street parking
I stayed at the private room and it was quite clean. So I guess the mixed dorm is clean as well.
I don't think they have them in the rooms - they are pretty basic! But as the other comment says - the front desk seems to have everything you need and they are very helpful!
