We checked in late on Friday night and was quite disappointed there was no offer of an upgrade, no complimentary water and no vouchers to use at the bar - not what I expected for an Accor member. The air conditioning in our room didn't work properly which was the last straw. After making a complaint we were given a room upgrade, complimentary water and drink vouchers...…...Our room was not serviced on the first day and when I rang up to enquire if anyone was coming to service it, I was told sorry the cleaning staff have gone for the day but we can bring up clean towels if required. There was definite lack of staff at the hotel due to the wet season. The bar and restaurant were not open over the weekend. The laundry had 1 washing machine out of 3 working and there was only 1 dryer out of 2 working. All round hard to recommend.

The hotel is showing signs of its age. The location is fantastic. Like most organisations it was very apparent that the hotel did not have sufficient staff available. Daily housekeeping was often not completed until late afternoon.

The prices in Darwin during the dry season are on the high side and not necessarily value for money. The daily breakfast offering was good, but the 6:30 am opening was inconsistent with many of the tours, which start quite early. A 6:00am start in high season would overcome the need to rush breakfast.

We had a number of issues with the room key cards, which were quickly overcome, but issues two days running seemed excessive.

The lady at reception gave us a fabulous warm welcome and Ben was exceptionally courteous and helpful, we couldn't have had two more helpful people.

Our room on the 5th floor overlooked the bay and the hotel was within walking distance of the city and Stokes Hill wharf.

Parking is an extra $10/day if in secure undercover parki g or in the yard at the rear of the hotel. There is a 2.1 metre limit for undercover parking.

The restaurant is open for breakfast and a limited dinner menu was available at the bar.

We just had the most amazing stay at Novotel Darwin CBD for 4 nights, thanks to the exceptional team who looked after us. Special mention must go to Arya, Kathryn, Bintang and Henry at Front Desk who went out of their way to make our stay in Darwin truly memorable. They were flexible in accommodating our needs and delivered service with a smile at all times. Because we booked 2 x 2-night packages, we would have had to check out after the first 2 nights and re-check in for the second 2 nights. However, the Front Desk staff made special arrangements to simply re-activate our keys to avoid the hassle. Kudos to Kathryn for her remarkable service with a ‘can do’ attitude. Anna at the lobby bar also deserves special mention for mixing great drinks with delightful conversations. She clearly loves her job and it shows! Our stay at Novotel Darwin CBD was perfect, thanks to the entire team. Our room was marvelously clean and spacious and there was nothing we could fault. The hotel is in a great location right on the waterfront and close to the CBD. We will definitely stay at Novotel next time we’re back in Darwin!

Firstly the positives .

Really friendly and helpful staff at this hotel . Nice food and friendly service in the restaurant .

The King size bed was really comfortable and made up well . The room was cleanish but the bathroom was so dated it would be impossible to get really clean - shower over bath and very old and stained tiles.

I had booked a standard room but was given a larger room with a sitting area which was nice .

The location of this hotel is quite good . Central to the CBD and a short walk to the waterfront and park area.

The hotel is badly in need of an upgrade . I would say it was built in the early 80s as it had the plant filled atrium that was very popular at that time . It would have been quite flash when it first opened . The rooms have no balconies or opening windows but that is probably due to cyclone proofing .

The hotel was full of dust . The cleaners made a valiant effort at keeping it clean but the whole foyer and rooms
smell dusty the minute you walk in . I have a tendency to allergies and my allergies flared badly during my stay .

The pool area was run down and in need of maintenance .

I’m not sure what the plans are for this hotel but surely it is due for an upgrade soon . I would not stay here again but accommodation is at a premium at the moment so provided you get a room with a comfortable bed like I did you will hopefully sleep well. Also ask for harbour view we had a view out to the back carpark.

The hotel has aged and needs a major overall and update. The Accor Group should consider removing the Novotel brand from the building unless the building owner, Thakral, spends money to update the hotel. We were allocated a room and when we entered the room we could spell the mould and the carpet was not cleaned. We complained to the manager and were allocated a new room. The hotel does not have central air conditioning but individual wall mounted air conditioners. These air conditioners need to be serviced and cleaned on a regular basis which the current hotel management is not doing.

