Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This review is largely for those interested in staying with their family.

As their website mentions the hotel may not be suitable for families, and other reviews mention adult shows in the pub downstairs, I wanted to check the place out before my girlfriend and kids got back from overseas. Google maps directed me to the parking out the back, which then required me to traverse through the pub itself, and the entertainment that was just getting started.

Don't let that put you off though. The actual parking for the hotel is out the front and unless you're actively seeking it out, there's nothing unsavory you'll come across from (front) carpark to your room. The music wasn't too loud, and the rooms were about what you'd expect for what we paid.

The main selling point for me is the location - Right on the Stuart Highway, close enough to some Takeway places for dinner (Etna's Pizza is pretty decent), close enough to Darwin City that you don't have to drive for ages to get into it, but far enough that you don't have to navigate traffic if you want to spend a day out at Litchfield.

The main disadvantage, from the perspective of someone with family, is that for just a little more you can stay at nearby places that are more focused towards families and have pools and the like.

Liked · The rooms were great and the cleaner was awesome. She did a great job and we are grateful for her assistance. She always provided such a great service and despite our friend causing havoc down the hallway, she was very professional about the situation. I hope the night manager can learn something from her.

Disliked · The night manager was a terrible person. There were 3 of us staying in room 2. On our first night, one of my mates decided to let off the fire extinguisher down the hallway while he was partying with another room who were playing loud music. My other mate and I were asleep during this time. We were asked to leave in the morning because of the loud music and the fire extinguisher incident (even though only one of my mates caused it). I can understand why, because that type of behaviour is not acceptable, and we had told our mate that too. We also made sure he paid for the cleaning. The bigger manager allowed us to stay, which I am forever grateful for. However, since then, the night manager would abuse us.
On our way to Sunday sesh, he came out of the pub and proceeded to call us faggots and pooftas. Telling us to "F-off". I understand why he is frustrated, as my other mate and I were also frustrated at our friend's behaviour. However, continuing to abuse us was not acceptable and isn't a level of service that we should be getting. We loved our stay at the hotel, the rooms were amazing and most of the staff were great, however, the Night Manager needs to be more professional.

Tidy enough accommodation, close to the airport. No confirmation email, no advice that there would be no staff to receive us late that night even though advised. No staff in the morning to check out. Room bookings incorrect. Close to our camper an hire place and a cafe.

For the price I paid I wasn't really sure what I was walking into, but I was prepared for the worst. My dad was an alcoholic, I grew up in country pubs. I'm quite comfortable with the smell of beer and cigarettes... Winnellie surprised me. Well the Sports Bar entry to check in didn't, that is straight out of the 70s/80s and is full of old men complaining about the animal they just lost a bet on. Ignore all that and check into your room, it's way better than you think!

Freshly painted and refurbished. Amazing air-conditioning. Great amenities. Secure. As a woman travelling alone I felt very safe here. The bathroom is dated but who cares, clean and hot water. This room is kinda a diamond in the rough and you hotta hand it to the owners. It's tough taking on a building like this and making it attractive to modern expectations. It even has a fancy new coffee machine... that is a strong selling point.

If you are sensitive to sounds bring earplugs. You will be in an industrial area and next door to an airport. No sound concerns within the building, its a reasonably quiet pub scene here.

100% recommend and would come back if I'm ever up this way again.

We came and people were in our room and the staff were lovely we got complementary drinks and help with our bags, we had a local put a $200 food tab for us just out of the kindness of his heart and they wouldn't let us pay for drinks the first night and done everything they could to make us feel welcome. Best hotel motel iv ever stayed at.

I had no problem checking in from a very late flight. Room was very comfortable, had been recently renovated - shower was awesome. Had a King and single, still lots of room to move around. New a/c unit, flat screen tv and tea/coffee etc. Had a microwave too, although not used, food onsite was really good. Accommodation is upstairs from the pub and bottleshop, there is a separate entry but if not a pub fan, maybe not best option. No lift but not too many stairs. Close to airport but if travelling by taxi be aware there are a couple of routes, one not so expensive :) Check maps too, Winnellie is not in Darwin CBD.

I needed a motel for my late night flight to Sydney and chose this hotel for its distance to airport. I had two suitcases and two other items around my neck to get to the second floor up a very small stairway, with no elevator. The room had two queen-beds, but they were on wheels on a tile floor, you can figure out the rest. The cups for the coffee were filthy and there was a stain on the sheet. The front desk did let me in early, but when I got home I was rung over and over in Sydney to get the payment for the room- I was under the impression I had paid for it already, since I had given full card info on line already. I won't be using this motel again in the future, and it still cost me over $30 dollars to go 1.9 kilometres. -Davy
