I don't often give top score and admittedly we'd just got back from a fortnight's camping but we couldn't fault this place. Big clean and quiet room with plenty of room for luggage, good bathroom, small balcony. Reception staff were excellent and directed us to the guest laundry, provided discount vouchers for an excellent breakfast location 100 metres up the road. On-site parking and walking distance to marina and restaurant area. Small pool was closed due to Covid but that's not their fault. All this at a very competitive price.

Booked this hotel about 1 week out, got a fantastic deal on 3 nights accommodation, when you first check-in the hotel seems dated, but as soon as you head to the rooms, it’s a completely different story, you can tell it’s been recently refurbished with the new rooom smell, we had the 1 bedroom ocean room suite, which came with not 1 but 2 balconies overlooking the esplanade and water, the room was clean and well presented. The hotel was a short walk to the main hustle and bustle of Cairns(which is very quiet at the moment due to Covid19) the absolute standout of this hotel is the staff. From the minute that we arrived nothing was too much trouble for them (annoyingly our flight was reschedualed by five hours and the owner offered to allow us to stay in our room free of charge till 2pm which was the biggest lifesaver for us and this is why we will defiantly return to this hotel and recommend it to others who are staying in the area

I cannot thank the Cairns Plaza Hotel staff enough for their kindness and the way they made my mum and I feel at home. Our stay was 5 weeks long. I came to them in an urgent situation looking for accommodation and they responded with kindness and offered me an affordable solution.
If you’re looking for the type of service that has a family feel, then stay here. It was clear to me that the owner of this hotel is a caring soul and one who is very hands on at every level. You will most likely pass him in the carpark where he will offer to help you with your luggage or even park your car. His caring nature runs through all of the staff. Most places you go these days, it’s easy to observe that staff live in fear of their boss and they are pushed to the limit and expected to work their fingers to the bone with almost unmanageable work loads - this is not so at the CPH. At the CPH, it was easy to see that the culture was a caring one and the sound of staff giggling as they went about their chores was joyful to hear.
Apart from the fantastic staff and service, the hotel is located across from a very popular ocean front restaurant (Muddys) that is open from very early until 7pm and offers hotel customers a discount, a quaint and tasty Indonesian restaurant directly next door which makes you feel as though you’re in Indonesia, and just a short 5 minute walk away, you will have the choice of dozens of restaurants and ice-cream parlors as well as the night markets. The choices are endless.
I will be recommending the CPH to everyone and I hope I will be back some day when I’m next in Cairns.

Dear janetgypsy A big hello to you from all of us here at the hotel. WOW what a glowing review, we are so happy to hear that you and (Queenie) mum enjoyed your stay with us. Its so nice to have guests like yourselves staying with us and appreciating what we offer. It was nice to be able to see your mum each morning and have a chat after the morning swim. Very true what you have said about our team members along with our owners, respect is always given and received and that makes it so much more enjoyable, from our front office team to our house keeping team always smiling as they go about their day and even some days if you are lucky you can hear them singing. This comes from the top and again I say how lucky we are to have our owners play such a large part in our daily operations. Once again thanks so much and please take care and enjoy yourself on your journeys. We look forward to seeing you again in the future upon your return to Cairns. Stay safe.

We stayed two nights, pre and post holiday to Port Douglas. We had rooms both times with a balcony, first stay with a mountain view and second with a mountain/partial sea view. Decor is lovely and everything was very clean. The hotel is on the esplanade and walking distance to bars and restaurants etc. We were most impressed though for our second stay, to receive a phone call a few hours out from official check-in time of 2pm advising us our room was ready and we could check in anytime. This was very much appreciated as it was pouring rain as we made our way back from Port Douglas. We would highly recommend staying here and should we visit North Queensland again we will stay here.

Older style hotel in a great location. Right across the road from the Esplanade and playground. Muddys cafe across the road sells good food with water views; we ate there twice on the first day! (Brunch,; later 7pm dinner). Room 302 at the back was large & spotless - four single beds with crisp white bed linen; two singles joined together made up the queen size bed. Well equipped kitchenette including fridge and microwave. Ice and pool towels provided on request. Courteous staff at reception; Great welcome from Malcolm. Recommended!