Thank you for sharing your experience of a recent stay. Post covid we have been in regular discussions with the building owners and a planning about enhancing the property. However while the building has aged, it should always be clean and presentable. We have flagged your comments with the relevant teams for actions on our controllables. We are sorry we could not meet you expectations on this occasion and hope to win back you trust in future, as i know we can show a better experience.

I have stayed in many Novotels in Australia and around the world and this is the first time that I have experienced a hotel that fell well below the standard. From check in to room quality and maintence to buffet breakfast - all were noticeably substandard. At check in, in spite of having credit card info on file (for the last 10 years or so) I was required to pay in advance and to leave an additional security deposit.
The room keys did not unlock the room, even after 2 trips to the reception counter for checking. Reported faults with the room were not even examined let along fixed - this included the room safe which meant I had to carry valuables with me for my entire stay.
Daily room cleaning was cursory and extremely late.
The breakfast buffet was nowhere near Novotel standard - for me this is one of the constand delights of Novotels worldwide but this was not part of that standard.
Rather than extending for the rest of my stay I moved out to an ordinary hotel that at half the price was much better.
The only positive from the Novotel was that the room was quiet.

So we opened the door to what seemed like a lovely room. Until I opened the curtains to let in some natural light. I was disappointed to see the flith left behind.

When I went to the lobby to leave for the evening, the staff at the desk ask how everything is. When I mentioned the neglected to clean the window, they wanted to attend to it while we were out. As our room had all our stuff everywhere I said it can wait till we check out so the cleaning staff can deal with it when we leave. Then he asked me to take pictures and send them in for management to review....

Sorry - asking a guest to send pictures in isn't polite and I consider it very inappropriate. It should have been noted in the system. Clearly it wasn't as when we checked out the desk staff made no mention of my complaint.

Other than that,  the room was relatively neat and tidy, we loved that it had ceiling fans in both side of the room. You can see it is in need of repairs. I just can't justify paying alot of money to spot out a cleaning issue like I found.

As an Accor Plus Loyalty Gold member, and a local, my family and I often stay at this hotel for short getaways in the city. This time we were in a 2 bedroom apartment, which we have stayed in before.
We have noticed over recent stays that the hotel appears to be being run down and maintenance is not a priority for the owners of the property. Having had a few minor & not so minor issues previously, from faulty TVs, to no hot water, this time was a little extra disappointing, for the following reasons:
1. The air conditioner in the main bedroom didn't work at all (Darwin, November, build up to the wet season);
2. The air conditioner in the main area had a persistent rattling noise for the whole stay;
3. There was almost no cold water pressure in the bathroom;
4. the

I hope the hotel, and perhaps Accor/Novotel conducts a review soon and seeks to improve its produ seal on the pipe out the back of the toilet leaked every time you flushed;
The toilet cistern was coming away from the wall;
5. The in room safe didn't work; and
6. The mattress in the main room sagged in the middle, so my wife and I would constantly roll into each other throughout the night.

As we have always maintained, and one of the reasons we still come back to the hotel, is that the staff are fantastic, and very friendly and helpful. Although 1 person to run reception and also attend to the needs of all the guests, is not sustainable. Your staff is by far your greatest asset, and they should be commended for the commitment.
It appears the staff are doing their very best, but are receiving no support from the owners of the hotel.

As the only Accor "Hotel" in the Darwin CBD, I have always tried to use the hotel for the Loyalty benefits. However, I am getting increasingly disappointed with the product.

Having stayed at many Novotel Hotels around the world, I can honestly say that this one does not deserve the brand as it is currently being run.

I understand that COVID19 has an impact on most businesses, and this one would be no exception, but I am not sure that it can be used as an excuse for many of these concerns, certainly not moving forward.

Stayed here in February and were given a room that stank of wet carpet. I should have asked for a change then. After the A/C stopped working I did tell reception and we were moved. The staff were lovely and apologized for the A/C problem and allowed us a late checkout.
I know Darwin limits services in February, but I would have thought the bar would be open on a Saturday night. Consequently I couldn't use my welcome drink voucher. Also on beverages, a bottle of water in the room was priced at $4.50, which I think is a bit pricey.
The location is good and you can get some beautiful views. It's close to great restaurants and the nightlife of Mitchell Street.
