Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The room we booked was on the day they was drilling the walls to put air conditioning in. The reception did not tell us about it. We travelled from mount isa Queensland long hours and wanted to rest but the drilling in the wall right next to our room gave us more sleep deprivation.

I didn't have the chance to stay here as after having a confirmed booking with them for 3 months I suddenly got an email saying my reservation was canceled. No reason given. Not impressed that this can happen. Now I have to scramble to try and find somewhere else within my budget and only a month before I need to be there.

I'm a traveler from Perth who has stayed twice previously with absolutely no complaints. However on the night of the 5th of august I had the misfortune of stay in a room that smelt of wet dog and a mattress that was closer to a bag of sticks that a mattress. Whilst I understand it is budget accommodation the price had nearly doubled from my previous 2 visits which were both dry season visits. Would have loved to discuss my experience with the lady on duty but her 10min phone call was more important than a paying customer in front of her. I left and sadly never to return

This is an excellent place to stay if you're in Darwin and on a budget. The room is very very small - squeezy for two - but clean, and serviced daily (and well done too !) Fridge works, aircon is cool, water is hot, bed is comfortable, TV fine. We didn't find any problems with insects in Room 37, though there are tiny midgies that you expect to find in a top-end location like this. There is a bit of a downside though...as others have mentioned, the room was not available until 3.15pm and that's a pain when you are hot, grumpy and impatient. At night, people hang around the reception and the pool which have a secure entrance but are unsupervised. It gets a bit noisy and we found it hard to sleep. There didn't seem to be a security issue but was a bit noisy all the same. A small 'negative' turned into a 'positive' in that the TV wire was broken on our arrival so we had no TV, but the maintenance fella sorted it out real fast - in minutes - so they get a big tick for service. In summary, I would give the place six stars out of five, marked down to five for the room not being ready, and the noisy reception area and pool overnight.

Stayed here for two nights - won’t be staying again. There is a certain standard of hygiene required by law even for a motel. I don’t think this hotel meets them. If you stay here expect to share your room at night with dozens of little critters. Initially the room seemed ok except for the severely rusty fridge and torn bed sheets. When we came back at night we turned on the light to find multiple cockroaches fleeing both inside the bathroom and on the bed frame, going to hide under the mattress. Had two very sleepless nights where I slept with my pants tucked into my socks. The photos on booking.com are completely photoshopped or taken many years ago when it first opened. I’ve backpacked around South East Asia and this was worse than any of the places I’ve stayed in before. I didn’t expect this poor standard in Australia. The older woman at reception is as everyone else says - completely unwelcoming. Not sure what the association is with the YHA hostel next door but you seem to have to go there for everything; for towels, to leave your luggage, to buy washing powder and to get in and out after hours. Do yourself a favour and just stay at the YHA - don’t bother with the Value Inn. It needs to be torn down. Only positives was the air con was cold, the water pressure was good and the location was central.

Arrived at 9am in the morning of June 13 after red-eye flight and as expected, the room is not ready. Asked for keeping my luggage and the not-so-young-lady-receptionist asked to either leave it under the staircase in the public area or lock them into the locker in the hostel next door. I went for the later as I have a padlock. Would be helpful if she offer to guard my luggage behind her counter, for security reason, but she just didn't bother to help. Yet, when I returned, I saw few luggage were left behind her, so, I guess she has been selective in providing help. Returned at 1:30pm and hoping the room is ready for check-in. She called up the housekeeper to check, but no luck for me, and yet, never informed her that I was already there waiting. After waited until 2:05pm, she called again and as expected, housekeeper has not started cleaning up my room. Then only she asked the housekeeper to prepare the room; which took another 35 mins. I was super tired, and she just showed the poker face like none of her business for not able to provide the room on time... Also, I tried to ask some information from her and she showed the impatience face and asked me to come back later as she is busy, which obviously she was not. The staffs in the hostel were so much approachable and helpful compared to her. Seriously, the management should make this lady learn from them. No free wifi provided, but there is free wifi provided in the hostel next door. YES, you paid more for the room, but you get the substandard services than hostel, why? Room was okay. There were small ants and saw 2 cockroaches throughout my 4 days stay, so, it is manageable. Room 57 has some moldy smell like others claim, but I overheard room 56 smell even worst. There is hot water for shower, but very low water pressure. Will I stay again should I go back to Darwin. Honestly, yes, because this is the cheapest properties in Darwin city which I can afford. But if I get richer, then definitely once is more than enough.

Black mould, cockroaches, stains everywhere. When we arrived the price for an extra night was $89 after agreeing via email it would be $75. We were also told the wifi was free. There is only wifi on at the bar! Good location that is about it. Way overpriced, STAY AWAY!!

Staff friendly, Took chair out of room and put our large suitcases under and on top of desk so plenty of room for them. Room small but adequate, beds firm but comfortable and great pillows. Bar fridge cold, tea and coffee making facilities replaced daily as was toilet paper and beds made.has a hairdryer and 4 plug power board. Only problem was small cockroaches coming out from behind fridge (come from Queensland so knew what to do) $3 spray from Coles across the road and none for the rest of our stay. Room very quiet

The room was cheap and not really Disability had ants coming from Air conditioner and One bed mattress has springs coming through it had to get it changed. No room to unpack cases had to live out of cases room only had 1 chair 2 mugs and 2 glasses 1 jug no toaster or plates. 1 bed was not made for 3 days, The ants came back after 4 days so had to get fly spray to kill them again. The TV had lines through it and it was hard to watch the bathroom had a window that could not open and a skylight with an exhaust fan going 24 hours a day. The bathroom still had soap on the floor which was there when we arrived so it was not cleaned for sometime.
