We were impressed with the price of the room, and the facilities. The rooms are renovated and very comfortable. There is no air-conditioning in the queen plus a single bed room, (which we knew when booking), but at this time of the year, (late September)it was perfect for us, we didn't even need a fan. There is a toaster and kettle provided, as well as basic crockery for 3 people. No cooking utensils are provided in the rooms, choose a self-contained apartment if you need that. The bathroom was very clean and nicely renovated. All shampoo/ conditioner, soap, body wash and moisturiser are provided in canisters on the wall. The room was spacious and comfortable, one very comfy chair was included too. We were able to eat our meals at the breakfast table in the room. We requested a microwave, and our room had one. Highly recommend the resort, it is a great location to do some southern attractions (Lake Mackenzie, Central Station, Lake Birrabeen), and we also went across to the west coast one day, and up to Eli Creek, and the Maheno wreck on another. It is great that the resort has had an excellent renovation, highly recommended.

Absolutely Fabulous 👌...
Could not have asked for better!
Thank You Brad, Brooke, Tahnee, Georgia and Emily (who prepped our drinks).
We've just been over to K'gari for a couple of days to celebrate our 40th Wedding anniversary. Stayed at K'gari Beach Resort and during the course of our dinner just happened to mention what we were there to celebrate.
Around this time the kitchen must have gone into full on preparation mode, cos on requesting coffee before our departure were totally surprised with a board with the words "HAPPY ANNIVERSARY" written on it in chocolate plus a delightful dessert.
Coffee was 'on the house' along with a bottle of bubbly.
So, Thank you McKenzie's On 75 and especially once again the wonderful staff .... Brad, Brooke, Tahnee, Georgia and Emily.
We very highly recommend McKenzie's on 75 and K'gari Beach Resort.
Thank You
Chris and June

The "resort" - the title is a little overblown - is actually a kind of oasis on the east coast of the island, about 40 km north of the southern tip. These are several three-storey buildings with spacious rooms (many with kitchenettes) arranged around a central restaurant and pool.

There is also a general store (which really has an incredible amount of things you need on the island), a bakery and a small petrol station (belongs to the general store).

Reception: very friendly, very quick, all good
Restaurant: high prices (logical), very friendly, limited menu

Rooms:
We had two bedrooms, a spacious bathroom with two vanities, a living room with attached balcony. Everything very spartanly decorated but perfectly ok for this location.

Comments:
1) Extreme noise pollution on an evening by a group of teenagers (drunk) was stopped late
2) the kitchenette - although equipped with microwave - was extremely poorly stocked (four glasses, three spoons, three knives...)
3) The price of accommodation is hefty (AUD 295 / night) - but this is logically due to the location. Everything has to be driven over the beach.

Those who don't feel like camping are well served by KGari Beach Resort. A reputable offer, appropriate to the place, with supply.

We would definitely use it again.

K’gari means paradise. This was not that.

The rooms are spacious and clean but feel empty, like someone moving out who’s sold or packed all their stuff. Some artificial plants, a full length mirror, a big rug and some colour of pictures in the wall would’ve made a big difference.

There is only one restaurant, with limited options and at a steep price point, especially considering the quality of the food. And if you don’t book? You have to sit in the “entertainment” area

Finding info in advance was a challenge. We’d used their offer of “stay 3, ferry free” and it was only when arranging the ferry with them that we found out we needed a car to get to the island. We knew the island only allowed for 4WDs but not that we couldn’t get to the resort without one. Would we have been told if we hadn’t booked the ferry with them?? 4WD hire on the island is very expensive. There is also only one taxi on the island so if it’s already booked or the owners are on holiday, you would be stuck.

The pool area didn’t leave much to be desired. The pool itself looked lovely but was cold. No pool towels provided. The poolside area was swarming with ants who had no concerns in crawling all over your lounger and you.

Booking tours? We’re still not sure how this was such a challenge considering it was so easy to book a day trip with tours. Why can’t guests staying on the island, investing more into the island, be able to book a simple tour? The resort had tour buses stopping by non-stop during the day but we still don’t know how you’d get on one. We asked the hotel staff who looked at us blankly like we’d asked how to get to the moon. Obviously if you have a 4WD, you can get around yourself.

And a heads up to those who also like clear information. The journey from either jetty to the resort is a very bumpy one. If you struggle with travel sickness, take your tablets or whatever you need

Dear Shivani, Thank you for taking the time to post a review and for completing our survey. We are disappointed to hear of your experience, this certainly is not the feedback that many of our valued guests provide. Your feedback on the in-room décor is most valuable, we’ll use this constructively as we continue with our accommodation upgrades. Thank you. Pool towels are available at reception as stated in your arrival letter. Tours absolutely can be booked to depart from and return to K’gari Beach Resort, but this is quite irregular as most guests that stay at the resort are either self-driving or already on one our tours. Itineraries and specific timing for touring products that depart from and return to K’gari Beach Resort will vary day to day and depend on tides and weather. As you've acknowledged, K’gari Beach Resort is only accessible by 4WD. Frankly speaking, no area of our website or the package you selected reads that transfers to the resort are provided. In fact, many areas of the website including the package you booked clearly state that guests must have their own 4WD or arrange 4WD hire. After booking, a disclaimer to this effect was also provided in your confirmation letter. We believe that many of your concerns would have been resolved by reviewing information on our website or conducting prior research. For instance, our website does state that we have one restaurant (menu and pricing included), a general store and bakery. As with any destination, it is the responsibly of travellers to do their research and preparation accordingly. Should you have the opportunity to return to K’gari in the future, please note that our sister resort, Kingfisher Bay Resort is suitable for guests that do not have a 4WD as the ferry accesses the resort directly. It also has multiple restaurants, and tours regularly start and finish here. Thank you again for sharing your feedback and we wish you all the best in your future travels.

