When travelling down to Wagga Wagga, the Houston is a must. With offsite parking close to the room, unpacking is a breeze. We booked into a room which has a seperate kitchen area from sleeping quarters and the most amazing bathroom I have ever come across in accommodation. The property is always peacefully quiet and if you are arriving late, it’s never a problem. The Houston is close to a lot of delicious restaurants (a couple of mins drive)and comes with wifi. We will definitely be back!

We were very pleased with our last-minute decision to stay in Wagga and our choice of accommodation. The hotel was well located for cafes and eateries and for a stroll along the river. The room was a little dark but very comfortable and clean with quality furnishings. A light breakfast of fruit/granola/yoghurt was supplied and we had a neat little kitchenette in which to prepare our own snacks or a light meal. After exploring the town we were happy to relax in our room or on the front porch, making use of the good internet or front veranda chairs. Sadly we had to leave early to get across the Victorian border before restrictions tightened. Mark was very helpful & understanding.

I cannot fault the Houston. We arrived @ 5pm on a VERY hot day. Mark very politely showed us to our suite (he had upgraded us) and WOW ... absolutely beautiful and so COOL. We came to Wagga for a family celebration and whilst others, who stayed elsewhere, reported melting through the night we slept in cool luxury. The King sized bed & pillows were a dream; the bathroom was so luxurious and there was enough space in the suite (with a separate eat in kitchenette) to wish we had been staying longer. Everywhere I looked was a feast for the eyes from artworks to textiles and furniture and the gardens. Mark was a very generous, and genuine, host and nothing was too much trouble. Situated only 5 mins from restaurants ( we walked and walking through the park on such a warm night with trees lit up was delightful) and in a quiet and historic part of town were added benefits. We will definitely return.

The property is described as a Luxury Boutique Apartment Hotel including a Continental Breakfast.
The Houston is not a Hotel and the Continental breakfast consists of 2 packets of porridge and 2 small containers of preserved fruit.
The Houston is and old house converted into a few rooms with added bathrooms. No reception and servicing of rooms consists only of a change of bath towels.
Rooms are dark and not well appointed.
Not sure where the good reviews come from. Must be friends of the owner.

Response from The Houston Wagga, Owner at The Houston Wagga
Responded 3 Aug 2020
Thank you Peter for your comments, youre entitled to your own opinion. However I'd like to clarify your misleading and incorrect comments: we provide a "complimentary light continental breakfast" for our guests. Generally guests will contact us for additional or special breakfast requirements. Dark rooms ? not sure how bright youd like your room when all curtains are open, however its often commented how light and bright our hotel suites are. All suites are serviced daily whether a depart or stay. Your suite was serviced daily, although you'd pulled your own bed up our team remade your bed, provided fresh towels, removed the trash, washed up any crockery - this is a typical hotel stay service - we're at a loss what more you'd have wanted - again contacting us would've rectified your angst. Our reception is manned every day and when not, our team are contactable as directed by clear and prominently positioned contact signage - our team are at a loss if you required assistance why a call wasnt made. Given covid19 we, as with most accommodation providers, are practising safe distancing through zero contact checkin/out so as to limit and control the spread. Peter, by no means are we perfect but it is our aim to provide an enjoyable experience for all our guests, and with that I believe the guest reviews speak for themselves. Obviously our property doesnt fulfill your preconceived expectations. As noted above youre entitled your own opinion, as are all our guests with whom write their own reviews after staying with us, guest reviews we appreciate - we wish you well and wont be welcoming you back to The Houston Wagga.

What a lovely retreat/studio. Roomy, full of ambience and comfort. From the the fluffy white towels to the feathered pillows. The room just looked beautiful and inviting. It has a modern bathroom with marbled floors and a very large shower cubicle with modern touches.
Loved our stay!!!!

My husband and I stayed at the Belmore Suite for one night and I can't wait to go back. The bed was perfect. Period. The pillows divine - the very best I've ever enjoyed at a hotel. The entire space was spotless and included a small modern kitchen with room to sit at a table, separate toilet with sink, separate room for the shower and sink, and a large bedroom with an old (non-working) fireplace. In the kitchen were two eggs in egg cups, two small jars of muesli, yogurt and fruit. As there is a small hob, my husband hard boiled the eggs for me to take for a snack in the car. He enjoyed the muesli and yogurt.

If one thing could be better, it would be the towels. But I will not complain - I slept well and felt that as a guest I was appreciated. Thank you Houston Wagga! BTW I discovered Wagga means "crow", Wagga Wagga is plural, so it means crows.

A lovely little apartment in a beautiful, old house in an attractive part of Wagga Wagga - what's not to like? The main room was warm and comfortable with a sofa as well as the bed. The little kitchen included a table and chairs, crockery, cutlery and a light breakfast. The toilet was in a separate room from the bathroom and both room have wash-basins. We were able to check in and out without contact with staff. Altogether an excellent experience.

A little gem. Self checkin after 2pm went as smoothly as you could hope for. Lovey room with a separate sitting room/kitchenette with a microwave, stove top, cutlery, crockery, bar fridge, coffee machine, jug etc. tea/Coffee, milk and yoghurt in the fridge and some muesli for a light breakfast. The world’s most comfortable king-sized bed. Very rustic old-world charm with 21st century comforts. Five minutes walk to Fitzmaurice St. with quite a number of restaurant options vailable. Super quiet for a great night’s sleep. Would we go back. You bet we would!

Loved this hotel in an old mansion, previously home to the founder of Wagga’s first newspaper, then a veteran of many uses and lives.
We stayed in the Belmore suite, downstairs at the front of the house.
The renovation has given the room a small kitchen, heaps of balcony space, a bay window and a cleverly designed bathroom in two parts.
There were so many generous touches- a light breakfast waiting for us, T 2 teabags, Nespresso machine, great bathroom products, kimonos on the king sized bed. We wished we could settle in for longer.
The hotel is in a great part of town in a tree-lined street of older houses and near the centre.
The cafe a few doors up Trail street had great coffee.
It was very quiet the night we were there and the suite felt private and secluded.
Hope to be back!

I always have a fabulously refreshing stay in one of the boutique suites at The Houston in Wagga. It is like a little oasis in the SW NSW countryside.
Of particular note is the quality of the bedding. These are incredibly soft and comfortable. Like sleeping in a cloud. After a long day on the road it is just what a weary traveller needs.
The Houston’s host, Mark, is always accommodating and responsive to anything required.
The Houston is pet-friendly and it is rare to find such boutique accommodation when travelling with animals (let alone in a country town like Wagga).
I make this stop at The Houston part of my regular road trips north-south between my working life in Melbourne and family in Newcastle.
Hopefully The Houston doesn’t get too popular so that I can still get in when I am travelling through ;)
Keep up the great hospitality.
