We stayed in this hotel in July 2004 before setting off to King Canyon and Ayers Rock. It was conveniently located on the outskirts of town, with the McDonnell Ranges as a back drop to our room.
It was clean and comfortable and better than some others we sighted.
The restaurant was excellent, the best bruschetta ever!

I have just got back from a trip to the Red Centre, and although I didn't find the Novotel on this website (I am a member) I just wanted to say how fantastic my stay was at the hotel. The Novotel has the best views of the ranges in Alice and we really enjoyed our stay. They are right across from the Casino and they're shuttle bus got us to and from town when we didn't want to walk - too hot!! The stay was short but enjoyable, clean and friendly. Definatly a business clientel during the week when we were there, but a lot of international people which was good to see, around the pool enjoying the sun. We thought our great experience should be shared with others-we hope you enjoy like we did!

Evacuated to the Novotel from the very very leavable Alice Springs Plaza Hotel, so we were more than satisfied with the change despite the issues below.
Only two levels, some rooms are a bit of a hike from parking or reception if you're not very mobile, so ask about this if it's an issue for you.
Clean, quiet, comfortable beds, good quiet controllable air conditioning. The bathrooms are a prefabricated module and could have been cleaner. OK for a shower, but you wouldn't want to be feeling like a bath.
Some rooms have issues with TV reception, but we found reception very accommodating finding a room with reception to watch the state of origin (footie match).
The restaurant was excellent worth a visit even if you're not staying there.

We stayed at the Novotel Outback and found the service was impeccable, with brilliant management and immaculate rooms. Perfect in every way. We ate at the restaurant which had delicious food and great service also, and every morning had the breakfast which was fresh, very tasty and also delicious.
Alice Springs is an interesting, unique place to visit, and I found the Novotel Outback a great place to stay while visiting.

Rooms not cleaned and rather shabby - car park a LONG way from the rooms
Meals poor and expensive - and DON'T drink there either!
There are many other hotels in the Alice that I would and have selected, to stay - give this one a miss

We had a terrible stay at this place. The carpet looked like someone had vomited on it. We got over inflated prices, and when queried we got a basic "tough luck". We got 2 glasses for four people. There wasn't sufficient blankets. People were smoking out in the corridor wafting into our room. People did not keep quiet at all times of the day and night. To cap it someone left their alarm on at 4.30am in the morning The only saving grace was the food was ok. If you want ripped off this is the place to go. STAY AWAY. The internet was slow, the normal 240 volt plugs were slow to charge. Couldn't wait to get away from the place.

We stayed at the Novotel for three nights arriving 23rd September 2006.

From reading up beforehand we already knew that the hotel was located out on the edge of town so there were no surprises there. It’s a good 25 – 35 min walk into the centre. Normally we don’t find walking that sort of distance a problem but it’s hardly the most scenic/pleasant walk along dimly lit paths/roads and I doubt you would want to do it too often. You’ll soon resort to driving or taxis.

As we saw it, the benefit of the out of town location would be the views of the MacDonnell ranges. However despite asking ahead of time on a number of occasions for a room with a scenic view we were allotted a room on the ground floor with a view of the car park (room 117). After complaining we were quickly moved to room 238 on the upper floor but the views from there were little better. Few of the rooms have good views and it’s a lottery as to whether you’ll get one or not. Requesting a view ahead of time appears to be a complete waste of time as the desk staff don’t appear to refer back to such requests when allocating rooms.

The hotel is a two-storey affair. The rooms feel very modern, clean and fresh and were, in terms of comfort and decor, amongst the best that we stayed in during our trip. The first room we were allotted had a linking door to the next room. Obviously this was locked but, if you have noisy neighbours, this won’t help the soundproofing. The bathrooms are an unusual pre-formed design that appear to be moulded from one piece of plastic. I suppose this does make them potentially easier to keep clean as there are no gaps anywhere. The air conditioning in the room appeared hi-tech but it wasn’t working properly until fixed.

Outside, the rooms are linked by open-air walkways. Although during the day this gives the place a nice light and airy feel it does have disadvantages in the evening. You’ll find all manner of insect life attracted to the external light located by your door. It therefore requires a very quick entry or exit to stop these unwanted visitors getting in! To make matters worse the doors are ill fitting at the bottom and ours had a particularly large gap. You’ll therefore find insects wandering in anyway. It was quite an education, and not always particularly pleasant, to see what we could find in our room. Each evening, before bed, we had to stick a towel under the door to plug the gap but this didn’t stop the creepy crawlies getting in at other times! The gaps also don’t help with soundproofing if you are unfortunate enough to have neighbours who allow their screaming kids to run up and down the walkways.

There is a spacious restaurant on site. We found the food a bit pretentious for what it was and you’ll probably find the restaurants in town a better bet in terms of quality and price. You may therefore find yourself resorting to driving/taxis more than you had anticipated.

Bike hire is available but the quality of the bikes is variable.

It’s so disappointing as, with a few changes, this could be a really nice hotel but as it stands it falls just that bit short of the mark. Yes we’d stay there again but there are probably better places in Alice.

We stayed at this hotel one night on our four day tour of the red centre. This hotel was situated a bit outside of the town and that makes it a bit difficult to make spontaneous walks downtown. The reception and the staff didnt say much and it was in all ways a bit difficult to find information about the hotel and the facilities. It took a while to find out when breakfast was served and that the gym was closed. The building in itself looks more like a cheap motel than a hotel. The bathrooms of the hotelrooms are made out of some kind of plastic modules. The rooms were not that well kept and not that clean.
The only good thing we experienced here was the dinner at the restaurant which was good.

The price was right, but it is not worth it! First, it's located a $10 taxiride from the town center, which makes for a more expensive dinner. Second, the design of the hotel is weird--very long and narrow, so your room might be 100 yards from the lobby. Third, the electricity in the room is activated with your room key, and they only give you one key. Not bad, except when it is 100 outside and the electricity turns off when you leave the room. Plus, the hallway is outdoors, so that lets in heat. Fifth, The AC and minibar are very noisy--kept us up part of the night. Sixth, try turning off the minbar too stop the noise, and you are awakened two hours later by the melting ice in the minibar. Seventh, the internet computer in the lobby is the slowest computer I've worked on since the 1990"s--at least they didn't charge me for the 30 minute connect time that should have taken 5 minutes.

Go elsewhere, I did for the second night of my stay!

We had to take this motel as it was a busy time in Alice Springs. We won’t be back! The bed was disgustingly hard and the sheets were not changed daily and the towels in the bathroom were grey! We had to ask for our room to be cleaned. The compendium states and the sign out the front states that they have a bar and restaurant but it’s not functioning!!! One receptionist was delightful, another we approached was non caring- take it or leave it attitude. Our bathroom bin was not emptied each day. There was no liquids in the dispenser and no hand towel... quite disappointing!
