Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Cairns has garnered appreciation for its prime location on The Esplanade, bringing guests close to local attractions, and its relaxing atrium atmosphere, despite some criticism of dated room furnishings. While the hotel's amenities generally receive positive remarks and the staff is commended for their service, there are occasional inconsistencies noted.
Rooms are a point of contention; they are seen as spacious and well-equipped by some, yet others view them as outdated or not thoroughly cleaned. Moreover, the value proposition is questioned by guests who expect more for their money.

The hotel is built in a circle around a rain forest that has a pond and a very realistic crocodiles head in it. I enjoyed not being in the same old design. I asked for a walk-in shower and was given a room mainly designed for someone in a wheelchair. It was well done except for one thing, there was no way to prop open the door to get in and out. It really was a challenge for my walker and I.
Apart from that I found teh staff were friendly and willing to help especially the two concierges Joseph and I didn't get the other one's name. Everytime they saw me trying to get into Reception they would race acoss and open the door for me.

Great experience at check in and I came a day early due to Corona Virus and they were accommodating and changed my room by 1 day.
Have me an upgrade to a see facing room and was great, room can do with updating as carpet as a gap between wall and end of carpet also marks on wall and dirt on roof in front of air con.
On first night toilet was running and kept me up most of the night so I told reception and they fixed it as apparently the washer, next night fire alarm went off at 0030 in the morning,
I am a diamond member and stay at a lot of Hilton properties all over the world and as a member you get a free continental breakfast at doubletree Hotels but all the Doubletree hotels I have stayed at have given me a full buffet breakfast as part of the Benefits but here they were adamant to give me a continental and pay $10 for a buffet. When I said no I sat down and the host kept checking up on me to see if I was getting a buffet as I was sat near that area. (The Hotel is dead empty due to Civid-19 and the food will go to waste so I would think they would allow this as well)
I was looking forward to this hotel and a little disappointed.
On a plus side reception staff are sooo friendly and welcoming and it’s great to see.

Doubletree were offering a good 7 night deal including breakfast and free cancellation up until a few days before (a deal maker/ breaker with covid) and their pool looked great so those were our main reasons for booking. A week before we came we focussed on a few of the bad reviews and nearly cancelled but really pleased we didn't. Others have given negative feedback on the hotel being dated. Yes, it doesn't look very picturesque from the outside but that's the same for a lot of the hotels in Cairns. We had upgraded to an ocean view room with a balcony. Worth the extra money. The bed was a king and was comfy. The staff were really good at making sure we were well stocked on toiletries and regularly changed the towels and bed linen. I've stayed in nicer rooms but overall the room was fine. My only ask would have been for a bigger bathroom because it was tiny. Buffet breakfast was brilliant. Enough choice that you don't have to eat the same thing every day. The pool area was fantastic- really nice gardens around it. Big enough pool for you to be actually able to do some lengths. Loved the tropical gardens in the middle with the fish. Great location- short walk to the bars and restaurants. Great happy hour in the hotel bar. We did a critique of the other big named nearby hotels but next time we're in Cairns we would happily choose Doubletree over them because overall the positives did outweigh the negatives and we really enjoyed our stay.

Hi V544UUsarahd We appreciate you taking the time to leave your detailed comments on Tripadvisor after your recent stay. We wanted to thank you for noting that "beauty truly is on the inside' and while our exterior may look a little out dated, the inside of the hotel (especially the rainforest atrium and ponds) are a little oasis in the heart of Cairns. It is great you managed to enjoy the very generous daily specials in The Vine Room: perfect for unwinding after a long day of sight seeing! Thank you again for your review and please do visit us again very soon.

After a nice stay here, booked again and enjoyed another great stay a week later. In a good central location, walking distance to restaurants and bars, shopping, reef tours, Cairns Aquarium across the road. Underground security parking available. Spacious room, very clean with plenty of powerpoints and bedside light switches and reading light. The bathroom is a bit small but very clean and has everything, shower has good hot water and water flow. The bed was very comfortable and a great sleep, blackout curtains over the ceiling to floor windows that provide incredible light and views during the day. Has Pay TV channels for free with main sports channels (including NRL) and lots of movie channels. Wifi is $10 a day in the room if you're not a Hilton member. 12 noon checkout is a great bonus. Breakfast is vary good with a lot of options. The Vine, facing the Esplanade is an excellent, very relaxing open air bar and restaurant. Probably the best thing about this Hotel - the service and the staff! Reception, hospitality and room staff that I had dealings with during my stays were all exceptional - not one exception! Prices vary dramatically depending on peaks times in Cairns, but whenever I can get a good deal, I will stay here on my regular visits to Cairns.