The resort is bare basics accommodation that charges like a 5 star resort. You have to upgrade your room just to get airconditioning. The rooms are very noisy. Its like living inside a drum. Forcing guests to empty their own bins and clean their own plates, cups etc before leaving or charging extra. Plates and cups at the restaurant are mostly dirty. Have to go searching for clean plates and cups at breakfast. Guests are treated like an inconvenience.

Dear Steven, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are disappointed to hear of your dissatisfaction in your recent stay with us. Guest leaving unhappy is never our intention. We understand that our team made attempts to discuss your comments upon your departure and we regret not having the opportunity to address your concerns whilst you were with us. It is correct that our King Hotel Rooms and King Apartments offer full reverse cycle air-conditioning, as well as many other upgraded features and do incur an upgrade fee as such. Additionally, it is an industry standard for any fees to apply for excess rubbish and mess left in the accommodation. We would like to again apologise for any confusion regarding this policy. We also regret that you found our accommodation to be basic. We are continuously working on upgrading our facilities and amenities to provide a better experience for our guests and we are often commended for our incredible beachfront location, BBQ facilities, pool and friendly staff. On behalf of all of us, we wish you all the best in your future travels.

An overnight stay in a well sized motel type room. Newly renovated bathroom was very good with hot water and good pressure. We had a buffet lunch and breakfast which were above average and the evening meal was good value considering where we were. We didn’t have time to frequent to bakery or liquor store.
Staff were very accommodating as we needed a shower after our swim in Eli creek and even though we were no longer guests the outdoor showers were unlocked for our use.
Overall a great stay

For roughly $400 a night, we were surprised to find:

- a room without air conditioning (we can only imagine how this might feel in summer)

- curtains so worn and a curtain rod so corroded that they couldn’t be closed properly

- a TV that was useless due to no reception

- guests being asked to clean their own dishes and take out the rubbish upon departure

- dark staircases with broken lights

- a 45-minute to one-hour wait for food at the restaurant

- unmotivated restaurant staff who told us they were 'very busy, even if it doesn’t look like it.'

On the positive side:

- the room was clean and the bed comfortable

- the bathroom was relatively new

On the mainland, this would be a $120 motel room at best. Even with the typical island markup, a rate around $200 would be more appropriate—certainly not $400.

Dear Oliver, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We sincerely apologise for the issues you encountered during your stay. Whilst our standard rooms are fitted with ceiling fans, we do offer King Hotel Rooms and King Apartments. These King rooms and apartments do feature reverse cycle air-conditioning. We noticed you made your booking via a 3rd party booking website and we apologise if the option for air-conditioning was not available. Your comments are invaluable to us as we strive to improve our services, and we have raised your feedback with senior management. On a positive note, we are glad you found the room clean and the bed comfortable, and that you appreciated the new bathroom. We thank you for your balanced feedback. The dining room experience was fantastic due to a couple of your waiters and staff and the breakfast buffet was excellent.

Jeanie one of your waiters was absolutely fantastic! She was always friendly, always helpful, always smiling and her charisma was extremely welcoming and very professional!
Jeanie was very quick witted with a joke and always offering advice for around the resort and things to do on the island. We were fortunate enough to have Jeanie every morning for breakfast as well as one day when we visited the bakery.

Luke was another waiter who also was extremely professional, welcoming, consistently checking on our meals and offering service at every possible moment.
He was fantastic on offering advice from the menu not just for me but also my 2 boys aged 9 and 11.
He would be very quick to fill your glass with water as soon as you sat down and even my youngest boy said at one point “ I like this guy dad, he makes you feel important”.
The professionalism shown between Luke and Jeanie was 2nd to none and even Jeanie joked with me “you like the Brits” to which I laughed and replies “well now I do”.
I last but not least do not want to leave out the bar staff. They were also very friendly, helpful, and a pleasure to be around during my stay.

Had a wonderful overnight stay at K’gari beach resort during our 2 days on this majestic island. The restaurant offered a good variety of food for our buffet breakfast and lunch. Dinner was very good quality with a variety of choices and higher prices were expected due to the location but we thought it reasonable. The large motel style room with kitchenette was of average quality but comfortable. Quite well appointed. Bathroom looked recently renovated and was excellent with good water pressure and plenty of hot water.

We had a beautiful apartment on the 2nd floor with a great beach view. The apartment’s floor wasn’t clean on arrival, but got addressed straight away. The furniture was modern and new, the beds comfortable, the balcony huge and the bathroom had a big shower, two sinks and mirrors and was equipped with shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, soap and body lotion. The bedrooms seem to have windows to keep the noise out. No aircon, but didn’t need one. Has fans. The kitchen was nice and new as well. Only needs an upgrade on dining set and cooking equipment. Overall a great place to come back to and relax after exploring the island.

Their website says on request .. Subject to availability.. that's flights or tours .. 4wd hire is best done from hervey bay ... there were plenty of offerings when I was there .. .. check with the operators if u can pick it up on island .

We stayed in a standard room that was towards the rear of the property, on the second floor (there are 3 floors) and overlooking the pool. We didn't find the resort too noisy, yes there will be tour buses but not ridiculously early or late. The staff are very accommodating so if you are concerned about noisy guests etc, give them a call and address your concerns. I am sure they would do what 5hey can to help. Don't miss out, it's well worth it in my opinion. We had a wonderful stay. All the best.

Hi, it is a long trip, tide dependant and you will need a vehicle and suitable skills to navigate Ngkala Rocks. It is too beautiful up there to rush, the lighthouse and military remains to deserve time, as do the fishing, sandcliffs, and waters. The last time we were up there, our guests were even swimming with Turtles, a surreal experience if ever there was one. My suggestion is to break your trip up.
