Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We really appreciated and loved this type of architecture, the whole Queenslander type of look that so represents Far North Queensland. It's so refreshing especially being surrounded by so many large hotels. Our room still had all the modern, large comfy features that makes a great stay. It's positioned in a great spot for cafes and the esplanade too. The breakfast buffet and dinner had lots to choose from and was very tasty in such a lovely, relaxing setting overlooking the pool. All staff we encountered were only too happy to help in any way and tried very hard to make sure we had an exceptional stay. Thank you

Staff unaware of Accor membership benefits. Gold members get free upgrade on check in and when asking for a King bed room, staff stated that there are no rooms with a king bed, yet when checking their website, you can book a king bed room, go figure !

Dear Harerace, Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Mercure Cairns. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. At Mercure, we strive to provide a superior service experience for every customer; therefore your feedback is very important to us. All our staff are trained on all the types of rooms we have. There might have been a miscommunication as there is a posibility our team mentioned to you all the king bed rooms were fully occupied. We do apologies if this has caused an inconvenience to you. We very much value our members, However the benefit for a room upgrade will only be on availability and not guaranteed. But as a Gold member, we have provided you the rest of the benefits. Please rest assured that we are taking the appropriate measures to address the problem and prevent future occurrence. We appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Sincerely, Mercure Cairns Team

This hotel is only 10 a 10-minute walk to the city centre and the fantastic pubs and cafes on the Esplanade. If you want to do it in 2 minutes get one of the the electric scooters outside the reception area. The safe are welcoming and very friendly, making my 3-week stay a pleasure. The only downside was their restaurant is not open every night, but not a problem when you are that close to everything the city has to offer.

Room Tip: It was annoying when they came to the room every day to check the mini bar (I didn't use it).

Arriving was a little bit of a hassle as Google sends you to another place. Place looks lovely from outside side. Service was okay, was a little setback that in-house staff are there to check mini bar before we leave the room for the day. The rooms were okay bathroom a little cramped especially trying to close the door. The beds are a little hazardous, locks on the wheels might be a good thing. The decor could do with an update but was comfortable. I feel the the $25 charge for parking what looks to be the staff parking is bit steep. Overall was an okay stay. 7 out of 10.

Please rest assured that we are taking the appropriate measures to address the problem and prevent future occurrence. As an Accor member I wasn't offered any privileges that comes with being a member until I complained the next morning. I see in the information that the front door is locked at 10pm but I was told the reception closed at 11pm. So that was a little confusing until we got our keys out of the locked box and read the instructions at 10.40pm as we could see the receptionist still inside at 10.40pm. Room was good and happy with everything

Dear ElizabethG332, Thank you for your review of Mercure Cairns. We do apologize for the lack of customer service not provided to you during your stay and lack of acknowledgement that you were an Accor member. It would seem that further training of our team is required. We will certainly be putting measures in place to combat this. We hope though that you enjoyed your stay in Cairns and will look to returning again in the future.

Very underwhelming and overpriced. A rating of 3 stars is generous. Room was dark and claustrophobic. Signs of mould in the bathroom around the ceiling in the shower. No matter how good the Corporate rate, won't be staying here again. Only positive - the reception staff, who were keen to please.

The location is good and fairly central but there were a few things we were a bit disappointed with. When we arrived we discovered there was no hotel parking and we were advised we had to park out front on the street. With only a handful of bays available that were always taken up, we had to pay for parking in the carpark down the road. The hotel itself was okay but could do with some maintenance with basic things such as our toilet seat being broken and only one working washing machine. In saying this, the breakfast was fairly good, the bed was comfy and the tv in our room was huge!

Disappointing! Although a great central location, this hotel lacked on many fronts. No highchair available in restaurant or to use in rooms made meals difficult wit a toddler. Wifi was unreliable. Poor cleaning of rooms, balcony and pool area. Very limited kitchen supplies provided in kitchenette. A space for a microwave was provided but was told we had to pay $10, a day for a microwave. Difficult as we stayed 7 days and wanted to heat food for some meals. The room was not clean on arrival and spa bath was filthy. The balcony was dirty. Housekeeping staff were very helpful when asked. Room was re-supplied with varying consistency. Sometime no face cloths or hand towels provided. Front desk staff were not very helpful or friendly.Restaurant staff quickly asked for room number and did not even say hello. On the positive side, the bed was comfortable. Would not return there or recommend.

Comfortable beds, nice and dark rooms. Rooms on bottom level are very noisy, close to the main road and walk way. No toaster and very small bathroom. Disappointed with the variety at the buffet breakfast not worth the price

Thank you for your review of Mercure Cairns. We note your comments regarding there being no toaster in the room and would advise we are not apartments but a fully serviced hotel. We also see you were not impressed with our breakfast buffet offerings and will note this with our kitchen team for review. We hope that you may considering returning again in the future.
