Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

For 88 dollars, I could complain too much. The sink is painfully small, so brush your teeth in the shower.
Only concern was the sheets have clearly not been changed for a while...a distinctive crusty substance let me know a male had been there, yeah I know, not great, so I pull the sheet off very quickly.

Stayed here to access the city and had a long walk along the river and up a very steep climb to the top to get to the Hotel lugging my bags and cameras walking from the station. Room was a short space bigger than a double bed with a very tiny bathroom and shower. I liked the jug and tea and coffee but missed having a window. The room was clean and the bed comfortable and it was adequate for an overnight stopover. There is a bus stop almost opposite and the views from the cliffs across the road are amazing

The hotel is in a useful location close to the centre of Brisbane. Rooms are basic but satisfactory. Toiletries etc are supplied which is good in this price range. Although the address is Main Street, vehicle access and parking is round the back in a tiny street called End Street that may or may not be in GPS. The accommodation is in two converted houses next to each other.

Please please do NOT stay here. Photos online are NOT accurate. The building is absolutely falling apart, full of mould and foul odour. I felt incredibly unsafe and did not sleep at all. People were screaming/shouting, banging doors and walking up and down the corridors all night, I suspect drugs and alcohol were heavily involved as the whole location feels like a drug house. I feared for the safety of myself and my friend and we left without completing our second night - sleeping in the airports terminal will be much more comfortable.

We are currently staying at The Cliff House. We read the reviews and decided to give it a go. Johnston, the new owner, has only taken over the place about 6 weeks. An absolute gentleman and you can see that he is making improvements and has plans to paint etc. We are from the Gold Coast and after short term accommodation, 4 nights a week til Xmas, great location and worth giving it a go as we will be here 4 nights a week til Xmas. Our room is clean, tidy and the fridge TV and air con all work well. Have not had one issue. And off street parking - well worth the visit.

This is by far the worst dive I have ever had the misfortune to stay in. The entire building is filthy. I mean really really filthy. The bed was like a rock, the aircon did work a bit but not well and was very noisy. There was no curtain in the room only a broken blind and a light outside the window. It was like daylight all night in the room. I saw cockroaches running around. There was banging and crashing and yelling all night, not just from one room of unruly guests but up and down the hallway. This place is so bad I left after 1 night even though I had paid for 2. I can’t be bothered trying to get a refund, I just cut my losses and ran. I didn’t expect the Hilton but this place is like a 1980s boarding house or a doss house for homeless men.

Spent less than 1 minute in the room. The smell, the mould, the peeling paint and torn carpet. Yes it is a budget property but basic cleanliness has been avoided for quite a while. Spend a little more and go elsewhere Staff were disinterested and didn’t seem to care

ROACHES everywhere. I felt very unsafe. I did not complete the rest of my stay here and moved to a different place. UNCLEAN. There was grime all over the bathroom. The bathroom cupboard is rotting. There were patches of paint on the walls covering something up. I couldn't use the air conditioner as the remote provided was for a different system. There was no manual button panel on the air conditioner and it was covered in packaging tape. The electric kettle and hair dryer are basic and are from KMart. I could hardly get fresh air as the windowsill was also filthy. The worst thing was finding a squashed cockroach in the corner of the room that hadn't been cleaned off. AVOID.

I wish I had read the reviews before booking! The manager seemed incompetent, there was security issues (external doors to each block left open and non-guests coming in and out), was unclean, very small rooms, internet not working, cigarette and BO smells and noisy guests. The shared kitchen was absolutely disgusting. We left at 5am just to get out of there.

Absolutely daunting walking in there with my partner, Fist hole & head hole patchups in the walls, shower door replaced with mouldy shower curtains. The aircon was unusable as it was mouldy inside with black foul sticky mould. 1 coffee mug with a jug that wouldn't reach the power point. Dust with an empty wine bottle under bed. Place almost knocked me over with the smell of bleach yet the room was filthy. Bed was just springs. We slept with our own blanket on top & still barely slept. Left first thing in the morning. The experience was very traumatic & felt very eerie that something bad had happened there. 😳 No thanks. Could say more but I'll stop there. #crackhouse
