Reviews summary

Novotel Darwin Airport enjoys recognition for its friendly and efficient service, though a few guests have noticed instances of inexperience among the staff. While the hotel's rooms offer generous space and views, numerous travelers have expressed concerns about their outdated condition and unpleasant odors. The pool and bar are highlights, celebrated by many for their excellence, though some visitors have faced disappointments due to occasional closures. Despite some dated features, the overall atmosphere of the hotel is met with approval, especially the clean and modern communal spaces. Opinions on cleanliness vary, with the rooms receiving mixed reviews, in contrast to the well-kept pool and reception areas. However, questions about the hotel's value for money persist, as some guests feel the experience does not justify the costs.

This hotel and its sister site (the Mecure) are undergoing massive road and ground works to upgrade the facilities. So the front entrance to both hotels is a bit hard to find. The parking is cramped.
The first card I was given to access my room did not work so I had to walk all the way back to reception to exchange cards. I was then given another room that is fit for disabled people. The shower is just a curtain divider from the toilet and the vanity is way too low (if not disabled). The aircon has a continuous annoying 'tick' and the fan is likewise noisy.
The room rate is a whopping $499 for one night and this is way overpriced for a 'standard' room.
The carpeted hallway to the rooms is dirty and stained.
The in-house restaurant is not open on weekends so I took the option of room service (cooked and delivered by the Mecure). This came to my room promptly but in poor quality (but compostable) take out boxes. The menu selection is lack lustre.
After a very long drive I expected and needed better in house facilities.
The one redeeming feature is that it is close to airport and has a free shuttle service.

The Novotel and the Mercure which are together now have the one checkin and share restaurants.
I stayed in the Novotel on the airport side but was not disturbed by aircraft noise. The room was standard. On the other side the Novotel rooms have a veranda over looking the pools. I ate at the Mercure’s restaurant, dinner was Ok but the guy opposite was left waiting. I think they do have inexperience staff.
Breakfast at the Mercure is buffet style whist at the Novotel it is a la carte. I had the buffet breakfast. It was Ok but an inexperienced staff member cleared my plate and sat another at my table before I finished. The problem was quickly resolved. It’s ok to make mistakes but there should be a senior staff member supervising.
A good night stay and a nice resort with plenty of swimming pools and different types of accommodation. It is a big resort as well as a hotel for travellers.

The reception staff were friendly and very helpful, as were the house keeping ladies. There is a restaurant on the premises, but they do not give the Accor Live discount. However the gentleman on reception directed across the road to the Mercure Airport Hotel where they honoured our complimentary welcome drinks vouchers and offered the Accor Live discount on all meals. The hotel is a few minutes drive to the airport, which we could see from our room. The room would enjoy a little refurbishing, but it was comfortable and its situation suited us. Our plane was delayed by three hours and the lovely lady on reception was able to allow us a late checkout of 1pm which was much appreciated.

Worst experience. They charged near $170 per night for one person/single room with not a single bottle of water. I asked the reception, they said that I can either buy a bottle from them or use the tap water. I pointed out that there is not even a empty glass provided to drink the tap water which is located inside the bathroom/toilet! They just smiled at me....will never stay again

Absolutely disgusting, from the moment I stepped out of the lift the whole place stank. The first room I could not stay in due to the smell, the next was not much better. Both pools were out of order, told we could walk across to the other hotel to swim. The restaurant was closed, the poolside food was an over priced under stocked display cabinet if pre-made options.
When our flights out were canceled , I was told the price for an extra night was more and would be back in the stinky rooms or the cost was even more
I came here due to the name and thought it would be nice as I am travelling with a new employee on his first work trip - absolutely disgusting.
Do not stay here, the rooms are not what are pictured at all

Disgustingly overpriced. We paid $600 a night for a very basic room that I would give a 2 star rating, at best. Stained carpets, chipped paint on walls and damaged furniture. The gym is so small, it does not support social distancing.

No prior information pertaining to the construction going on around the entire perimeter of the building. Or that the restaurant is not open on weekends or public holidays. We attempted to utilise the Mercure across the construction site for breakfast, but were told of an hour and a half wait, so a quick Maccas run took place before heading out on a tour. Room service comes with an additional cost. Surely you could have taken that out of the nightly fee.

The 'block out' curtains struggle to block the blinding white light being utilised throughout the entire night to light up the construction area. The balcony, although a nice thought, is filthy due to the construction occurring.

