Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

blonde lady delivering food needs to get off her phone! terrible customer service skills! food however was awesome. big steak and cooked to perfection. credit to chefs casual atmosphere and great addition of live music with a shared smoking area.

So friendly and accommodating. Really appreciated all the effort and attention we receive. It may not be modern and flashy but it is great. Rooms are clean and beds comfortable. The pool is not freezing and lots of toys for the kids to hop on. I appreciate the communal kitchen but haven’t used it. Hotel caters for a variety of travellers.

The closest pub to our hotel, so it became our ‘local’ for three days. It’s quite big by Darwin standards, clean and civilised (loud but calm, no hassles). Drink prices, especially wines, are better than Sydney and the food menu is varied, good, fresh and serves are generous. The staff are friendly, efficient and fortunately lack ‘attitude’. Big TV screens everywhere but all showing sport or Keno… Recommended if you’re in this part of town.

I stayed at the Cavenagh Hotel two different times (2 different rooms) on my recent stay in Darwin. It had come highly recommended. Check in/Reception: Very friendly and informative. Big thanks to Joy-Joy. Room 1 (11): Only stayed 1 night. Large sized room with all amenities. Large screen TV, Queen sized bed, carpet, ensuite of good size. Large bottle of iced water ready in fridge which was very welcome. Old style cupboard. Above the outdoor dining/music area with a view of the pool. Room 2 (35): Large sized room with all amenities, hardwood floors, large screen TV, desk with chair, queen sized bed, balcony overlooking the pool/outdoor dining area, ensuite. Location: Right in the centre of town. Great location, close to tourist attractions and shopping including smith street mall, as well as the dining/club district of mitchell street, close to bus terminus. Price/value: Height of tourist season, so a little high priced. Average motel style but renovated rooms. Food: Great pub style food with great selection including the favourites. Apparently best steak in Darwin! (although I never tried these). Reasonable prices. Overall an excellent choice. Music goes to only around 10pm so not too late. Great location with friendly staff and will stay here again. Highly recommend. Hotel has pool (which I did not use). Security on site.

Good security to rooms including the pool area. Live music finished at a reasonable time. Good value menu in attached bar. Happy hour. Spacious room with fridge for cold water. Central location handy to Hop On - Hop Off bus and Waterfront restaurants.

The Cave is now my favourite go to in Darwin, not only the pub (Great steaks!) but also for accommodation. Great value for money, though I do recommend asking for a room away from the bar as it does get quite noisy. The room was very comfortable, shower was fantastic but the big stars go to the friendly, funny, charismatic and cheeky receptionist Joy Joy who made us feel right at home. Will definitely be coming back on my next trip!

Service was quite average. Cocktail was awfully watered down and not stirred. Food was not hot when it arrived at our table. Staff Didn’t give two hoots when we gave them feedback. Just said we will pass it on and walked off. Terrible service in my opinion.

I had such a wonderful stay here!! The room was so clean and big and the staff so welcoming and helpful. This would be my go to place to stay again in Darwin. I really appreciated that the music stopped at a reasonable hour. The pub food is also excellent. Great vibes, 10/10. I have already recommended the Cav to other friends travelling to Darwin.

Sensational Darwin base with a fun vibe - cleanliness, locality, friendly staff, live music, fabulous pool - highly recommend this excellent value for money gem. Beats soulless premium accommodation hands down. Walking distance to quality eateries and exhibits.
