Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

By far the worst hostel I’ve stayed in along the east coast. Kitchen was absolutely filthy, many of the guests are long term and therefore the fridges and storage in the kitchen was full. Fridges we’re never emptied/ cleaned. Dirty pots/pans everywhere. Room was filthy with hair all over the floor and bugs. One plug socket to charge electronics per room. Mixed gendered bathrooms with disgusting showers that hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. I would completely avoid, I’m sure there are much better places in Brisbane to stay for far less money.

It wasn’t the most social hostel I’ve been to and hardly anyone there is travelling, usually staying for work. The rooms are not very nice, very basic but well air conditioned. The view and pool makes it worth it though, as well as the cafe and boxing classes that are available for $10.

We stayed in a 5 bed dorm and it appeared 3 of the guests were long term stayers. They had unpacked their entire bag contents, even had books laid out on the shelving and were utilising all of the plug sockets for their appliances. Beds were comfy and air-con in the room worked well however there was a pair of dirty socks stuffed down the side of one of the ‘clean’ beds set out for our use. Bathrooms were clean and fit for purpose. Kitchen was the same as any other hostel we’ve stayed in - covered in oil splatter and dirty dishes where people can obviously not clean up after themselves!! The fridges/food storage was VERY full as well so left little room for our bits - again I suspect the long term stayers had a lot of this occupied. You had to rent the cutlery/dishes to eat your food from which is a good system for those who refuse to wash up! There’s no ‘lights out’ policy and people in our dorm were going to wash their hair at 11:30pm meaning the lights didn’t go off til about midnight. - again I guess this behaviour is expected from hosteling! The staff however were very welcoming and friendly - couldn’t fault them at all! We were able to leave our bags in the store room before/after check in/out which was really handy. The pool and chill out areas looked really nice! - not a huge amount of seating for socialising.. The hostel is a 10 minute walk from the train station however is a 20 minute walk into the busy part of the city. Not sure we’d come back to be honest.

Room Tip: Reception staffed until midnight. Nearby bus stops. Need a ‘go card’ to use any public...

Simple accommodation that was very clean and walking distance to where we needed to go (Suncorp Stadium). We stayed in an ensuite room which was comfortable and seemed to have been recently painted. Bathroom was basic but had everything we needed. Staff were also very friendly and helpful and I loved the communal outdoor areas which looked welcoming of a day and had spectacular views of the city lights of a night. Only 2 small issues I had: * Parking was limited and very tight. Our little focus had to do a 12-point turn to get into one of the carparks. Tip: reverse into your spot if you can. * Trying to access reception to check in was near impossible. Reception is behind a locked security door and although there is a buzzer - I’m not convinced it works because I waited to be let in for a GOOD 5+ minutes which is a long time when you’re parked in a tow-away zone wanting to get in, check in and move your car as quickly as possible. Overall though, I’d stay in an ensuite room at this accommodation again. Thank you for a pleasant stay :)

We stayed here for a week when our flight home got cancelled. Very friendly and cooperative staff. Great views on the terrace and we had a lovely 2 person en-suite with airco and tv for a good price! This place was really our rescue in the covid-19 crisis. Many thanks to all staff ❤️. We got home safe 😊

Pros - Room was clean Bed was comfortable Cons - Other people were loud in the corridors Bathrooms could do with a bit of an update Check in staff were not the friendliest This hostel feels like it's more aimed towards 18 year olds looking for a place to crash after a night on the booze

We had a fantastic stay at Citybackpackers HQ in Brisbane!! It's the ideal location in Brisbane with easy walking access to everything the city has to offer. Friendly Faye checked us in at the Reception desk and gave us drink/food tokens for the evening, drew out a route on the map for us to explore Brisbane city by day and night, including free things to do which were extremely helpful! Faye showed us around the hostel, where the communal kitchen is located, the cafe, bar and the rooftop pool! Amazing! And the rooftop deck where everyone is chilling, drinking and eating with a stunning river view of Brisbane's city. Citybackpackers has a great vibe, we only wish we had a few more days to soak up this lively hostel. We stayed in a private room, which was super spacious, a fridge, chair, TV and wardrobe. The bathroom is separate with toilet, sink and shower with steaming hot water! Everything is super clean with modern amenities. We'll certainly be back visiting Citybackpackers next time we are in Brisbane! Thanks for having us :)

Staff were friendly, the outside common area was nice and busy, and the air con was very nice. The rooms are pretty basic, and walls are very thin, so if someone showers while you’re trying to sleep it’ll be quite loud. Bath rooms were even more basic, I wouldn’t have wanted to go in the shower without Flipflops.. The car park has a very steep drive up/down it, and you have to keep your keys with reception, as there aren’t enough bays so they may need to move your car, which made us a little nervous with the steep ramp (but was ok in the end). 15/20 Minute walk from the centre, which isn’t too bad.

i stayed in this hostel for months while working in brisbane. before this i traveled all over australia for 5 months staying in so many different hostels i am confident to say this is by far the cleanest and most well kept hostel and the owner always try to make sure that everyone is happy with their stay. a bar onsite makes it a great way to meet other travellers and make friends. big kitchen and let’s mention the most stunning view over brisbane during night. perfect location. 15 min walk to city or southbank. and coles just 2min, just need to cross the road.
