Detailed Reviews
This is our second time back in Cairns, we chose this hotel as it was reasonably priced. The location is excellent, less than 20minutes walk to the main restaurant area. There is a service station across the road. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. Room was very clean and comfortable just a little noisey from road traffic as we were staying on the road side. The pool area is a must and a great suntrap all day. We will be back for sure!

My partner and I stayed at sunshine tower for 5 nights and it was an enjoyable stay. I want to start by saying the girls on reception were all very friendly and welcoming, they were happy to have a chat anytime and also recommended places to visit and see. Shout out to Phoebe she was lovely! The property is a little be further out of the main strip but only a 10-15 minute walk or you can jump on one of the Beam scooters that are outside. The outside of the property is tired looking and could do with an update but the rooms are renovated and lovely. Tiled floors, updated furniture and great sizes. The kitchenette was lovely to have even though we didn’t really use it. There is no oven or stove up so keep this in mind when booking. The bathroom was a tad small but worked and the shower was great! We were in room 702 which had a lovely view towards the beach but note that this level also houses the electrical stuff so it is a little loud when you are trying to sleep. The tv was a smart tv but could never connect to the wifi so I would recommend them to update to have modems on each level. The outdoor pool and sauna were okay, only used it once and unfortunately the texture of the spa and pool was very rough on the skin so couldn’t stay in there long. BBQs are available for use but we didn’t use these. No housekeeping (I knew about this before booking) however the girls at reception were more than happy to provide more toilet paper/towels/tea/coffee etc with no extra cost.
Overall it’s a great property and worth the visit for stays under a week!

Hotel is a fair walk from any restaurants/the Marina or other activities/amenities.
They charge credit card surcharge fee hidden in fine print.
They don't offer extras supplies if staying more than one night, you have to go and request extra toiletries, toilet paper and milk etc every day. No room service. No bar or restaurant on site. Dumpling studio below is nice, difficult to order though as they don't speak English very well however it is delicious food.
Airplanes fly directly over hotel creating a lot of noise.
Decent budget hotel priced quite high, wished we had paid a few extra dollars to stay closer to the main street/Marina.

Responded 11 Oct 2021
Dear Sarah, thank you for taking the time to review Sunshine Tower Hotel. We are so glad you enjoyed our onsite restaurant, The Dumpling Studio. Authentic delicious Chinese food! We go to great lengths to offer the best value we can for our guests. To keep our room rates affordable, we do not offer a daily room service. For bookings of 7 nights or longer, a mid week clean will be performed. For all other guest you are welcome to visit reception for extra amenities (toilet paper, soap etc) or to collect a fresh set of towels. To save confusion we do clearly state this on the various booking sites, our confirmation letter on the day you book and our welcome letter on arrival. We look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit to Cairns. Clare

Looks like a struggling hotel to us. First impression was the filthy windows overlooking the reception area. Wanted to charge us $50 if we wanted our room early. If you want to barbecue after dark, don't forget your night vision goggles, no lighting. They threaten you with a hefty fine if you use a toaster in your room in case you cause the fire brigade to be called. Don't leave anything in your room when checked out. They rely on honest room staff to put your stuff in lost property. Was told that our room was recently re-furbished, wrong. On a good note, a girl in reception helped me out with WI-FI connection when the internet was down for four days.

