Stayed one night here and a really cute hotel, architecturally interesting conversion keeping a lot of the old features. Bedroom included what appeared to be an old bar or counter. Not your standard bland room. Interesting location in a really great student vibe.

Hi Evelyn H Thank you for the kind words, great to hear that you enjoyed your time with us. It sounds like you stayed in our Showroom Suite that features an original bar from the days when the building served as the administration building for first Tooth's and then Carlton United Breweries, nice choice of a room. Hope we'll see you back soon and let us know if we can be of any help. My best, Timo Bures General Manager

I stayed here recently for two weeks for work, so got to know Clare pretty well – it’s a unique, well-designed space and pleasant boutique hotel– but it could be even better. Pros: Location. If you know Sydney, and don’t want a water view, the location is ACE. Close to Central, so you can travel anywhere in Sydney and surrounds quickly and easily. Also next to Spice Alley (yum cha!) and Central Park for the usual food/ shopping, and if you don’t visit Din Tai Fung while there, you hate happiness. Décor. Industrial meets mid century. Interiors, architecture and décor are lovely – not a bland item in site! Love how the history of the site is woven into the hotel’s story. So many instagrams of the hotel out there, and with good reason. Rooms. My room had a cloud-like bed,

Hello friggen_awesome, Thank you for the review, it's great and truly helpful to get such detailed, thorough and balanced feedback. While I am very pleased to hear that you found so many things about Old Clare worthy of praise please be assured that I not only hear your improvement suggestions loud and clearly, but in fact both points raised were already under review and have been addressed. While have placed strong restrictions on the number of private events on the Rooftop Pool & Bar to ensure that all our guests are able to enjoy the space. My apologies for the delay in room service, we are investigating opportunities to direct calls in a differently and I am confident we will be able to solve this. I hope we can welcome you back to The Old Clare for a stay and night time swim soon and I would be delighted to meet you and discuss your thoughts on the hotel further. Please feel free to contact me at any time. Kind regards, Timo Bures General Manager

Attended here one Saturday Afternoon, for a couple of drinks with the wife. I must say the Boutique beer from a brewery in Marrickville was one of the best I have ever tasted. We only stayed for a short while, but I did notice that the bar staff were not overly friendly. The vibe is pretty chilled, and the Pub has been transformed nicely into a modern venue but retaining the Old world charm, of it's former days as the main pub to the Toothe Brewery workers.

This is the kind of hipster elitist place where you're not welcome if you don't have a sleeve of tattoos or a quirky moustache. The staff took ages to serve us, and when they did made fun of the way I pronounced something (and not in a light, funny way). OK then, I won't spend $12 on your below average wine. Looking at reviews on FB I believe they should look into the people they employ on the ground floor bar, as they're really damaging the reputation of the entire hotel.

Hello Kelly H Allow me to begin, as someone who does neither sport a tattoo sleeve nor a quirky moustache myself, by assuring you that we aim to offer a fun night to everyone visiting. It appears though that we dropped the ball on this occasion and I would like to express my apologies. I would like to look into this further and would be grateful if you could contact me at the hotel to discuss, it will allow me to address this matter more appropriately and I am certain I will be able to address your concerns more adequately. I am looking forward to talking to you soon. Kind Regards, Timo Bures

An old pub thats transformed into a boutique hotel using some of the original foundations gives it a nice industrial style look. Friendly staff, attentive and helpful. The pool is located on level 4 with an alternative view to the Sydney city. Great restaurants downstairs too and only a few steps away from spice alley.
