The Lost Camel Hotel is commended for its comfortable quarters and strategic locale, featuring appreciated perks like complimentary laundry services and a swimming pool. However, some guests have called out the absence of in-house dining options. While the rooms are generally praised for their cleanliness, a few travelers have reported concerns over bathroom maintenance and the need for brighter décor to enhance the atmosphere.
Service experiences seem to vary, with notable mentions of both helpful staff and occasional lapses in professionalism. Reviewers warn that despite the basic amenities provided, the hotel's value proposition may not align with its pricing, leading to some guests cutting their stays short.

The accommodation is quite basic and is best described more like a holiday camp. The rooms are straight on to an alleyway thoroughfare. Light & noise travelling under doors. On first entering the rooms were well presented and adequate for a short stay. The sink is set within the room with the shower & toilet being separate. Its an odd layout with the only natural light coming from the toilet and the shower windows. You are requested to ensure you close the shower curtain when showering as everyone can see you otherwise…same applies in the loo! The showers are dated with dirty grouting & white dirty shower curtains. The toilet was stained dirty too. No excuse. Overall a major upgrade is needed or at least some brighter shower curtain. The bed was comfortable with crisp cotton sheeting aiding a good nights rest. Air-conditioning in room was good. There was no complimentary water but there is basic tea & instant coffee; if you are a coffee drinker you’ll be disappointed with their basic offerings. The rooms could easily be elevated with some aboriginal art in the rooms or at least a brighter shower curtain!
Breakfast is taken at the ‘Sails in the Desert’ venue…this was very good with a good selection of quality offerings. We’d definitely recommend this.
The restaurant in the town square was okay but basic. There’s also a sandwich/snack bar cafe….lots of choice in there from pies to salads to eat in or takeaway..
Be aware that there are very few places to eat after 9pm across the whole site.
There’s a small pool to use at TLC; however, the aboriginal children run feral across the site and would often jump in fully clothed. These children also run in and out of the town square restaurant/toilets and corridors. It can be very noisy and it seems like management turn a blind eye to this disruption.
There’s obviously social problems that need addressing as the town centre looked dreadful at night/early morn with beach towels strewn across lawned areas where they sell their art work.
We took the Sounds of Silence tour and really enjoyed the experience. We also did the morning segway tour…..again way overpriced but if you do want to do it i’d suggest the full peripheral tour as the other was only a brief ride. The knee pads & hats etc were grubby but they do spray them with a disinfectant they said.
Overall this was a comfortable stay to see Uluru & Kata Tjuta but way over-priced amaccommodations and tours for what you get.

We were a little disappointed with the Lost Camel Hotel. Apart from the lobby, the complex is designed without love, looks cool and barren. Our room was small but basically clean (apart from a few small animals in the toilet, which we could “treat” with the existing insect spray). The pool area offers extremely few shade spots, but is exposed to strong sunlight all day long. The few shaded areas are not comprehensible for us, as it is recommended to make all trips in the morning. As a result, many guests visit the pool area during the midday heat and afternoon. Furthermore, it is not understandable to us that drinks cannot be purchased in the entire Lost Camel Hotel. Since there is no restaurant or bar, a vending machine would be the alternative. The price-performance ratio is not right in our view.

We stayed 3 nights at the Lost Camel Hotel. Location is central to everything. All tours for the Lost Camel leave from Sails in the Desert which is a 5minutes stroll. The shopping centre is next door, very convenient. The room was tidy, the A/C was strong and the linen and bedding was fresh and clean. Having a sette/couch in the room was a bonus. There is a kettle in the room for tea/coffee. Since there is no onsite restaurant a microwave would have been good to heat up meals. The toilet bowls have a grey stain and it seems to be endemic due to the minerals/ storm water used for the flushing system. However, there is no mention of this in the toilet area so it a bit confronting. Bath area needs better cleaning and a nonslip bath mat would be good as the tiles are slippery. The use of the free laundry and detergent was a welcome addition as you do get sweaty in the desert and carrying soiled clothes back is not ideal.
It’s a pity that not many aboriginal people are involved in the tourism and hotel industry in the Red Centre. This would add so much more to the experience. I hope this can be changed in the future.
Overall a very good experience staying at the Lost Camel Hotel.

Compared to the other expensive hotels in the Ayers Rock Resort complex, it offers rooms at still acceptable prices. The rooms are quite large and the bathroom is functional and spacious. It could use a little more maintenance, but overall the experience is positive. The towels are of good quality and the mattress is comfortable, the personal hygiene kit is sufficient. At guests' disposal there are a hairdryer, TV, refrigerator and, as per Australian standards, a kettle for tea and coffee. Free pool for guests with towels to collect at reception. What really doesn't work is the customer service both before and during the stay: time wasted on the phone to book with errors after errors and double charges on the credit card :(. To resolve this we had to involve the General Manager!