I’m not sure the name of the hotel reflects the stay you’ll be having. The musty smelling apartment block was a drab place to stay, however it was affordable which is the main draw.
The staff weren’t very helpful, and seemed inconvenienced by questions or requests. I remember leaving my phone on the desk and instead of calling me back she just waited for me to notice I’d left it. That sums up the attitude. We often found people outside the hotel door unable to get access or be able to contact staff for assistance.
The Room
As there were 3 of us we requested an extra bed which was placed in the living room. I can’t say it was a bed, more like a clinical massage table with the most uncomfortable layer of what was deemed to be a mattress. When we asked for a replacement he blamed my mothers’ age for feeling the metal springs through the thin covering.
Instead of replacing it we were given a mattress protector which was covered with stained sheets. When we asked for the sheets to be replaced we pulled back the cover to find what could only be a large scabby toenail. We ended up lowering the metal legs to floor level to make it safer and using a towel over the sheets. Apparently, this doesn’t normally happen and the sheets are industrially cleaned.
The apartment was very basic and although we’d hoped to save money by cooking in there we just spent as little time in there as possible. It could do with basics things like mirrors and hanging space.
The location
The location was good for us as we were near a laundrette a few blocks away, a 10 min walk to the esplanade where there was a great café and children’s playground called Muddy’s. You will also walk past the Aquarium to get there too. The main town is area is about 15 mins away where there are more affordable restaurants and small market area.
The train station is also within a 15-20 min walk.

Dear Guest, I take all feedback very seriously, so I appreciate your honesty. We take such pride in our customer service, which our reviews reflect, so I am most disappointed you did not have the same experience. I have spoken with all of my service team to ensure we are giving each guest the best experience. In regard to your phone - we have numerous items left on the counter, unless we know what room they are from it is very hard for us to track the owner down. 10 times out of 10 the guest will return to the reception promptly as you did to retrieve it. Our sheets are Laundered from an outside reputable company, you are right, it is definitively a once off. I have addressed the response with my House keeping team to ensure they are listening and attending to the needs of each guest. We do have mirrors, draws and hanging space in each apartment. We also have a guest laundry downstairs for everyone's use. I hope we can welcome you back in the near future to change your negative response into a positive. Clare

Booked two nights for a quick trip to Cairns, couldn’t even spend one at this hotel. We were planning to be out and about all day so we didn’t need a resort style hotel. We were checking-in in the evening after a visit to Port Douglas and we received an email saying the front desk closed at 7pm and we could pick up our keys in a lock box. After arriving to room 205 we noticed ants crawling all over the bar area and nightstands. This wasn’t a huge concern as the weather is warm and ants pop up a lot in our city as well when it is hot and humid. This did cause us to take a closer look around and in doing so we were disgusted. There were silverfish around the fridge and in the bathroom, a dead roach, and a FILTHY mattress cover. To compound this we booked a room with a king bed and found two twins pushed together with no band or anything to cover up the crack between the mattresses. I promptly booked another hotel since the front desk was closed and there was no option to switch rooms. I emailed the property requesting a refund and received no response in the three weeks that have passed. Absolutely disgusting, couldn’t even spend 30 minutes in the room and by other reviews complaining about bed bugs, we definitely made the right choice booking another hotel and leaving ASAP.

Brett, I do believe we have the rare guest that no matter what the response is you will not be satisfied. We are super proud of our Hotel, our customer service and our cleanliness. We take pride in all that we do and it reflects in our service and our reviews. I have addressed the issues with my House Keeping team - but I will call you out on the Bed Bugs. We have NEVER EVER had them at Sunshine Tower Hotel & I truly believe once you mentioned we had them, your review lost all credibility. Your refund is sitting in AGODA awaiting for you to cancel your booking. No money was ever taken from our end. Regards Clare

Booked through booking.com couldn't fault it, the room was lovely and cold when walked in which was great. Bed was super comfortable and my partner loved how soft the pillows were. Only downside was that the carpark door had been damaged and it was getting repaired. On our last day I accidentally left my pillow and phone up not long after we left and reception phone informed me it was no problems and that they would ring housekeeping and bring it down for me to pick up at reception later. We were close to everything which was good and so grateful for the lift after we spent a day shopping when the weather was not great.

This is a modern well-appointed hotel conveniently placed within walking of the Esplanade and Cairns Central. The room was very spacious with a seating area and a huge picture window for great views. There is also a stunning pool and barbecue area.

Great stay and great value. Room super nice, clean and spacious and front desk staff were all wonderful - incredibly helpful and accommodating. Location is maybe a 10-15 min walk from lagoon/central area but absolutely worth the short walk for such nice accommodations. Will definitely stay here again if I return to cairns.
