We stayed at the Diplomat for 5 nights, using it as a base for day trips. Staff were friendly. Pool area was clean and inviting (although a little too cold for us to swim at the time). Having a cafe and tavern on site was fantastic as we didn’t have to venture far for quality meals if we didn’t want to. There were some stains on the bedding but bedding smelt fresh and clean. Rooms are dated however it is a great central location with many amenities on site.

Right near centre of town so ideal for access. I got there from airport by shuttle for $AU20. The checkin was very quick and when I asked for a downstairs room (big bag-no lift) they happily gave me one. Room was dated but clean with nice big tv (though the reception was glitchy). nice to find a kettle with plenty of tea n coffee. There was also a fridge to keep your water and snacks in. Bathroom also dated but well appointed. Water was lovely and hot. I was pleased to find a bath in mine! Hotel has a cafe and a bar/restaurant attached. Food and service was good in both. security is good at night as they have gates that close it off (though there is someone on all night in case you get back at midnight from the Uluru day trip…

The Diplomat Motel is in a central location close to shops. Stumps Café is on site and open for breakfast and lunch. Staff are friendly and there is a reasonable menu and the food and coffee are good quality. Uncles Tavern is also on site and serves good quality bar meals for dinner. The tavern was busy but meals were available in a reasonable time and drinks available after a short wait in a queue.

We stayed at The Diplomat for 2 nights in a King Room on the first floor. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was close to the corner of Gregory Terrace and Hartley street and whilst it was close to the tavern we didn't notice excessive noise other than some loud cars on the adjacent streets. The main room and bathroom were large and the air conditioning effective. There was a small amount of rust on the shower screen and some cracked tiles in the bathroom. The King size bed was comfortable but the sheets were worn thin and had been repaired. There were stains on the carpet.

Best be very careful what room you receive if you wish to sleep at all in this hotel. The room, while dated circa 1990 inside, usual broken tiles in bathroom, poor water pressure, poor lighting, tiny TV, noisy aircon aside, the big issue here is noise.

If you are given a room anywhere above the bar or facing onto a road, request a change immediately. Bar is open till 1am, so no chance of sleep until at least then if in one of these rooms, such as I was in. Then the fights start which lasted 2 more hours outside. Couped with heavy roadworks occuring immediately out the front all night, I would totally avoid this hotel presently, find somewhere quiet, no where near the central part of Alice Springs to stay or operate the following day on zero sleep.

Stayed at the Diplomat three times in four different rooms in the course of coming and going from Alice over a period of close to a month. I thought the service provided including standard of accommodation was excellent, especially given the very reasonable room rates. While the rooms were standard country-town motel style rooms, nothing opulent about them, they were spacious including the bathrooms (most of which had been recently renovated). Beds comfortable and wifi signal consistently strong. Location is excellent, right in the centre of town, and there was no problem with parking on the premises. We had no issues with security, as other guests had commented. Each time we stayed also received free coffee vouchers for the cafe downstairs and beverage vouchers for the bar. Would gladly return.

· Nothing to like about this place - the worst motel I have stayed in anywhere in Australia. Many cheaper motels provide a far better service than this place. Do yourself a favour and choose another hotel. It is expensive for what it provides. You will get better value at other places in Alice. I would have rated this place a zero if I could.
Disliked · The cleanliness of the rooms leave a lot to be desired - filthy showers, dirty floors, stained furnishings. Towels were very thin. Had to ask for a bathmat. Room not serviced, had to ask for clean towels and replenish body wash. Wish I had read the reviews before booking. I saw that management had committed to improving the cleanliness back in May but people still to continue to complain about how dirty the rooms are. The two rooms we stayed in were the dirtiest rooms I have ever encountere in years of travelling. Seems that management only pay lip service to customer complaints.

Stay two nights either side of tour of area.

Basically in centre of town. A minutes walk to local Coles, woolworths and mall and a few minutes to river side.

Onsite cafe bar come breakfast area.

Separate pub/tavern on site with full food service.

24 hr reception.

Some rooms facing main street are over the pub area which can get noisy when the pub patrons get rowdy later in the evening.

I upgraded to rear quite area for 2nd night, it cost an additional $20.

Rooms are decent size with all expected amenities.

Whole property and rooms generally well maintained and clean.

Rooms generally well maintained and clean, though, I room I had the curtains needed a good clean which was only issue.

The other room was fine, but one small section of skirting board looks like it was overlooked in the last paint job.

Recommended for reasonably priced centrally located stay with close access to all facilities

Our rooms were comfortable both times we stayed. But we particularly appreciated the laundry facilities as we had been 9 days camping before our first visit, and 6 days on a road trip before our second visit. Breakfast in the cafe was also excellent.

Stayed Diplomat for one night. Location wise was good. Located in the heart of Alice spring and close to shops, supermarkets and restaurants.

The room was really lousy. I don't know how those "official photo" were taken, must be either done many years ago when the motel was just built, or they have someone who really good at Photoshop. The room was dirty and shabby, don't even have a proper door. Our room is facing the main street which is quite noisy. However, after reading other reviews I feel that we were lucky, as those rooms close to or on top of the tavern could be much worse -- we had dinner in the tavern and can imagine how noisy it could be.

Regarding the service.... well, there's no much service. They did give drink/beverage vouchers which it's the only highlight in the entire stay.

In short, unless you don't care about the dirtiness and is able to sleep through the traffic/bar noise, do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else

Due to the unexpected illness of my wife I stayed at The Diplomat for just over a month. The hotel delivers what it promises - Comfortable, clean accommodation in the centre of town.
The attached cafe and tavern provide good value meals and the tavern a range of drinks to go with the meals. True Friday night karaoke can be a bit noisy but that is the only issue.
What set the Diplomat apart for me was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff from the reception to the housekeeping staff they were all great. I certainly would stay again.

It's a 2.1km walk, about 25 mins. Just be ware that it is like urban warfare in Alice Springs after dark so it might be ok during the day but not after the sun sets.
