Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Clean and comfortable and quiet, conveniently situated particularly if you are attending Cairns Base Hospital. 2 minutes walk to the Cock and Bull Hotel, 200m from a well stocked Night Owls store and petrol station. On site parking a plus. Small continental breakfast is supplied.Room we had has king bed, fridge, sink and microwave etc. Obviously up grading is in progress, the only negative in our unit is the doors s hould be the next upgrade. Regarding booking be aware one site looks like it is a booking site for this motel, be sure you are looking at the true Palms site. We consider it one of the best value for money motels in Cairns.

Nice rooms with microwave and coffee /tea making facilities. Very affordable accommodation with very comfortable beds Paula and the staff went above and beyond to help my family when we were stranded in Cairns due to flooding in Nth Qld. Paula was under the pump with no phones and internet down due to flooding but still managed to be so professional I would highly recommend a stay at Cairns City Palms and I thank her and the friendly welcoming staff who assisted to made our stay relaxing.

Stayed for 7 nights the place is tired and past it’s use by date with very old scratched furniture bathroom needed a good scrub with mould in the shower towels frayed at the edges The bed sheets were not changed at all and replacement towels had to be asked for Very noisy from backpackers next door and passing traffic We arrived before check in time and was promptly told to come back after 2pm when room would be ready we understood that was the case but asked if we could leave our luggage and was directed to a secure backyard in full sun to place it We found it to be very unprofessional and therefore could not recommend it

I saw ‘Cairns City’ in the title & booked, but don’t be fooled like I was as the motel is up in Cairns North, a good 15 minute walk from the Cairns CBD & Esplanade area. The view from my apartment was the Cairns State High football field on Sheridan Street. That said, the motel was decent for the price charged ($180 a night in peak season) and the Wi-fi was strong which was important as I was working remotely for a full day from my room. It’s by no means a modern motel but the room size was adequate & had everything I needed for a short 2 night stay. The room was well prepped, with a fresh tropical coconut fragrance as you walk in. There is a bit of noise from the Main Street outside and you can hear other guests next door from time to time but overall nothing too distracting. There were cafes & shops nearby within walking distance including a bakery 5 minutes up the road which does espresso coffee. But it is not a city motel & without a car it’s a hike to get to the Cairns esplanade/lagoon area where tourists normally go. On the first night I walked into town & saw the laser light show installed for the Cairns Festival near the Pier Bar & had a massage treatment at Foot & Body in Orchid Plaza.

The City Palms Cairns is poorly maintained and really showing its age. From the peeling paint to the rickety exterior staircases, it really needs a complete overhaul. The shower recess in my room was dirty and the rooms were not serviced ever though they advertise as such. I tested them by leaving my towel on the floor for replacement as instructed. It was still there when I returned. To cap it all off the second last night of my stay there was screaming in the early hours, just enough to make sure you were fully awake, but that was nothing compared to the final night when the screaming came again and this time was accompanied by car engines revving and a lot of yelling. No amount of free scones with jam and cream for breakfast would induce me to spend another night there.

Just stayed in this property, sadly it was so below par. We have stayed there many times over the years. We had mentioned different things that did not work in the rooms over the years. Like the fans don’t work except for full blast, the beds are like rocks, the paint is chipped from furniture, doors and walls. I can live with the painting as it’s easy to happen, but the rest, it’s like whichever room we have stayed in downstairs, it’s always the same. When we started staying there it was less than $100.00 per night. We had hoped the problems had been fixed, so thought why not try again, now it’s $140.00 a night and nothing has changed. Very very disappointing indeed.

The king suit was okay however a kitchen was missing however they had a BBQ area to cook meat. The bedding was large and comfy. Staff were extremely helpful and with morning scone, jam and cream or the mini muffins for the late risers were every good. I would recommend the Cairns City Palms for the budget traveler. The hotel does have apartments for the twin and triple which makes cooking in room easier.

We had a two bedroom apartment. Perfect for our two teens who had their own room and beds. The motel and rooms are spotless and freshly updated. Parking is included. This makes a difference to your holiday budget as you’d need to pay for parking at a city central hotel. Location is about a 25min walk or $11 uber from the Cairns harbour / waterfront area. There are plenty of local restaurants and cafes within two blocks of the motel. Staff are welcoming, helpful with bookings and know the local area.

Pleasant motel with nice extra touches. Comfortable beds with cotton sheets and throws if needed. Efficient aircon and plenty of space in the apartment. Kitchenette was very useful and there are excellent takeaways nearby. I expect the parking can be tight, but we didn’t have a car so not an issue for us. We used the pool, which was a reasonable size, very clean and comfortable temperature. Very clean apartment, kitchenette had been refurbished more recently than the bathroom which was looking a little tired, but plenty of hot water and pressure was good. Wifi was excellent and staff efficient and helpful. We arrived early from the airport and they stored our bags until check in time. We found it good value for money.