The only highlight was the staff, they are lovely.

Highly disappointed!! Won't be recommending and won't be staying on our return next year.

The hotel has joined forces with Mercure next-door and lashed out on a new reception and massive pool - very nice. However, it creates the expection that the rooms will also be refurbished. They have not. Dated, grubby (sofa was really icky) awful lighting. Cheap workarounds in public area like the old reception still intact but 'disguised' with a row of pot plants. Worst of all is the Novotel Poolside Restaurant at the back of the building. No pool, simply frosted windows, so don't get your hopes up there. I ordered a poke bowl with grilled chicken strips - half rice and frozen veg with some manky bits of chicken thigh probably left over the the Butter Chicken special. $28 went to bed hungry.

Dear MillyMollymandy54, Thank you for taking the time to provide detailed feedback on your recent stay with us. We appreciate your comments and are truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. We understand that our recent upgrades to the reception area and the new pool might have set high expectations for the condition of our rooms. While we have made significant improvements to our public spaces, we acknowledge that some of our rooms and facilities may still need attention. Your observations about the dated and grubby condition of your room, particularly the sofa and lighting, have been noted. We are actively planning further renovations and improvements, and your feedback will help us prioritize these efforts. Regarding your dining experience at the Novotel Poolside Restaurant, we apologize for the misleading name and the quality of the meal you received. It's disappointing to hear that the poke bowl did not meet your expectations and left you unsatisfied. Our goal is to provide high-quality dining experiences, and it’s clear we fell short in this instance. I will share your feedback with our culinary team to address these issues and improve the dining options we offer. We also appreciate your feedback on the design choices in our public areas. We strive to create a welcoming and comfortable environment for our guests, and your comments about the old reception area and the use of pot plants for disguise have been taken into consideration. Please know that we value your input and are committed to making the necessary changes to enhance our guests' experiences. If you decide to stay with us again in the future, we hope you will notice and appreciate the improvements we are making based on feedback like yours. Thank you once again for your candid review. If there is anything further we can do to address your concerns or if you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please do not hesitate to contact me directly. Best regards,

We live in darwin but have come here as this is the best pool in the city. Brilliant way to spend your time in the dry. If you come here and aren't staying there's a $30 min spend per person which is absolutely fine for the quality of this pool. Facing west so cops the sun I'm the afternoon

This is the mattress protector. I just pulled the covers back to get into bed and I saw this dark patch through the bottom sheet. I pulled the sheet back and lo and behold! I wouldn't even use this at home! $350 a night and this is what you get!?

How disappointing. If they're so stingy that they can't throw this well and truly stained mattress protector in the garbage, they will never get another cent from me. Yuck.

You're cheap skates, Novotel Mecure. Rip every one off, but skimp and cut corners everywhere. The entire place is old and shabby. The paint is peeling off the walls and it smells damp.

I will not be giving you my hard earned money ever again.

This is a great place to stay! The service from checking in to checking out and during your stay is fabulous. The rooms are super clean and comfortable. The gym is well equipped and the pool and area is lovely! They also share facilities with the Mercure across the road which is great for breakfast and coffee on the go. The location is super easy to the airport if your in a hurry or have a crazy late flight/arrival staying here will make you more then comfortable. The location is great too if you have a car.
Very close too Mindil beach for the markets, there is a Bottle shop and supermarket complex 2 mins down the road. So we started a road trip from here.

Hi Amy, great to hear you are coming to visit us and as you recommended by fellow travellers the shuttle bus phone is located on a pillar opposite carousel 1 at the baggage collection area. This will call through to reception and may take anywhere from 1m to 10m for my team to pick you up. The property is only a few hundred metres away however in the early hours of the morning please just wait at the airport and we will pick you up. Looking forward to seeing you and don't hesitate to ask us for any further assistance. Cheers Jamie

There is not a bus that runs directly to the CBD, you will need to catch a bus at Charles Eaton Drive bus stop (approximately a 3 minute walk from the hotel) that goes to Casuarina, look for bus number 3. It departs this stop at 6.59am / 7.34am / 8.11am / 12.39pm / 4.04pm / 4.44pm / 5.29pm; Once you are at Casuarina a number of busses head into town. Your only other option is to catch a cab The hotel runs one shuttle at 5pm every Thursday and Sunday to Mindil beach markets during the dry season. As this is a popular service you would be required to pre book and please note we only offer a drop off service to the markets Kind regards, Matthew Kent Operations Manager
