The food was great and the beds were soft. You do not have control of the air con thermostat in your room. It’s just on or off. Definitely wasn’t cool enough at times in our room. Room was small. Our room had an adjoining room which we were not using but the door let so much sound through. It was like we were sitting in the other people’s room. The pool was clean and large but cold. It’s on the shaded side of the hotel.

The aircon in a room was broken. Someone knew about it because the maitenance hatch was open when we entered the room. We didn't immediately notice it though, because we only had it on when we slept and woke up in a sweat. Most of the staff we polite, which was nice. A few were a bit rude. It would be nice if staff had explained upon arrival that if you put your keycard next to your phone, it demagnetizes it and it won't work. We had to go down to reception on 3 separate occations before anyone explained this to us. We would stay here again, but hopefully with a better experience.

Overall Hotel was good but location a bit too far now for walking down to CBD and the Reef Fleet Terminal. Have stayed here before but the walk is now too much for us in the heat. Would suggest getting a hire car when arriving or try and get tour operators to pick you up. Due to Covid dinning options in hotel were somewhat limited, hence the need to venture into town

We have been really disappointed by our stay at Rydges. Normally I’m happy to stay knowing the rooms are a bit old, but clean and usually great service. Our stay started on the wrong foot when we had to wait 90 minutes to be checked in as our room wasn’t ready, and only after I continually followed up. Our room was not serviced and when I called they stated I should have been told at check in that it is only on request?!?!? What the?! My issue with this is that we are paying hotel prices with less than motel service... It appears that they are massively under staffed and have forgotten what service is. We are booked for another Rydges later this year and based on this trip I’m going to cancel it... thoroughly disappointing!

The room was clean, neat and tidy. The bed was good but a little on the soft side for me. We stayed on the 5th floor with a mountain view room. The bathroom, although old had a great shower over the bath and we never ran out of hot water at any time over the 7 nights stay. The coffee was good from the downstairs lounge bar and we also got a takeaway meal one night from there, also not bad. The pool and the area around it needs a facelift/upgrade but nice to get wet on a hot day. The staff were very nice, helpful and good for a laugh. Points: Bar staff did not take cash, charge to room or card only Lots of day trip flyers in the lobby for day trips but not much for around town Muddy's Cafe nearby just by the beach is a must for food or drinks It is just that little bit too far from town to walk in the early afternoon hot sun Would I stay there again? yes I would but with a car...