Hi Glen Many thanks for taking the time to leave your review of Doubletree Cairns on Tripadvisor. You have touched on what so many of our lovely guests enjoy about the hotel: the central CBD location (Close to almost everywhere you need to get to!), our professional and helpful team and the lovely little wine bar we run called The Vine Room (I hope you managed to enjoy the daily drinks specials!) We very much look forward to welcoming you back again.

The Doubletree has a really good location on the Esplanade close to lots of eating places but far enough away not to be bothered by the noise. There is a local bus stop in the next street and the railway station and reef fleet terminal are within walking distance. Breakfast could do with some variation from day to day as there is no change to the offering each day – well, they did change the flavour of the muffins one day! The 6:30am start for breakfast makes eating rushed if your tour is picking you up at 7. We had a great view from our room (a double double) over the mud flats to the mountains. We could watch the boats come and go. A bonus was being able to go a short distance along the balcony to watch the fireworks at the Cairns Show. Our room was comfortable for two people. The bathroom was on the compact side with little room to hang towels so that they would dry. The floor got quite wet as the shower screen didn’t go far enough along the bath (but any further might have made getting in and out difficult). Room servicing seemed to depend on who was doing it – we didn’t get a shower cap or dental kit until the 5th night (not that we needed them), and towels were sometimes changed when not on the floor to be changed. When staying for a week I think you should be entitled to more than one cookie.

Stayed for 6 nights recently and would stay again. Room was clean, spacious and comfortable however bathroom was small.
Buffet breakfast was really good with a great choice of food. The only time we had an issue was our last morning when they didn’t seem to be able to keep food and juice stocked.
The Vine Room served really nice small meals, with a very reasonably priced lunch menu. Happy hour every day is good but the range of available beer is limited.
Staff at both the Atrium buffet and Vine Room are all lovely and friendly.
We had one problem with our room not being serviced one day and I had to ask reception to send the cleaners up. The only reason it was an issue is because the bathrooms are so small you there is no way the towels and bath mat dries properly in that room and need to be changed each day. It was attended to as soon as I mentioned it.
Location is perfect as it’s only a couple of blocks from city centre so away from the noise and the local bats that nest. Close to the lagoon on the esplanade as well.
Overall a good place stay and we would return.

Hi Brisbaneite723 Thanks for the review and a great score! Really pleased you enjoyed our restaurants including breakfast and our funky little wine bar / restaurant - The Vine Room. We are indeed lucky to be so centrally located, just a couple of minutes' walk to many attractions like the Boardwalk and Lagoon, not to mention many bars, restaurants and cafes. Once again thank you for your kind feedback and we know we will see you again soon!

This Hotel is right on the water front giving it the perfect position,we stayed B&B and breakfast was the usual fare with fruit, cereals and cooked.
Our room was big with very two comfortable double beds air conditioning, television, tea and coffee and great pictures on the wall.
The only fault that I could find was that the lighting in the room was poor but this was compensated by the view from the balcony of the water and the rain forest.

The staff were amazing. We arrived at 9:30am after not sleeping much the night before and reception allowed us to check in immediately for no extra charge. We also received free wifi, 2 free bottles of wine, 2 cookies and a cheese platter. On our last day, we were able to check out at 1pm for no extra charge as our flight was at 2:10pm. The buffet breakfast was fantastic and the Vine Room bar downstairs has a happy hour where you can get $5 drinks, and can get food and drinks delivered to the pool area. The location is convenient and picturesque, being opposite the water and walking distance from the centre of Cairns, restaurants, and the marina. The room was small but comfortable. Will be back.

Hi Violetnight83 Thanks for taking the time to leave your review on Tripadvisor. It certainly seems the team really went out of their way to make you feel at home in the hotel and spoiled you with some lovely amenities. We really work hard to make sure guests feel the hotel is a "home away from home" so your comments are especially pleasing. Thanks again and we do look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Stayed in this DoubleTree for 4 nights whilst exploring Cairns and nearby towns. Great location, plenty of shops and restaurants nearby and a short pleasant walk to the port. Staff are excellent and very pleasant. On arrival I needed to park my car, the person at the desk kindly advised me if I park right outside the hotel in the bays in the centre of the road these are free for 24hrs, rather than some hotels which try to con you with their parking charges. I got a space (the same one!) every night we stayed so it's not too difficult to find free parking.
Room itself is large, huge bed with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the city/sea. Building works were ongoing during the day from early morning on the street we were facing but we could barely hear them from our room and weren't woken by them which is definitely a plus. Bathroom however was a little dated and too small. Unfortunately we found this to be a common theme in Australia where the rooms were huge but bathroom sadly barely big enough to move around in.
All in all a pleasant stay, would happily return/recommend.
