Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We came here to experience it last January. Room quality is really bad. I hope the hotel will improve the rooms to be better for hotel guests. We arrived in Cairns during the rainy season. Water leaks from the ceiling. Even when we turned on the air conditioner, there was a lot of water flowing from the electrical outlet. Very dangerous . We slept and water leaked everywhere. If this situation continues for a long time, it will be really bad. I hope the hotel will improve this issue. I won't come back to this place again.

Very Average, we just needed a reasonable place to stay for 1 night before we flew out. We weren’t expecting much but this place was very average, run down, limited parking, noisy with someone knocking on doors during the night & rooms run down & not that clean, pool terrible & overpriced very disappointing. Don’t trust the pictures supplied.

Not worth the price nothing like the photos bit rundown only worth about $80 a night not $180. shower curtains weren’t even long enough to reach past the ledge for the shower. Water went everywhere they go to all that effort and money to re-tile the shower and bathroom and can’t even get the shower curtains, right? No power points near the bed head so you can charge your phone closest one was over near the microwave. Old box unit Aircon didn’t really work I would not pay that much to stay here again

Very disappointed, I am sure the photo’s on the website are of a room somewhere in the establishment but not the room we were given, the entire place is very well used and could do with a good smarten up and clean, I booked for a week for wife’s birthday she was disappointed with cleanliness and poor state of the room and the fact that there was no rubbish removal or fresh towels for the weeks stay , you can go and get more from reception, there is no designated parking for your room and there are not enough bays for number of rooms so first in best dressed or park on the street,

TL;DR: Careful of being scammed. I should have seen the red flags that this hotel operates like a scam. If you want to be sure you'll have a place to rest your head at night, don't book here. I was stranded in the middle of the night as a solo female traveler with nowhere to sleep. After googling the issue, I found out later that I was not the only person this has happened to. See below for details: *First red flag:* I should have realized this was a scam when I booked (directly through their website, I might add) and didn’t receive a confirmation email. I called in to make sure I would have a room because I was charged but didn’t receive an email confirmation until they "resent" it when I enquired. *Second red flag:* I then asked how I’d check in after reception hours because I had a late flight. I was assured over the phone that there was an “after hours” protocol and I’d receive more information on the day of my check in. *Third red flag:* Not feeling comfortable with that answer, I then emailed in only to get the same response. I’m not sure why they couldn’t give me the information to check in when I asked. *What transpired:* They never sent me details on how to check in after reception hours. When I arrived from my flight after 1am, I was desperately hoping I'd be able to check in despite that fact. There was a sign to “use the phone on the other wall” to call the operator for instructions on how to check-in. There was no phone. Instead, there was another sign that said to call a number if you couldn’t get hold of the operator. It was like a demented scavenger hunt. That number didn’t work and nobody answered. As a solo female traveler, I was stranded at 1:30am by myself after a long day of international travel to get there and with nothing open in the vicinity. I had to walk over half a mile with all of my luggage to find a place that was open that I could sleep in. I obviously demanded reimbursement. I emailed in again and didn’t receive a response for over a week, after I followed up multiple times. I finally received an answer by a “manager” who had the audacity to say that “with 48hours cancellation [they] did not have to” refund me so it was out of their kindness that they would do any such thing. Again, I did not cancel, they literally prevented me from staying because of their negligence. Don’t let them steal your money.

Simple and old-fashioned room. Many small flaws, but was clean (enough). The hotel itself had few facilities. Mini pool and few/no public places to relax. Walking to the center is possible, but quite far (25 minutes). Biggest drawback is that the rooms are very noisy. I woke up every day before 7 am from all the noise (children, departing guests, etc). Okay hotel for a few days stay in Cairns, but don't expect luxury.

Basic accommodation - no meals and a hassle carrying bags up the narrow stairs. No food outlets close but within walking distance. Parking a nightmare within the complex and near room. Close to airport and check-in and out easy.

Very accommodating when we needed to change our booking to a week later. No issues. The ladies at check-in were great. Advice on what to see and do. Able to do after hours check-in and early departure. Rooms are basic. TV, mini fridge, bathroom with hot shower. Walking distance to the hospital and nearby restaurants. Great value, cheap accommodation. On the main highway.

Called direct and received a great rate from Wayne who was very helpful and friendly as was the check in team. Hotel is handy to town and the airport (for a late or early flight, it’s a 5 min drive). Well presented neat rooms with ample cooling and the hotel has a beautiful tropical pool area.

When I got there the room smelt of mould. I was told that was the smell of the cleaning products, but I am not stupid so I insisted they change the room. They did, but it was infested with ants. They were in the sink area, on the counter, in the bathroom, and around the toilet bowl. They even got into the wardrobe. I spoke to reception about it and all I got was a "there is nothing we can do for you". They sent someone after 2 days (as I had to wait since it was Sunday as if I hadn't paid for the weekend!) and he also said there was nothing he could do. I complained to booking.com and they told them they had upgraded me - BIG FAT LIE. Very quick to send me messages to leave reviews (here you have it!) but not to resolve issues. There was also an electrical fault that destroyed two expensive universal adapters. The hotel did nothing to compensate for this. Again "there is nothing we can do for you" is what I got. I lost a day's pay as I could not work without a power supply, had to purchase new adapters the following day, and all they could say is "there is nothing we can do for you". What kind of hotel doesn't have adapters? The AC unit was exposed, the door was tricky to lock/unlock (the receptionist had to show me how to lock the door), and there is no one available at night in case something goes wrong. Lastly, the listing says daily cleaning but this is not true. You are only allowed to ask for it once in the middle of your stay and you need to request this. I did and she barely cleaned anything, just a quick vacuum and change of sheets and some towels (not all). My sincere advice as a world traveller: STAY AWAY FROM HOTEL TROPIQ. Their customer service is ZERO. Quick to take credit card details but then refuse to take responsibility for anything that goes wrong within the service. You just have to accept a "there is nothing we can do for you". This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at and I wouldn't even recommend it to my worst enemy!
