Having stayed here before we had higher expectations than what was delivered. As a titanium elite member we stay frequently in Marriott hotels, and unfortunately what let the Westin down was its service in F and B. Check in was fine albeit awkward as there’s limited room at the check in area and when busy it gets cramped. They had someone offering welcome drinks which was nice but if not cleaning up the glasses etc quickly it just looked untidy. The gentleman who checked us in was fantastic lovely natured and seemed to genuinely love his job and he strongly recommended the upgraded breakfast which thanks to his personality we took. (More on this later). I would suggest some bilingual staff, or at least some cultural sensitivity training, as the lady checking people in beside us, wasn’t exactly the most patient nor accommodating with some Chinese and Korean guests checking in. Working abroad I often have bad difficulties communicating at check in and usually staff are flexible, understanding and friendly. She was not. The room was lovely and modern spacious. Beautifully designed. Cannot fault the room, there was no body wash in the dispenser, after calling for it to be replaced they bought two little bottles of the old style travel ones. Unsure why they couldn’t refill the dispenser. Also the dispensers were different. The shampoo were the grey one like at Sheraton whilst the body wash and conditioner were different brands. It’s small details like this that hi-light a lack of supervision and care. Pool area is lovely limited bedding for such a large hotel but manageable. There was some Maldives thing going which meant cabanas were part of a promotion and non useable. Gym was well Equipped and maintained. The executive lounge saved our experience (without it you’d be one star). The staff were genuinely phenomenal and knew their job. Biggest regret of the stay is not eating breakfast there TBH. I am unsure of the names but the staff working on the 10th February 2024 were fantastic. The young woman who was taking drink orders and helping guests was attentive and genuinely friendly. Always having a smile and chat with guests. Genuine service! Asset to the hotel. Breakfast on the other hand was appalling. We invited my family to join us upon the strong recommendations of this breakfast from your hotel. Firstly it’s a small cramped room that was too busy for its size, the food itself was minimal. How is it upgraded there were no international varieties of food. Basic bread salad cold cuts and some bacon. Which in itself you’d overlook (though I am surprised a 5 star Marriott property is so lacking in international mindedness, perhaps it’s stuck in its domestic tourism Covid mindset), were it not for the appalling level of customer service. Check in for breakfast on the 11th February was fine, no recognition of names etc (something we are accustomed to in other properties) dropped at table and ordered a coffee. My family arrived and paid 45$ for breakfast. Way overpriced, go to the city and have if you’re reading this and contemplating. Whilst getting the food it was with great displeasure I had to hear about the private life of staff and their weekend proclivities as they congregated around the coffee area, the overtly flamboyant gentleman in the white shirt reassuring his colleagues on why they were not successful in their partnering experiences should have perhaps spent more time on the fact that the food was not looking fresh and needed restocking. I am unsure why staff don’t seem to wear name badges here especially the orange shirt workers, perhaps it’s the lack of service and desire to be held to limited accountability? After already being disgusted at the causal and unprofessional conversations (not at all quietly) I retreated to my table where I attempted to get service from wait staff for ordering eggs. After three goes a young Asian waiter approached asked “what do you want” (apart from service??). I asked to order eggs to which he replied yes which ones! In a rude and monotonous tone. My partner who is not Australian nor a native English speaker required to know what was available however the waiter spoke in a rushed and irritated tone impatiently clicking to get it done. At the end of the order he asked have u had coffee to which we replied we ordered quite some time ago actually. His response - well it takes quite some time you know. I am uncertain as to who is in charge of day to day running of the restaurant but staff training, food variety, presentation and quality are all Lacking in the restaurant. If like us you have elite status I’d recommend skipping the main breakfast and doing the lounge. If you’re contemplating paying skip it. The regret of that stay is having my family pay for that sub par service and meal. Overall the hotel looks the part but it’s just lacking in internationalism. It’s not up to the usual Marriott standards. Perhaps it’s a Brisbane thing, I don’t know. It just doesn’t have the same professional vibe I’ve come to expect it seems rather causal and laidback for a place that costs what the Westin does.

Response from Four Points and Westin Brisbane, Owner at The Westin Brisbane

Dear I1476PCroberts, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback following your recent stay at The Westin Brisbane. Providing the highest level of hospitality is our number one priority and I sincerely apologise for failing to meet your expectations. This is certainly not the standard that we strive to achieve and these shortfalls obviously impacted negatively on your stay. We pride ourselves on our quality of service and I regret that we "dropped the ball" on a number of occasions. You raise some very valid points along with thorough and constructive feedback which I can assure you is definitely taken on board. Unfortunately, I cannot offer any excuses for the situations that you encountered, however, this has highlighted areas that require further improvement and additional training will be undertaken to rectify these situations happening in the future. I realise we cannot undo what has happened and understand that this has left you with a negative impression, however, we value your support and patronage as a Titanium Elite Marriot Bonvoy member and we do hope that you will stay with us again when you are next travelling to Brisbane to give us the opportunity to prove that we are capable of much better and to restore your confidence in our brand, product and service. Kind regards Brad Mercer Complex General Manager

I was impressive with club lounge because of its affluent happy hour and breakfast. The outdoor pool was very attractive and charming. Each day I spent 2 hours in pool area. I received a room upgrade to a suite which was luxurious and comfortable.

I always try and stay with one of the Marriott brands as we have titanium status and that gives some excellent benefits. We had been travelling from the UK for about 36 hours by the time we arrived at the hotel and our upgraded suite was ready for us. We were ready to relax and the Club Lounge beckoned. What an excellent lounge it was! Quite spacious with views over the pool and the refreshments were some of the best that we have experienced. The items available were kept well stocked and there were staff on hand to refresh drinks. Don’t miss the breakfast here! The hotel itself and the rooms were very clean and well maintained. The only irritating point is the limited access when arriving … however, we arrived by taxi so the only annoyance was waiting for the car in front to clear the drop-off area. All staff that we encountered were very friendly and helpful.

