Only downside, they could probably do with more staff in the restaurant with breakfast, it was obvious that the staff working were really really busy. One or two extras would of meant a clean table and uneaten food being removed. :)
A frantic email to Kristian Lindhe - GM and then discussions with Angie Rayner- Reservations Manager not only secured us a 1 bedroom apartment from Dec 24 to Dec 28 but also a spot on the Croft House for Christmas lunch on Dec 25..
As an Accor Gold member I was upgraded to a premium 1 bedroom apartment on arrival, which had plenty of room for the two of us and apparently the sofa bed is great to sleep on.
On Christmas eve we ate in Croft House and had the steak which was great and so was the service, very attentive.
Christmas day lunch was fabulous, we sat at the window looking out over Charlotte Street.. Great service again from the ladies who gave up their Christmas to look after us, this didnt go unnoticed. An amazing 4 courses commencing with a platter of cold meats, then a selection of seafood, traditional ham and turkey followed up with individual pavlovas and puddings made for a great afternoon. Great wine and beer to wash it all down.
Breakfast at Crofts is great also but appears to fill quickly.
The Sebel is in a great central location close to Queen Streel Mall, Eagle Street Pier.
I have no hesitation in recommending the Sebel Brisbane and so glad we had Christmas there.
A big thank you to Kristian and Angie for their assistance, best wished for 2021.
The rooms including apartments with laundry, and a shower cubicle set upon a bathtub. The apartment stretches from a living area, small kitchenette and separate bedroom with an adjuvant bathroom and toilets.
However when we arrived, there was no room available for us ready despite being past the 2pm check in. We were then offered a room on a lower level, which again wasn’t ready but we were offered standard welcome drink vouchers as part our Accor membership. No acknowledgement of our membership or honeymoon was made.
When we arrived in the room, it was perfunctory - decent views of the cross river rail construction site from the balcony and a working washing machine in a small kitchenette. There’s a small couch and a tv. The bath robes were surprising soft. Parking was charged, and we found it cheaper and more affordable to go off site.
We had minimal interaction from the staff, and our apartment had its daily housekeeping skipped without informing. When inquired with the front of house staff member on, they blamed us for not being there when they “called the room”, despite us being in the room most of the day. When I suggested we could also be emailed with any communications, they ignored my feedback. No manager was on to forward my concerns. Again, no membership or honeymoon recognition was made. For a trip that is to stay with the rest of our lives, we were not made to feel welcome or comfortable. There was no opportunity to leave feedback either at reception or by the usual post stay accommodation survey.
The accommodation is saved by its restaurant, the Croft house with well made dishes, which is to be commended despite the poor service received in the hotel. Accor plus dining discounts are approved.
People would go out of their way to stay in Brisbane at the Sebel, even for a honeymoon experience. What I would encourage is that you don’t decide to stay at the Sebel for a honeymoon experience, given the above experience. When communication and feedback can’t be sought to improve this, it reflects poorly for guests and the company.
2/5 stars, Accor Gold Plus member (at the time).
The largest disappointment, easily, was the breakfast. The café, although joined to the hotel, needs to be accessed via the street (I am guessing COVID related measures). There is no signage in the foyer to direct you, and when I was there, no staff to guide you either. After finding it, the menu was limited and the eggs benedict I ordered looked like I had made them at home.
If you do stay here, highly recommend eating elsewhere as there are a host of quality cafes in short walking distance. I just chose the bed/breakfast rate on business trips purely for convenience.
upon checking into our room I noticed that the sofa bed was made up. I went to reception and advised that the Sofa bed was actually for the room that I had booked for the one night. Apparently, the team member on reception updated this and made a note on the booking. However that did not happen and when my Aunty got back to her room at midnight the sofabed was not made up and she couldnt be bothered ringing housekeeping to have this made up. Disappointing considering I made a note on the booking and also went to reception to advise aswell.
The carpark is tight so be aware if you have a larger car.
The lifts are having an upgrade and nothing is mentioned in your prebooking regarding this so be prepared for a wait. We were on the 27th Floor and it was painful at times waiting for the lift when only one was working.
The restaurant is at the side of the of the hotel and members of the public do eat there and grab their morning coffee. It is not big and the tables dont leave a lot of room to move around. The staff there really let the hotel down. Not sure if they are Sebel staff or not however the 3 times we ate breakfast here there was an issue every time. The staff clealy need more training.
The rooms itself was spacious and suited our needs with a infant to be able to fit the portacot and have a washing machine and space for the baby to move around. The pool is good and they have a wading type pool aswell that is 30cms which suited us for the baby.
Overall the hotel is central and clean and was value for money during the week before Christmas however the staff clearly need more training.
I would give this hotel another go just to see if it was a once off
Also the pool was definately not warm enough to swim in so that was also a disapointment.
We ate down in the restaurant for dinner one night. Food was fine but one whole main ingredient was left off the plate on 2 dishes and so by the time it was cooked and put on the plate it sort of wrecked the moment because the rest of us had finished our food.
I thought that with the lock down behind us they would have been keen to get going again and have satisfied customers.