We arrived around 11am, and the rooms were not ready. We were able to leave the bags in the lobby and walk 2 minutes to the town center area for coffee. There were a few shops, a restaurant, coffee bar, and an IGA grocery store. It was 2pm by the time our room was ready. The bed was comfortable with new comfortable bedding. The only window was a push out in the bathroom - but we already knew that. Knowing that there was no window in the room, you would think they would have installed adequate lighting. There was no overhead light, just two bedside lights and a light over a small sofa . The WIFI worked well, and there were bedside chargers. There was a small refrigerator. The shower was separated from the toilet, which I like! The room was very clean - I didn’t see any bugsThe pool was nice, but there were no shaded areas to enjoy. Having a free laundry was a huge plus! Transportation within the resort and to/from the airport was excellent and mostly on time. We booked outside tours so we really didn’t participate in much at the resort. The sunrise and sunset “shows” were very expensive, and the reviews for the resort “barbecues “ weren’t great, so we skipped them ( I’m a picky eater - so it’s just not worth it for me). Instead, we had carry out dinner from the Wok. We had so much food left over! The next day we took the shuttle to the outback hotel, which has a communal kitchen , so we could use the microwave to warm our leftovers for lunch. The Outback is the only hotel selling “take away” alcohol , so we bought some beer to go with our lunch. We were glad we weren’t staying there. it’s very bare bones, but the bar looked like it would be fun in the evenings.

The Lost Camel is the budget hotel option in Ayers Rock Resort but it is by no means cheap. Paying more than USD 250 for a room without windows feels a bit like a rip off. The room is colorful. The bed is comfortable and the ac is working. There is a can of bug repellent in the room, which proved to come in handy after dropping a potato chip on the floor which attracted a bird of time little ants.

You get what you pay for I suppose but this isn’t what I expected. Reception area small but efficient at check in … our flight arrived early in morning so room wasn’t ready so we left our luggage. Reception very polite so no issues and this is the only contact we had with any staff. Good location, however everything in Yulara is handy, but room very small and no natural light. Only windows are in the separate shower and toilet but you have a shower curtain as privacy. We kept the door open for light. My guide book has this as a boutique hotel which is it not. Maybe we were unlucky as I had requested 2 rooms beside each other which we got. Fridge in room with tea coffee etc. No eating facilities at the hotel tho we went to next door Sails of the Desert for lunch a few times. Pool was absolutely freezing, even coming from Ireland, which was a bit disappointing tho apparently all pools at all hotels the same.

This was a pretty good hotel. The stuff inside the room was clean, modern, and made our stay convenient. They had a proper hair dryer, solid water pressure and the toilet and shower are separate so there was no urgent waiting, lol. There is a pool outside with decent temperature that is big enough to swim in, the staff is very kind (if you show up outside of business hours, the folks at Sails in the Desert will take care of you), and the room is well positioned to the town square and supermarket. You won't go hungry.
There are insects, but that's just... Australia. I don't know how much influence they have over their insect population, but think of it as learning about the biodiversity of the Northern Territory, lol.
What I didn't like is, strangely... the door. There are quite a few folks running about from outside the hotel, and our door was lightweight, as in you could probably knock it down if you really wanted to. You could almost see the outside through the gaps when it's closed, which is not a great feeling when strangers are running out and about at night. It made me feel a bit unsafe.
All in all, a good stay for a couple of days! I probably wouldn't want to stay longer, though.

I stayed at The Lost Camel in December 2024. While the stay itself was fine, the post-stay experience has been anything but. More than 1.5 months later, I am still waiting for my reward points, despite written confirmation before my stay that they would be credited.
Repeated emails to the hotel have gone completely unanswered. Accor’s customer support acknowledged the issue but claims the hotel is unresponsive. The only points I received were for incidental expenses, while the A$1000+ spent on the room remains uncredited.
For Accor loyalty members, be warned: If something goes wrong, you may find yourself stuck in an endless loop with no resolution. The hotel’s refusal to engage raises serious concerns about how they treat loyal guests.

The Ayers Rock Resort gives you options ranging from campsites to luxury hotels and I'd say The Lost Camel leans towards mid-range motel on this spectrum. I understand it's converted staff quarters which may be why there are no big windows (some natural light comes in through the bathroom windows) and no restaurant on site. However, my room was very comfortable, there is a pool on site, and of course everything in the resort "town" is nearby so you walk two minutes to the town square for the supermarket and some cafes, or 5 minutes to a restaurant at one of the other hotels. In any case, you don't want to spend too much time inside because the park is spectacular and the activities on offer are thrilling. While I don't think you can do a super-cheap trip to Uluru, this is a great option if you are looking to splurge on activities and maybe save a bit on lodging. I will mention that I booked and paid through the website but when I checked in the hotel had a record of my reservation, but not of my payment. I didn't have a record of my payment with me but I was able to just pay again and then email them later from home with a record of my original payment, after which they promptly refunded my card for the double payment. Not a big deal for me, but if you don't want to go through that bother, you might want to make sure you have your proof of payment with you when you check in.