Most recent stay was in Dec 2023... it was a bit of a drop in form for a normally great hotel to stay at. Nothing horrible happened, but frustration was caused by the front desk/admin. I booked 1 particular package deal via the bonvoy app but upon arrival they had myself down for another package. I followed up via the app as the foyer was very busy. After some back and forward (including emailing my confirmation email to them to prove that they made an error), I was told that booking was updated to the correct package. Upon check-out, my bill arrived via the app and I discovered that i was overcharged/incorrectly billed. Again.. I had to reach out to have it corrected, which it was. Another drop in form, normally upon my arrival into my room, we are generally welcomed by a letter/gift in the room for being a Marriott Bonvoy Elite member, this time.. nothing. (We did receive our upgrade inline with our elite level benefit). We did receive 10,000 Marriott Bonvoy Points as a sorry from the hotel. Other than that above frustrations, the stay was good.. the lounge staff were great as always, the room clean, comfortable and spacious. The hotel was very busy this stay, so some services were delayed but was okay/within. The stay overall was fine, just a drop in form by a great hotel.. hopefully it was a once off and they return to form upon my next stay.

5 day stay here that was very comfortable. As I always write in these reviews, having Bonvoy status really helps when staying at Marriott propoerties and we were upgraded to a suite on this stay which makes a lot of difference to the stay of course and may color this review somewhat. More on the room in a minute. This hotel is on Mary Street which is nice and central for Brisbane, very close to the mall and generally easy to walk around this pleasant city which, with its river frontages, is very walkable in the center. Arrival by car presents one with a small, tight drop off area where you really can't linger. We actually parked our car elsewhere on this stay but there is a garage under the hotel but as always, I balk at the cost of such parking even though I realize it is standard for a city center hotel. Check in was efficient but the service was somewhat cursory and rather unsmiling. Indeed, when one enters the hotel the greetings from the front desk are somewhat perfunctory. Not rude, but a little standoffish. This is a minor issue since the hotel is very well appointed and generally the service is prompt and efficient. We had two rooms here and both were very comfortable. The suite in particular had a huge bathroom with a soaking tub as well as a shower in the same wet area. It is difficult to explain but works well. There was a lack of hot water the first morning we were there which was subsequently rectified without us having to mention it so was probably a glitch of some sort. It shouldn't happen of course but nothing is perfect. There is a seperate toilet that can be closed off and accessed from outside the bathroom which is a nice touch, unique to suites I am guessing since there is more room to play with. The living area was well thought out with a table and chaise/sofa and was a pleasant place to hang out. The rooms we had were well equipped with ironing board, safe, coffee/tea making facilities etc. All rooms are accessed by a panel outside the door that unlocks with the wave of a key. Do not disturb is activated from a button inside that turns a light red on the key panel and it works well. There is also a blue light, the meaning of which we never figured out but I think that may mean you are declining housekeeping so beware if you activate that inadvertently. There is an efficient bank of elevators/lifts that whisk you to your floors of choice without delay. Access to floors is controlled by your key so you can only access public spaces (the lounge, pool floors etc.) and the floor on which your room is located. This is a good security device but has to be worked around if you have two rooms on seperate floors, as we did. The view from our room, and I am guessing the hotel in general isn't spectacular, nestling as the building does within a high rise sector of the city and away from the river. Not horrible, just not brilliant. There is an excellent M club lounge here should your status get you in there, serving a strong breakfast selection and overlooking the infinity pool. I don't really swim but the pool looked very attractive and is replete with a swim up bar which is always fun. This speaks to the overall well-appointed nature of the hotel as befits it's class. I would stay here again for sure, it is a very good choice in central Brisbane I think.

Great location on Mary Street, 2 blocks from the Queen Street Mall. Great service from the Concierge on arrival. Valet parking is $55 per day geat value for a city hotel. Wonderful corner room on level 14 with Club Lounge access. Very comfortable bed and large bathroom with rainforest shower. Club Lounge has a very good selection of canapes and a substantial buffet breakfast. I have found my new favourite hotel in Brisbane.

Checkin: terrible. Was told I’d be contacted when room was ready. 90mins later I approached the desk for an eta “oh that room is ready”. Hmm Room: underwhelming. View of close, adjacent buildings on “executive floor”. Tiny, boring space with zero character. Restaurant: buffet breakfast. Lots to choose from, but very little flavour. Not much fruit. Service fair. Pool: tiny, not enough lounges, noisy, dirty. Not particularly kid friendly either . . . Parking: valet only. No thanks. OVERALL: 3/10. For similar price and the best pool - go to W 7/10. For Brisbane’s best with epic infinity pool with even less lounges … - Emporium Southbank 8.5/10 (but you pay more for the privilege)

The room is great. I was under the impression the Westin was a five star hotel. I arrived late due to the storms disrupting flights. I just needed a bed and some room service. No after hours menu. The Westin has no after hours food. I was directed to a fast food establishment. The hotel is comfortable. I just find it strange that this hotel can’t offer food 24hours like other 5 star hotel chains.

This has got to be the best five star hotel in Brisbane. It’s value for money. Excellent comfortable room. Fantastic service and staff. Delicious breakfast. Central location and convenient to all shops and supermarkets in the city. Amazing and very polite employees. They even surprised my wife on her 50th birthday with a cake and champagne in our room. She was extremely happy. Thank you Westin Brisbane, we will come again.