Dear CM67Melb Greetings from The Cairns Plaza Hotel. Thanks for your recent stay with us along with your welcomed review. Yes the hotel is a older style hotel locally owned and operated offering good old fashioned service. Our rooms have recently gone through a enhancement and the next stage will be the exterior of the hotel incorporating the pool area and gardens. Our location is perfect as you have said being right across from Muddys café and playground and just a 10 minute walk along the waterfront to the CBD. We take pride in our team and enjoy receiving feedback such as yours, I will pass on your comments to Malcolm and the team. Thanks again, we look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the future. Take care and stay safe……

We stayed here for seven nights and what a great place to stay! It's at the northern end of the Esplanade but within walking distance of restaurants, bars and the shops. We booked an ocean-facing suite and what fabulous views to wake up to each morning, plus the weather was very kind. The king-size bed was extremely comfortable, the water was hot and the towels were large and fluffy.... all you need for a good stay but the little extras made it into a great stay. Incredibly, our room was fully serviced each day (this doesn't happen at some 5-star hotels) and the front desk staff were always warm and welcoming. Our suite contained everything we needed for a week's stay and there is also a guest laundry on site. If ever we are lucky enough to return to Cairns again, we'll definitely stay at Cairns Plaza Hotel. Thank you for a great stay.

My husband & I stayed here 1 night each before & after our trip out to a Barrier Reef Island. I booked it through Quantas (for about $188 AUD night) for location to airport and walking distance to restaurants (no dining on site). We just booked a basic room. We arrived late afternoon short ride via taxi (about $25 AUD) & checked into our 6th floor room. The other night we were in same type of room on 2nd floor, this time too low for Oceanview. It was basic, clean and spacious with Queen & 2 twin beds, table & chairs, balcony seating, fridge (which we used) and microwave plus some basic dishes.
We had gotten an email some weeks prior that starting the next day that the pool/patio and entrance area would be worked on. They appeared to be doing a full demolition. I love swimming but there is a huge pool right down the street off the promenade, not advised to swim in ocean because there are crocodiles nearby.
We walked a short distance along promenade (which extends 2.5 km) along ocean. There are nice spaces for people to walk, bring their dogs, run, parks, including a big one for kids, places to BBQ, fitness stations, tennis, basket & volleyball. There was also a large ferris wheel to ride. There were many nearby restaurants with water views and shops.
The walls were thin and you could hear voices and plumbing flushing but it didn't disturb our sleep. The staff seemed nice and the elevator worked fine. No issue with air conditioner or water pressure. Our only complaint the 1st night we stayed was the Queen bed was too hard. The subsequent night, the Queen bed was better. When we returned, the pool/entrance area was quite a mess and the entrance relocated to side of building. We wouldn't have wanted to stay there a week with construction going on but it worked fine for what we needed. We did pay an extra $50 for 1 hour to checkout at 12 pm instead of 11 since we had a late afternoon flight. Thought that was a bit steep but worth it to us.

Located on the beautiful Cairns esplanade, an easy, pleasant two block walk to the main restaurant strip. The balcony of our 6th floor room overlooked the side street and had a good view of the harbour. Muddy’s Café across the Esplanade serves breakfast and lunch, discounted for hotel guests.
The room was spacious, had a queen and two single beds, table and chairs and a bench fitted with sink, frig, microwave, plates and cutlery. Bathroom had a large walk-in shower.
Reception is 24-hour and the staff were welcoming and helpful.

Arrived early without a reservation and were happily welcomed by Dean and Laura at the front desk who immediately phoned housekeeping to see if a certain room was ready. It was and we checked in at 11:00am. The room was spotless, the staff was always smiling and helpful and then we found out why. We met the Proprietor, a lovely man, Peter Boylan who realises the importance of treating your staff with mutual respect. His staff work "with" him not "for" him.
Our room overlooked the ocean and a lovely park. It was a pleasurable stay and we will definitely be back. Thank you to everyone at Cairns Plaza.
